10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Rattlebricks replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I dont like a female knights either but I can easily replace it with some beardy or mustache's male head. I did that for my 3 in 1 castle, I filled the set with 20 male Black falcon minifigs. In fact I'm going to replace the queen with a king's head. Overall I think its a great set with lots of cool miniifigs and other unique parts and it has been way too long since we get a proper big castle.- 2,976 replies

Thanks for the pic. The deer face on the original has more curve than the new one, and the new version has more pointy ear.
-
Yea, I saw the review video last night by accident, its printed. The red collar is on both sides and there's a shade of crease of the fabric at the back, just like the Black falcon update, a nice little touch. This makes me having somewhat an even higher expectation for the Lion castle :D
-
Based on pic, the old ones seems to be in darker colour. The new torso is double sided printed.
-
Ah, thx for the info, so only the torso & shield are unique parts. Glad that at least the torso has been upgraded :)

Are both minifigs heads unique or its on some other sets?

How is this not a thing? [Castle Battle Pack]
Rattlebricks replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yep. As I mentioned in other threads, there's the likes of Zelda, Warcraft, Diablo . HP, GOT, LOTR, and countless others that are revolves around Castle/King/Armies, hell even Disney Frozen and Maleficent has Castle/Kingdom atmosphere all over it. There's certainly more of that in today's pop culture compare to 80s and 90s. The reason why it doesnt sell its because Lego doesnt makes it anymore in first place (until recent Ideas and Creator). Ninja theme from the late 90s wasnt popular, yet Lego was able to revived Ninja's them with Ninjago cause they're willing to commit and went all out for it. Lego brand is more than big enough to creates trend rather than following trend. However, the Castle/kingdom themed minifigs on every CMF series proof they're still not ignoring the theme completely, and the Creator and Ideas sets gives us more hope. Now we'll also get another big Castle plus reimangined Forestman hideout. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Rattlebricks replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I dont remember any of the bullet helms cracking from the one I bought myself back in early 90s till 98, but I do have a few that has crack from the one I got from bricklink. However, I do experience alot of the bullet helmet clutching the minifig's head, but its not only the case with the bullet helmet but also the peasant type of hood headgear. I remember having trouble removing the hood of the bang haired dark forest minifig. I actually needs to put tack-it on the neck to help me removing it lol- 2,976 replies

How is this not a thing? [Castle Battle Pack]
Rattlebricks replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yes, I dont see a battle-pack becoming a pegwarmers, First of all, even if they do come up with it, I dont think they'll produce it in overwhelming quantities like they produce a small SW or City sets. Secondly, TLG must have been aware of diehard Castle fans especially the MOC'ers and the army builders who'd be more than willing to snatch the entire shelf of the battle-pack. -
I think the last time we got the green Forestman hat I believe was the Hoodlum minifig from Nexo, and before that was the Lederhosen guy from minifig series...recently we get blue from Troubadour but even those are sparsely in between , seperated by many years. I'd love them to includes an extra forestman deer shield.

Perhaps they assume majority of castle buyers would be a 30-50 year old that could and willing to spend 3 digits whenever they put out a new castle set. -

Agree, but soon you'd see some posts that pointing TLG sales stats that claimed Castle unpopular among 5 year old today. -
So any proper release date yet?
-
Awesome. Already have 2 of the old version but I definetely will get this one. Hopefully new torso and extra shields would be great aswell.

Thanks for the review. I actually think it looks great overall. In my opinion, I doesnt needs to looks exactly like the real thing, afterall the brick-ish shape is what makes Lego unique. Otherwise, go for diecast model :D , I also like the organic look of the rear tail lights. I finally decided to pick this one and I only have two speed champions sets previously which are the Scuderia and Mustang from 4-5 years ago. Now I feels that I need to get some more of the speed champions sets :D

Tolkien stuff remains popular in pop culture, GOT is another example. Castle , King, Medieval still sells. Zelda also revolves around Castle, King, knights, sword, bow/arrow etc, the latest game sold over 20 million copies , and Zelda is influenced by Robin Hood and Arthurian legends. Warcraft, Skyrim & Diablo are another examples.
-
Exactly

The reason why we dont get full fledge castle theme is because TLG prefers an easy path that is lisenced, plus their designer department isnt a fan of Castle theme. Speaking of theme popularity among kids , a brand as big as Lego should and could become trend setter instead of following trend all the time.
-
I agree. The lack of minifigs quantity , variants and unique parts in those sets are a disappointment. They cant even come up with new barding... Castle theme seems like an uninteresting side job for TLG.

Review: 6090 Royal Knight's Castle
Rattlebricks replied to metalandi's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Bump from the abyss Out of many castles I own, this one still my fav. Lots of details. Traps, prison, watchtower, unique baseplate, just a great overall design.
