I bought this set at Christmas, and enjoyed the build etc, and especially the stability of the trusses used to build the boom, jib etc. But Has anyone noticed that the caterpillar track links seem to be different to the ones we got back in the days of BWE (42055)? They seem slightly softer, like the ones for the Cat buldozer. they sound differerent to older tracks linkages, especially if you have them on say a, wooden table, though their weight is almost exactly the same per piece. The glossy finish is not there either. Is this due to a change in the ingredients of the plastic they are made from? Thanks Brian

It seems Arjen's reply to my question about length of the string he used etc has somehow disappeared, possibly due to the unwelcome comments made by someone. Anyway, here is his Response.: Ik gebruik gewoon de Lego app. Here is Google's translaton: I just use the Lego app. I did use larger winch drums and more wire (about 50m1). With the app you can recalibrate the wire lengths, this works just fine. I only use the small lifting block for lifting, the large one is only there for the face (and weight). I was not aware that the length of the strings could be recalibrated? If so, would you need to increase the diameter of the drums? So far, I have come across solutions which require larger drums, but use the same length strings, but still if the app only allows so much rotation of the drum (hence the need to increase the diameter of the drum), then there will still be only so much available movement of the hook up and down. Hence my question of whether another software solution had been used...

So Arjen, how did you get around the issue the Lego Tom is having about the length of the string impacting the control+ system. I assume you simply did not use it? Did you use S Brick, Buwizz, Brick Controller 2? How many extra frames did you need to purchase for this wonderful upgrade to what it should have been? Thanks

I was referring more to the fact that ( according to the reviews I have seen) there is just enough string on the. Original modem to get the hook to reach the ground, so if the (2×liebherr set) version is so much taller, can the hook still reach the ground? Either because longer string has been used, or because the number of pulleys used on the hook line has been reduced? Thanks

Wow nerdsforpres that crane looks good. I agree the other one, 2 liebherrs made into one much taller crane looks far better compared to the current model, but I cannot afford one yet, let alone two, so will just wait. I am interested to know if the problem with length of string and the app not recognising the extra length can be overcome, or not.

Thank you @JimsBridges for being, I think, the first person to post a positive post since the official photos were released a few days ago in this thread. I agree it is not quite what we were expecting or hoping for, neither would we ever likely get something so good as Dawid Szmandra designed, but we have what is before us, and we can choose to try and make it better, or else design our own version. It does seem expensive, even the recent mooted price of €559 or NZ$1000 as it currently correlates to, is steep. Yes, I agree with the lack of string ( I wish we could buy lego string in 100 metre lengths), and the hook could be actual metal like the cranes used to be ~15 years ago. Will I buy it? Not sure yet, but I have not ruled it out at the moment. Enjoy :)

Hi I am deconstructing a crane chassis I made, and am using Stud.io to record its structure (as well as Photos). I have somehow got three pieces that show up as wire frames, rather than solid pieces, unless I happen to click on them, or connect another piece to them. Once connected they revert back to wire frames. I have deleted them several times, and put them back in again, but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks Brian

Thanks for that, looks very like the real thing! :) Especially with the weight of this model, or any other large model. Also, the longer the "arm" you will be moving, the greater the forces running through the fulrcum, and hence the greater force required to run the pneumatic. Hence why hydraulics is preferred in the real world.

Hi Suffocation. I am trying to locate the bricks&pieces shop. Is it on Bricklink? Also, why is it I cannot see any of your photos, I just get these huge Brick not found jpgs instead. Makes following your posts a little difficult to see where you are coming from. I have been trying to find anyone selling the new longer Linear actuators, but so far with no look apart from lego.com itself, from whom I have ordered 2. Thanks Brian

Somewhere in this very long thread there was some questions posed about the new clutch gear. Someone wanted to know how much torque they can achieve before slipping. I ahve just ordered some from Lego, and in the description on the order confirmation, it states 7.5-20 Ncm, so considerably more than the previous white clutch gear. Enjoy :) Brian
