Ageed. White shoulder pads work very well. I've used one also for one of my officers since I got the Egyptian Temple from the Adventurers line and I'm quite pleased with this new look. It contrasts with the yellow of the face whereas it was not the case with the yellow pads.

Same. I pefer the Imperial Guards/Red Coats. The guards look like British soldiers and can therefore easily be turned into redcoats. However, like you Sir Norman Ray, I have more soldiers minifigs than I have guards (I only have 5 of them along with 2 officers)...
