  1. To Jurgen and Mrs De Vos, I had the great pleasure of getting to know Dieter a little here Eurobricks and we also sometimes spoke on MSN. I found him to be such a lovely, friendly and funny guy. He always made time to say Hello and ask after my daughter, and would always bring a smile to my face. My personal thoughts and sympathies go out to you at this time, Dieter made a really great and positive effect on mine and so many of our lives, all around the globe. He will be greatly missed. Izzy (Australia)
  2. @ CorneliusMurdock's Entry It would be so awesome if one of the minor injuries that this poor little fellow got was a lightning shaped scar on his forehead.
  3. I just did a rough count and got over 100, not by much, maybe 10 or something. I hadn't thought to count it at all. Just built in a frenzy. I will see what I can do.
  4. I am a sucker for a blonde man, . I wanted him to have that surfy/backpacker/tanned/sunbleached hair/well worn/always in the sun look, and that hair works perfectly for that. Dontcha think?
  5. Thanks cralegboy. Good luck to you too!
  6. Thank you for your comments Geertos, I think that the graveyard is meant to fairly simple. I can't think of what else a couple of rows of marble tombstones could have. As for the wreath, yes it was used as a wreath in The Winter Toy Shop set but also in the book Hermione magics up a wreath so I thought it would be perfect. I am very glad that our dear Hinck changes the baseplate rules as I commented at the time, I needed more space for my large scene. Until LEGO creates a larger baseplate in white, I will make do with a few smaller ones. I could have used up all my piece count trying to cover that up, but I chose to use my piece count for little details here and there instead. Hopefully it will not detract too much as it is not something I can really do too much about with only 1000 pieces. Thanks! I really liked he idea of using a 1x1 for footprints as the LEGO fig has square feet like that. Too cute! Thank You KDM! I love getting such detailed comments like yours. Different things stand out to different people and I am always interested to know. Thanks again! Thanks hoiharry, any thoughts on how you might make it more interesting? Thank You for your comments TheBrickster, I must say a big Thank You to my very kind and lovely boyfriend for supplying me with some extra White Bases and many more small pieces (as my collection is not what I would like it to be). I also made my first ever PaB order. Very fun. Awww poor Pretzel, please don't make this scene as well, you are such a great builder and would surely put me to shame. Again to Thank my boyfriend for supplying these foliage pieces, I really want some more, they are awesome. Thanks a bunch! I have been working on this since the day the contest was announced. Lots of research!
  7. Godric's Hollow Church, Graveyard and Square. Please check out my Flickr for more photos. "All this snow!" Hermione whispered, "Why didn't we think of the snow? After all our precautions, we'll leave prints!"The little lane along which they were walking curved to the left and the heart of the village, a small square, was revealed to them. Strung all around with coloured lights, there was what looked like a War memorial in the middle... There were several shops... and a little church whose stained glass windows were glowing jewel-bright across the square." At the entrance to the graveyard there is a kissing gate, beyond is white marble tombstones covered in snow. Behind the church row upon row of snowy tombstones protruded from a blanket of pale blue that was flecked with dazzling red, gold and green wherever the reflections from the stained glass hit the snow. Harry and Hermione enter Godric's Hollow Graveyard and find where Harry's parents are buried. The tombstone reads "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.Hermione raised her wand, moved it in a circle through the air and a wreath of Christmas roses blossomed before them. Harry caught it and laid it on his parents' grave." This statue is a functional play piece for this scene, using a turn table piece. It can be turned as the wizards walk past to 'transform' from the War Memorial into the Potter Family Memorial. "Half way across the square Hermione stopped dead. "Harry, look!" She was pointing at the War memorial. As they passed it, it had transformed. Instead of an obelisk covered in names, there was a statue of three people: a man with untidy hair and glasses, a woman with long hair and a kind, pretty face, and a baby boy sitting in his mother's arms."
  8. Your name is Hinckley and your job is to push creativity. I read the rules and tried my darned hardest to push the boundaries and get away with that 1/3rd of a brick overhang. Naughty naughty Iz. So now I had to be all clever and figure out a way to fix that but still keep my (printed )wood tiles!
  9. Cyril Craven Apparition Instructor Apparition: is a magical method of transportation, and is basically magical teleportation, having the user focus on a desired location in his mind, then disappear from his current location and instantly reappear at his desired location. It is by far the fastest way to get to one's desired destination, but is tricky to pull off correctly and disastrous if botched up. Cyril Salem Craven is the son of Claus and Cantara Craven. He is of German and Jamaican and Egyptian decent of his father’s side and of Russian, Syrian, Arabic and English on his mothers. His parents are Wizards, his Father was a Beater on the German National Quidditch Team and his mother was working for the Department of International Magical Cooperation, Köln Branch, when they met. Cyril grew up all over Europe (traveling because of his parents respective jobs) so he attended a Term here and a Term there at many different schools, including the famous schools of Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons and The Durmstrang Institute. After finishing school he worked at the Ministry of Magic as an Apparition Instructor. This was a subject he excelled at, as soon as he was old enough to try. Most likely from accompanying one of his parents in Side-Along Apparition every time they needed to move. Cyril decided to "settle down" in one place and try to get a job in England. While staying at the Leaky Cauldron, he made friends with Hannah Longbottom (nee Abbott). She had words with her husband Neville Longbottom (the current Herbology Teacher at Hogwarts) and helped him acquire a job as the Apparition Instructor to the Sixth and Seventh Years. Funnily enough the Apparition Course he teaches only run for 12 weeks a year. Cyril uses the rest of the year to travel and if needed he is on call as an Instructor at several other Magical Academies around the globe. Cyril has been likened to a Wizard version of the Muggle actor Wentworth Miller (with hair), so on the advice of Hannah, he has tried to disguise his disgustingly good looks by growing a Goatee (so the students can concentrate in class). Everyone remembers how hard it was for Professor Lockhart before he lost his marbles. As all Apparition classes take place in the great hall, I made a Vig of Professor Craven in his small office space. It is filled with maps, photos and curios from his travels all over the world. It is a very inspiration place for his students to come and explore. It seems as though every inch of the small space he has been given is filled with something that has an interesting story behind it. Although Apparition becomes increasingly difficult with the distance to be traveled. Many of his students long to be as skilled as Cyril and his inter-continental Apparition. More pictures on Flickr
  10. I was given an appliance for Christmas and the box had the 'peek' window. It was a very nostalgic moment for me, and I did actually say out loud "This is just like the old LEGO boxes." And just got an eye roll in return. My family knows me too well. It was such a big thing for me as a kid to go and peek at all the big sets that I would never own. But on a security matter nowadays, I have noticed in my local stores that the Lego Encyclopedias with the special Figs in them, have all been ransacked and there is those LEGO City Activity Books with a Fig and a few bricks, they have also been broken into. Sad but true. To answer the question, yes I do miss them. But can understand and agree with why they are no longer in use.
  11. It should have been changed to "Redular Ladies Man" Haha for bad bad jokes.
  12. Now I am confused. The avatar competition was to bring Harry Potter into your avatar in any way. So very simple. If some people created an original Wizard for that, I was unaware. But it is another very easy task and fun to boot. Plus "no need to yell"? Really? If you are referring to my capitalization on the letters O, M and G. That is not yelling, just abbreviation.
  13. OMG CallMePie!!! Can you show us one instance where this competition says anything about Avatars? And also, no one is making anyone do anything. I'd really check how I write things if I was you. You are coming across as extremely rude and unthoughtful. Hinckley puts in a lot of effort for us all and thinks up these competitions. Please have some respect! I love the idea of this competition. Will really bring out at the HP Nerds. I have a name picked put already for my Character.
  14. Audacious aren't you CF. Cutest ditch digger on the block The story behind this title is better left untold.
  15. I got the Quidditch one. The only one I have so far. I wouldn't mind at all owning that set several times over. Dark red and green capes! and lots of Brown hands! Wuv wuv wuv!
  16. No no no. I didn't invent them. Have collected them from a few of random sites.
  17. Funny that you say that Ras, as I have been noticing people commenting on different things during this contest that I can't really see on my MAC. Especially Cloney's comment, so I always check on my iPhone as well and on my Mum's computer (Some Windows shite) when I can. And so far have not noticed a real difference. I can't see the studio line to fix it...
  18. Ridiculously good... idea, set up and photo! I shan't wish you luck as you do not need it!

  20. This is a great scene as we have all come to expect from you ACPin , but photography wise it looks too dark and not clear/sharp enough. Maybe it is my computer, but I have the brightness up full and it is still too shadowy for my liking.
  21. My entry doesn't have any Christmas connotations. I read through the rules a couple of times and decided to go with my original idea as it was optional to add a bit of Festivity. The lighting is great, and I must say Cloney, this shot looks soooo good on my iPhone ... but the bigger I see it (like in Flickr on my computer) the less impressive it looks, and for the life of me I can't figure out why.
  22. This has very nice lighting and it is a crispy shot, but for a Photography Competition, it does very little for me. Looks like you have great skills in setting up a shot, just try some more angles and see what you can come up with!
  23. IMHO, I think this is one case where the focus should cover more of the picture than just around Vader. I think it could really benefit if Luke was in focus too. The photo is taken from a really good angle but it is centered a little off for my taste, I would like to see a little more of Vader on the right and a little less blank space on the left. Also to make this a really stunning shot you could maybe try to play with the light and colour levels and try to take some of the Grey hue away? Right now I can't tell if Vader is wearing a white (like Santa) beard or if it is Light Grey beard. I'd also like to see what the Light-saber looked like before you photoshopped it. It looks a little too cartoony compared to the rest of the picture. This photo has a lot of great potential. Good and funny idea.
  24. Thanks for the comments! Yeah, I experimented with different angles of the camera and torch to get most of the hazy light on Leia (to get a bit of colour around her, for interests sake, so it wasn't all black), is it still sooooo obvious she is practically naked? That's the only outfit I have for her. Haha! Because Luke is already wearing black I wanted him to be in the shadows. It worked quite well for the steamyness effect. I wanted the photo to be dark and not-quite-right, just like the whole Luke'n'Leia thing!
