then how does he get a hold on a box ? - or am I being stupid here ? -

Great review, you know exactly what you get when you buy this now, I haven't seen any POTC lego in the stores in the Netherlands yet.. but I hope it will come soon, I want some of them! Bart

well it looks great, love your eye for detail, the ship is actually secured against the dock, the fender and so. my guess is that they are smugglers, small fast ship ;) with a rough looking crew, paying off the redcoat Bart

congratulations Admiral :) Bart

I made some progress on the stern, but I'm a bit stuck now. it looks like its missing something but I don't know what.. the two mini-figs are carrying the coat of arms of my home town, the two fish represent two pikes (that's a fish species) behind the lower windows are the officers quarters and the upper the admiral/captain and so. I also made a start with the galleries but the look too high ?? I definitely have to do something about the brown edge. that is the frame, it has to be changed (in to blue/gold) Bart

I don't really get what you mean with the sail. I used to row in a boat like this, and the rig we had there was like this, only the bottom of the sail had more clearance over the doll board yes. Also the lifeboats we had on the last ship I sailed on had a rig like this. here is a picture; Bart

yeah the bow is very blocky, but the boat is quit small. I will try a SNOT boat for the next one. building it wont be the hardest thing I think, finding the pieces .. al my bricks are in one big box. it took me hours to find all the 8 clips yesterday. (later I found 4 more ) but I made the sail today. not very fancy, just a piece of paper. its a sprit sail, only I didn't have a Lego piece long enough to act as a sprit so I had to extend it a bit. this last picture is my favorite more photo's Here for those who think ; Hé, where is the rigging and the Jib? there isn't. Liveboats don't have a Jib or a boom for safety and simplicity reasons. there is also no rigging, this is not necesary because the mast is usually short and thick. Bart

a pub ! very important I think the rest of the things you would expect to find are listed above Bart

I got sick of the computer because it didn't want to do what I wanted it to do, so I pulled out the bricks I decided to make an Admirals barge, big enough to be rowed by a crew of eight. the finished hull is 7 studs wide and 22 studs long. it has a detachable mast, (which doesn't have a sail yet) so it can also do lifeboat duty's an overfiew larboard fiew, the sailers rowing, two marines on guard duty on the bow, the captain of the marines at the helm wile sitting on the doll board (the clips represent the doll's) more and bigger pictures HERE I intend to give it a Spritsail Bart

wow that is looking good (and very big), I hope you enjoy the move to your new house, I got one question, do you know the name of those black lines? in Dutch or English, I cannot find it anywere. Bart PS. I saw the left over (hull part) from the replica Wednesday in Harlingen, and to my suprise it is stil floating -

yeah I could, but its easier to get in England by public transport then in Flevoland. but on the other hand now you can also take some picutres of the building of the Zeven Provincieën. maybe the Duyfken also deserves a page here, I visited it when it was in the Netherlands, its back in Sydney now ... Bart -
Well I have to say your carronade design is just genius. about the canons, yeah you got a problem there, with space ... difficult ... and the gun ports, yes the old ones will look better, maybe you could replace the cones with a normal round brick. Bart
-
I started planking the hull, which is just a fancy way of saying filling up the gaps between my frames, and I put the first four canons in place. I think I will only plank the larboard side and leave the starboard side open, with only the frames and the "those beams I represent with the black tiles (not yet finished) which usually are installed right after the frames are put up and before the planks are put on to keep the frames in place." I don't know there names in English nor Dutch, I also started with the stern colour/decoration, but that will be something for the next post ;) Bart

Here you see the second part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Lp5azQfH0&feature=player_embedded She did a great job in my opinion, I definitely wouldn't have the patience for it Bart

I think I could go and visit the Amsterdam, i live about 1,5hrs from it by bus and ehm have ever only seen it from the bus . I was looking for the visiting hours and, found out that the ship is closed from the first of April till the beginning of October, for major maintenance. Well that also has to be done. Bart P.S. pictures on wikipedia and wikimedia commons are usualy free of copyright -
after viewing some of your pictures of your very nice ship, I think I found the problem of why your bowsprit tends to go up, your missing a stay to pull the bowsprit down, I tried to explain in the following painted photo the blue lines are the ones you already have, the prevent the extension on the bowsprit from going up. the red line you are missing, it would keep the bowsprit down. I don't know in English but in Dutch that stay is known as the 'water stay' (NL: waterstag) Bart

there are multiple reasons why there wouldn't be a boom there 1 - there is no boom there for safety reasons, this way the boom cannot hit people from the deck, when the sails would jibe when turning head in the wind. 2 - there is no boom to accommodate a bigger sail, the bottom part of the sail is longer then the space between the masts, when there would be a boom this would make it impossible to change tack. the same way as modern yachts use a Genoa instead of a jib. 3 - there is no boom in that position to keep an easy passage in to the cargo hold. Bart
-
that's really a nice ship, it has great looks, but I've got to agree with Captain Becker that the canons look a bit small compared to the gun ports Bart
-
your just keeping improving your ship, great to see, imo the stern looks better this way then the previous design. Bart
-
thanks for the link captain Becker. not quit sure what you meant by thining the masts. I made theme like this because I wanted the extensions to become smaller, next thing to do will be the bowsprit, which will be made out of two pieces, and then I will force myself to do the interior, turn the decks and let them curve up towards the bow and stern. Bart

hello, here I am again I did something else again, I added the masts, therefore I used/copied an hexagon design I've seen on this forum somewhere, I only couldn't find it back. my intention is to give the masts two extensions. giving it three sails per mast. The only thing is, how high are masts (compared to the length of the ships hull) ? Bart
