Great review, spot on ! I never thought about buying this set. I usually only buy UCS or OT, and I also hesitated because of the visible technical details (mostly at the rear, I really want engines and boosters look great ), the at-first-look messy color scheme and non-symmetrical centre wing. But I stumbled across the set at a reasonable price so I picked it up (it IS Star Wars after all ). And it was a pleasant surprise indeed! I can really recommend this set, but maybe not cause of the usual things like movie-accurate design, exciting parts or great minifigs (although they are great!), and I’ll try to explain this below. Rufus excellent review pretty much cover everything you need to know about this set, but here are some additional thoughts of mine: It was a really fun build because it was quite differentiated for such a small set, never boring. And even if I have built a lot of models I found some new things that surprised me. When building I thought; “how will this hold together, it seems wobbly and fragile in places”. The final result is one of the sturdiest sets! The color scheme and visible technical details would usually bother me a bit, but for some reason they inspired me on this set! The final shuttle is such a fantastic space shuttle and I will really enjoy some MOC-ing on this one! Usually I don’t mess with the official sets, but since this is out of my usual buying line (UCS and OT) I will do it with pleasure. For example, try to fix the technical things on the back, a new interior (there’s plenty of room if you remove the bad working helmet put-on device) and some details with the color scheme. Minor MOC-ing that keep the ship intact and only enhances the overall feeling. When finished building, my first thought was that LEGO did the absolutely right thing doing a set of this ship even though it’s on screen only 3 seconds or so in Ep III. Just because it’s a fantastic space ship and even if it's not the most movie-accurate set the translation into the LEGO medium is stunning. Star Wars apart, this is great vehicle indeed!

That TIE fighter looks great! To me it seems like the cockpit isn't attached properly in the photos (you can see it clearly in the photo with the big white Amidala), and that might be why it looks so odd. Can't wait to see more pics of that one. The new figs looks like must-haves as well. And thanks for the notice simonjedi! The character encyclopedia looks very interesting. If they cover every minifig on a whole page like in the preview it's very promising!

This is truly a fantastic set and I'm really impressed by you all who actually tries to get it piece by piece... I wish you the best of luck!!! I'm one of the lucky ones who's got the set... Still not built, the monstrous and heavy box is lying under my bed. As soon as (had it for over three years now...)I can figure out where to display it I will build it with great joy

Very nice review and great photos! Even with some minor flaws this is definitely a must-have addition in any Star Wars LEGO-collection. A very iconic vehicle and some very nice (although not unique) minifigs. This set gives me a bit of a retro feeling of LEGO's early Star Wars sets yet it have the accuracy and edge of the newer ones. Highly recommended set.

[REVIEW] 7962 Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba's Podracers
Ackbar replied to parchioso's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for the review! This set looks great. I still have it unpacked, but looking forward to put it together soon! And I agree with CaptainCRO that this seems to be the best set in the new wave (along side with the two new ewoks - great minifigs). -
A spectacular MOC! Congratulations! Really amazing smooth look with great detail. I really like the green plants and leafs, placed with great accuracy and an eye for detail. And all those figs... Only wish that Luke didn't start ahead, wearing his medal when walking towards Leia before he actually gets it. But hey, such torso doesn't exists...

Think I'm drifting towards becoming an AFOL...
Ackbar replied to MiniJunkie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
OK, here's my story: I've always been a huge fan of Star Wars growing up with the first films. And sure, I build some LEGO as a kid in the beginning of the 80's but it was not my main thing. But then LEGO was totally absent in my life until about 2004 when my oldest daughter got a huge amount of LEGO from my young cousin who didn't want to play with it any more. Inspired and with a kids playful mind, me and my daughter enthusiastically dug into the bags of LEGO and the first thing I found was... ...Darth Vader! And then Boba Fett! C3PO! Those minifigs where amazing and so cute, very movie-accurate yet still typical LEGO - what a wonderful combination! Then I found something that must be a wing to a Tie-fighter... The bags where full of Star Wars LEGO! And then I, and to my delight my daughter as well, were hooked! So I started to collect the minifigs and sets, mostly USC's, since then. Sometimes I build them myself and sometimes with my kids (my kids is more in to Harry Potter now - but that's fine with me!). And now I realize the value of the gift my cousin gave to me. -
Tatooine... Well, that's a lot of tan bricks...

Stunning!!! A very unique designed MOC. Very well done.

Think I'm drifting towards becoming an AFOL...
Ackbar replied to MiniJunkie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Can't help reading this topic's development with a big smile on my face... I get this "you're not alone" feeling. So I guess I have to join the confession: Also a happily married dad. Aged 37. Picked up LEGO building about 5 or 6 years ago. Collect minifigs and the USC sets. I really agree with def. A dad could be a lot worse than building and collecting LEGO. I can't put my models everywhere in the house, but my hobby is well accepted by the family and I do spend a lot of time building with my kids. MiniJunkie! Good luck with Slave I, it's a nice set with some really cool minifigs. -

Ackbar replied to MiniJunkie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hello MiniJunkie and welcome to the forum! As an old fan of Star Wars I suddenly found myself looking more and more on those Star Wars Lego sets, especially the USC series and the minifigs. And some years later my collection keeps growing, I have a lot of models and minifigs for display and enjoy building the sets (especially the USC's) very much. I probably can call myself an AFOL by now... You just have to buy that first set, then you're hooked And it's great to build together with the kids as well. Over to the questions: -If you buy LEGO only to sell later and make some money, then keep them unsealed in the box. If you're a fan of the models and LEGO and enjoy the build - then build them! But it might be a good idea to keep the box, instruction booklets and so on. Always good to have a complete model. -At first, I didn't do any MOC's at all. Then, as my collection grew, I started to modify some ships (for example the 6202 - those details are not supposed to be blue... I wanted them gray...). I also noticed that my spare part collection grew, so I did some MOC's. But the primarily build is still the official sets. But I guess there will be more MOC-ing in the future. Some people do crossword puzzles, others build LEGO... I use to say that LEGO building is as good training (and much more fun) to your brain as crossword puzzles or sudoku. Then most skepticism use to turn into a smile -
I have mixed feelings about this one. One one hand I really like those big and heavy UCS models, I collect most of them and enjoy building them. But there's something about this set that makes me hesitate. First, where the hell shall I put it (I still have my USC Falcon and Jawa sandcrawler stuck under my bed)? I really want to put these sets on display, but they're so big it's not possible to display them all. Second, the model looks stunning but I the overall impression of the set is still quite bland. The greeble on the top is good, but a bit uninspired. And why minifigs? They feel out of place since the model is not in scale (which of course would be impossible with this one). If LEGO really wanted to include minifigs (to increase the price I guess), where's Zuckuss and 4-Lom? Two long-awaited figs! And the engines, orange??? Also feels a bit bland. I remembering seeing a MOC of this ship with red engines. Gives a lot more edge two the whole ship (this could easily be fixed though) and it's more movie-accurate. So, the overall impression is a bit uninspired. Ah well, it's still a beast and a worthy USC member but not among the best. If it goes on sale in the future, then maybe...

Great review! You covered just about everything! I will not buy this set though. I think this new version is very movie-accurate, but there's something that makes me hesitate about this. Maybe it's all those snots covering the nose, giving the whole thing a ruff look. The older 7663 is much sleeker and I like that design better, so I'll stick with that one. The new green color on Qui-Gon's lightsaber is really nice though.

What a powerful MOC! Must weigh tons... Great job, what a assembly of brown pieces The greeble on the back and top are exquisite!
-
Great review! Thanks!!! I have mixed feeling about this set though. Doesn't really like the design of the Falcon. Great minifigs and interior though. I might buy this for the minifigs, but no... the price and stickers scares me away

Very welcome!

Thank you all for the welcome!

Thank you! Well, Admiral was taken but 'Ackbar' is shorter and strikingly powerful, right?

Hi! I've been lurking around this forum some time and thought it was about time to register so I can comment on all great topics here. I was also inspired by the STAR WARS Character Ride contest to do a MOC but I registered too late to participate... Anyway, here's my non-valid contribution and photostream on flickr. Primarily interested in Star Wars, both official sets and MOC's but I also enjoy a great city build, especially trains. Will drop some comments in the forum now and then and eventually present some MOC´s. Have a nice day!

Thank you, much appreciated! I'll try to be faster next time...

After getting Admiral Ackbar with Home One the most wanted must be... ...Zuckuss! My most wanted list: 1. Zuckuss 2. Squid Head (could be a really cool minifig) 3. Boushh 4. Garindan (the long nosed spy from Mos Eisly)

The curves, the lines... What a beauty! Great work!
