  1. This set is adorable. All the aspects of Christmas rolled into a bundle of rosy cheeks, snow and presents. I just love it! Such a brilliant set, I'm glad to see TLG is getting an clue and making more 12+ sets for the AFOLs out there.
  2. This is an amazing MOC, so tidy and so detailed. You can tell a real Alice fan made it, not one little thing is missing. The rabbit is so awesome!
  3. Looks good Walrus and Keeper! Glad to see you got to keep all of the hand. Haha! I want to buy some more too... and have a closer look at the fireman one. It might be salvageable.
  4. I think they are making it in two movies because because by the time they finally film the last one all the actors will look old enough to have kids of their own in the epilogue scene at the train station.
  5. Have you ever thought that some idiot form the future went back and made sure all the Dinosaurs were dead! It's pretty funny isn't it, how every other kind of creature on the planet survived but not them? Maybe time-machines in the future are not a easy to get your hands on item, like not everyone owns their own Jet but they exist and it makes travel really easy, but we can't all jump into one whenever we want and go wherever we want. Maybe the futuristic time-machine cost more than your average Round-The-World plane ticket making it near impossible for unexplained flash-mobs to crowd up significant events in time. But meh! what do I know.
  6. In my Knight Bus I got and extra Stan Head and torso but no hat or legs.

    Hello

Welcome Stella! We are always happy to see new members! (Especially FFOL's)
  8. I have recently noticed a few errors in Instruction booklets and thought it would be interesting see if anyone else has noticed anything like this.... Sirius Black! Tisk Tisk... I thought you were only Harry's godfather. Hagrid's hands are brown, when they are meant to be fleshy.
  9. It would seem that we need a Member's Log in Name archive also, for Svelte alone.
  10. I have done even more now, Quidditch Supplies Hagrid's Hut Knight Bus Dobby's Release but they haven't been linked on the Review Index page yet , and I have three more (Shrieking Shack, Knockturn Alley, Winged Keys) HP reviews in the works, but there are still sooooo many untouched. C'mon people! Surely someone out there has a couple of sets they can review.
  11. What a brilliant review, this is one of the HP sets I don't have (yet?) I know of somewhere it is available for AU$59.99... do you think with all the HP inflation over the years that is too much? Christmas is coming. Hehe!
  12. Well my PM box is still empty! Here I was, expecting all the scurvy sea dogs out there would be begging me for one! Hehe! I guess all the silver sparkle talk turned them off. Hehe! Dang it!
  13. Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed this tute/review. Hooray for the front page, I am a little embarrassed.
  14. Name: Hagrid's Hut (2nd Edition) Set Number: 4754 Theme: Harry Potter Sub Theme: The Prisoner of Azkaban Year: 2004 Pieces: 302 Minifigures: 2 Recommended Age: 7 - 12 Price: GBP 19.99 US$30 AU$59.99 Resources: Brickset Peeron Photobucket Introduction: Hagrid's Hut With the Help of Humongous Hairy Hagrid, Handsome Harry and Hardworking Hermione Helped the Hirsute Hippogriff Hide, so a Horrid Hag would not Hurt Him. However, this set does not Have Handsome Harry or a Hirsute Hippogriff, so Hardworking Hermione and Hairy Hagrid will Have to do. The Box: The cover art of the box shows off some of the features (fireplace) and accessories (tools) in the set. The back of the box shows the usual things for a Harry Potter set; how it fits in with other sets from the HP Theme, detailed pictures of moving parts and an alternative build. Alternative Build: I've included a close-up shot of TLG's alternate build from in the back of the instruction booklet, it is also shown on the back of the box. There is only one as this is a larger set, where as most of the smaller HP sets have two alternative builds. The Instruction Booklet: I have included a few extra pages of the instructions as there are three different stages of the build. Firstly we have the cover of the booklet, which as usual is the same as the box cover. Page 22 shows the instructions for the cupboard, a spider swings out when opened. It uses 25 pieces (including the spider, axe and crossbow) and is made in 9 steps. This picture is of the instructions for the four roof sections, using wings that are most commonly used on space crafts. The last part of the build starts on page 37, when we build the back of the fireplace and chimney, it is made up of 32 pieces and 11 steps. This next picture is from the first page of the booklet, showing us what the minifigs are meant to look like, notice how Hagrid's hands are brown like in the '01 and '02 sets . A small error missed in the editing stage I gather. The Parts: All 302 pieces together, a nice mix of colours and styles for making MOCs. Pieces of Interest: There are quite a few pieces I find especially interesting in this set, I will show you only a few of the better ones. Firstly, we have my favourite; the Fabuland Cauldron. I can just see Ron puking some slimy slugs into this with a slightly green tinge about his face. There is a Chrome-Brass key, then we have an exclusive MdStone coloured 'stone patterned' corner wall piece, and a brown book. This set is overflowing with great accessories, other pieces of interest include a the sand-green slopes, a yellow dinner plate and yellow ladle, a rat, a bat, a spider, a goblet, a couple of mugs, a shovel, a pick, a crossbow, an axe, two pumpkins, etc etc etc, far too many to mention in detail. The Minifigures: This minifigure of Hagrid is slightly larger than a regular minifig - his legs, hands and torso are unmovable, and his arms are slightly longer. He also has a rather large hair piece that nearly covers his entire face. The fleshy Hermione minifigure has the usual Grey Gryffindor uniform, but on this occasion she is wearing the Time-Turner, this torso was also used in the 2004 version of Hogwarts Castle. She has a very pretty face and her hair is great to use for any small girl. Here are the minifigures with all accessories (cape, wand and key) included. Here is a picture of Hagrid from the movies, and the minifigure for comparison. The massive expanse of hair Hagrid has been captured spectacularly with the massive hair piece and the clothes are almost identical. I think it is a job well done. Here is a comparison shot of Hermione, the hair is perfect and I think TLG have done a nice job capturing her face in the simple Lego way. The Build: This first picture of the build, we have all of the base is in place, it looks a little messy but it will get there. Notice the 1x2 yellow piece, I'm not too sure why they needed to add another colour here, it is eventually hidden anyway. The walls are starting to go up, in other sets this amount of colours can be pretty un-aesthetically pleasing but being Hagrid's hut, I think it suits perfectly. All the walls are up by this stage we have filled the hut with all the wonderful accessories you get in this set. The roof starting to go on, which will be followed by the Sand-green slopes. There are 11 steps to build the fireplace, then you click it onto the side of the hut using the hinge pieces, they are extremely tough to click together and I actually put my fingers through the roof once or twice whilst trying to attach it. Special Features: Hagrid will show you the special moving part features of this set, here he is showing you how there is a secret compartment in the back of the fireplace, for those long cold nights when all you want to do is read an nice warm book?!? Now he is showing you the cupboard, just don't let Ron open this one. He might not like what is waiting to swing out. The Finished Product: The set is complete! The front view is quite pleasing, with a mix of colours, bricks, stone and the (rather small) pumpkin patch. I can't see how a Hippogriff could fit in that pumpkin patch, but I realise that if the base plates were sticking out any further than they already are it might look silly. The back view shows the sets other door, I am so glad TLG included another door as there was one in the movie and the books. The left side gives you a better view of the pumpkin patch and the brown lattice window. I love the look of this hut from every angle. There is a great space under this window for you to extend the pumpkin patch if you so desire. On the right side of the hut you have the fireplace and chimney. I would have loved to have another 'stone printed' corner to make this angle look symmetrical, but then I would want another and another. I can only guess at what the designers of this set were thinking, but I'm sure they tried every possible combination and settled on the best one for all of us. The last shot is of the completed set from the top. The roof does not close 100%, so there are a few small gaps. This is the complete set from the front when fully opened out. I love how when shown from this angle, the roof lines up and makes it look as though there are two huts next to each other. I think if you added a lovely rose garden this set could be transformed into a cute little English cottage. The set from the back when opened out, this shot shows you how the patchwork feel of this hut, it looks as though Hagrid knocked it together himself. The Complete Set including Minifigures: The Final Verdict: Design: 9/10 The patchwork of colours and mediums make this hut so perfect for Hagrid, the opening features and slanted roof are brilliant pieces of design. Build: 9/10 With 302 pieces, and several sections to the instructions this set is quite good to build, not too simple (like some of the earlier HP sets), but definitely not hard. Playability: 9/10 The hut opens out like a dollhouse and has plenty of accessories, making it such an easy and fun set to pay with. Minifigures: 9/10 I think that TLG have done a brilliant job with Hagrid, as shown in the comparison shots earlier he is just like the movie Hagrid, he looks big and fat and bushy. I love the Hermione minifigure, her pretty face her thick hair and the time-turner is brilliant. Price: 7/10 With so many great pieces and some rare ones too, the price of this set is rather on the high side. But it is such a great little set and a definite must for all Harry Potter Lego fans. I am only sad I didn't get my hands on one earlier. Overall: 9/10 With some great-castle type pieces, and many little accessories this set should please anyone, its overall design is great for displaying or you could use any of the 302 pieces for MOCs. I am happy that TLG decide to release a second edition of Hagrid's Hut, it has become a firm favourite of all the sets I own. I am very happy with this set but if I have to make one serious complaint, it would be that Hagrid the lover of all creatures would have his hut filled with animals of all kinds, although there is a rat, bat and spider, where is Fang? (Hagrid's trusty and somewhat massive dog) I think that this would do nicely for Fang, TLG always cross over things from Belville and Fabuland, so why not this time?
  15. Yes, I wear the hood down, well definitely when I am out, sometimes I wear it up at home where it doesn't really matter if its upside down or not. Haha! Yeah, this is probably the first time I've posted in the Pirates forum since joining, haha. Pirates were what got me back into Lego but I moved on to HP a little too quickly for my user name's sake.

    hello

Welcome Chiara, It's great to see another FFOL around these parts. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, everyone in here is very helpful. Cheers, IZ
  17. Name: Lego Pirates Tee Theme: LEGO Apparel and Accessories Item: T-Shirt Year: 2009 Pieces: 1 Minifigs: 0 Bonuses: Red Ninja Sticker Price: AU$19.00 20% off $15.20 Boys Sizes: 3 - 8 Resources: Kmart Catalouge, Page 3 Introduction: I (and a few others) am a strong believer in Reviewing every Lego product I have whether it be a Cookie Cutter, a Toolbox or a Regular Set. There is no exception to the rule and when Svelte pointed out the new kids t-shirts at Kmart, I just knew I had to have one. There is no way I am one of those girls that might fit into boys size 8 (creepy little hobbits) so I am going to make it fit me. It is easily done, I might even show you how. Packaging: I've included a close up shot of the tag just to prove that this is indeed a Lego product and not some Kmart rip off. The tag included the Lego Logo a minifigure head with reflective shades and the size, 8. (The reasoning behind choosing and 8 rather than 3, 5, etc is because it is the largest size and therefore the largest picture of the Pirate. Mind you, there is only a few centimeters between sizes, but it is enough of a difference. Kmart's Outwear/Outgrow Policy reads as a challenge, but does cutting the t-shirt up count? The price tag shows the regular and after sale price will be $19. Rush out at get yours while the sale is still on. The 'design works' tag doubles a sticker. Anyone fancy a red ninja head to stick on your... book? fridge? car? ... Instructions: These are fairly self explanatory. Front: I am kind of glad this t-shirt doesn't fit because the LEGO logo, Pirates logo and the Lego Pirate is kind of overkill. It makes me want to say in the voice of Lina Lamont "What do they think I am? Dumb or something?" They could should have put the Lego and Pirate logos on the back. But then I remind myself I am not the uneducated mother of a demanding five year old boy, that will buy the product just because the Logo's are splashed all over it. Back: Plain, plain, plain, well apart from the Red and White stripes and all. Detail: A close up shot of the pirate shows us that what you may have thought was white pants are actually a reflective silver. I'm not too sure how many boys over the age of five wouldn't be saying "But Mummy! It's all sparkly like a girrrrrls t-shirt! " The Pirates logo, is it just me or does that font make it look like its spelled wrong? A skull, that has avoided being stepped on. Maybe it is all the way up there because the Pirate has already kicked it? The Pirates cutlass is also shiny shiny. Not too sure if you can tell but some of the silver is creeping over onto the rest of the t-shirt, and adding to the girly sparkle. Ratings: Design: 8/10 I think they could have spread out the logos or moved at least one of them to the back and the second skull really isn't necessary, but the actual Pirate is such a handsome fellow and his pose is so... gallant. I love the Red & White stripes, they just scream dress-up pirate, that was a very clever idea from the designers I think. Price: 7/10 Just because it is a Brand name doesn't mean they have to charge $19 for a kids t-shirt, kids grow so fast the hardly get to wear the same outfit twice and they are too big for it. I wouldn't have paid this much for Amelie to have it if she is only going to get a couple of months wear, but at least I'll get a few good years out of it now. MOCability: 10/10 The prints are set out far enough apart to salvage all of them, I hope some of you can get your hands on one of these babies and use in an manner becoming to your tastes. Alternative: Firstly start by getting yourself a t-shirt, jumper or jacket (in your size) that has sufficient space for the Pirate to fit on. I looked around for a Red & White striped anything but settled on a Bright Red Pullover Hoodie. It cost me exactly $20 and was also purchased at Kmart. Get yourself a pair of sharp sewing scissors... ...and start by cutting along the seam. When you get close to the hand, STOP!!! The way the shirt is made, has the edge of the hand sewn into the seam cutting it off a little. If you want to keep all of that hand, at this point you need to get out a thread unpicker from your trusty toolbox. Start by pulling the material gently but firmly apart and cut the threads one at a time. When you are done, you can see how much of the hand you would have removed if you kept cutting. Continue with the scissors, leaving a small border of t-shirt material to sew on (leaving the actual print untouched) "Hey Kmart! This t-shirt is worn out and I haven't... I meant my kid hasn't even put it on yet! Are you going to replace it or what?" You can also cut out the logos, waste not want not and all that! Now lay out the picture where you want it to be, and pin it into place. The skull overlapped into the pocket and it looked silly, so I cut it off. Now for the hard part, sewing around edge of the print, I used a very close stitch and a red thread. And this is what the finished product looks like. Oh, oops, looks like something was spilled on the photo. I didn't end up sewing the Pirate logo on as it looks just swell without it. Now I can use it on a bag or something. I love the deliberateness of the excess Red & White material, I hope it frays a little and looks all raggedy and piratey. And on the back of the hood is Ta Dah! The LEGO logo. Overall this cost me AU $35.20, and took about 1 + 1/2 hours to make, I might be persuaded to do it again for a price. The End!
  18. This is a really great review! It is set out beautifully. I've been keeping an eye on some of the newer Technic sets for a certain someones birthday and this has just shot way up the list. Thanks for the Review. Brilliant!
  19. Welcome! Welcome dark and mysterious Keeper of the Walrus, I am so glad you have joined and become part of the fun here! We have heard much about you over the years and we all know what a patient and lenient partner you must have to be. Hehe! I'm sure you already know of and about plenty of people on here so have fun! See you round about, Izzy
  20. Oh my gosh! A woman after my own heart! I'm doing that too on a more, er, womanly sized shirt (I'll post pics if you do! ) PS: Thanks for the info Svelte. One the first day of the Kmart sale the lady at the door was wearing a yellow t-shirt with the LEGO logo in the front (the ones that LEGO store workers wear). I begged her for it but she said it was last years sale shirt and it was the only one left. Boo hooo hoo. She looked my size too.
  21. Police Headquarters is available at my local Mr Toys. Why is it that Belville is never available at Kmart, Target or BigW? I've only seen it at Mr Toys or Myers. That is the funniest thing I've read in ages... Bahaha! I'm going to try that one one Toodles. *Starts mumbling angrily*

    Hi

If you are insinuating that I was trying to say they are the same person, you couldn't be more wrong! I was just pointing out that there were similarities (that still stand) Between our new member Crystal here, and our older and much respected one Peppermint M. I thought it was a good thing. It is hard enough to find friends in this world, let alone someone who accepts a "Lego loving adult". So with a few extra things in common I was just commenting on how cool it is. I would love nothing more to have a girl my age, that lives near me show up on EB.
