Popped into our local indie toy shop this morning and they had the whole lot on the shelves, came away with the Giganotosaurus set and a very happy 7 year old!

Any store can choose to break the release date embargo, the release date is the 16th as confirmed by the Lego press release which also confirmed the UK price (£114.99), I guess it may be in the official UK stores today, who knows?!

76949 (Giganotosaurus) hasn't appeared on the UK Lego shop@home today (it's not even 'coming soon', so weirdly the release date in the press release doesn't seem to be correct.

My 7 year old has saved since Christmas for a few of the new JW sets but has decided to go with the Giganotosarus set now he's seen pictures. We called our local store (Bristol) who confirmed they had the new sets (but would not acknowledge Giganotosaurus, oddly) but as they were shut on release day, they would not sell them until Monday 18th. After a bit of digging, it seems it's actually out tomorrow (16th) at £114.99. Can anyone confirm? It's an hour drive but we don't want to do that for a set that as it stands, apparently doesn't officially exist! Very strange all round, 17th for most new sets, a day which pretty much every store in the UK is shut and no deliveries, and another set which may or may not be coming out but no official word on yet.

So this has crashed the Lego site worldwide and sold out within hours. If the aggressive pricing was an experiment in a new pricing structure it seems to have worked quite nicely, impressive for a site with only exclusively adult appeal.

I need to order the Friends set asap but I'm not going to risk ordering and not get the promo. I'm guessing they've put that banner up too early.

I wasn't expecting or anticipating a visitor centre, but it's fair to say I was hoping for a minifig scale Explorer, Jeep and a new Dino (sauropod?) mould. Or a large set containing all of the above in the existing minifigs scale. Or even a Creator Expert size Explorer or Jeep. It just seems like such an obvious win for Lego that for whatever reason has not happened. Me and my 4 year old son would move heaven and earth for a set containing any one of the above mentioned features. I don't think it would have been underwhelming as a D2C to have lots of relatively smaller elements to make one big expensive set, particularly as most are desperate for them. A couple of dinosaurs, minifigures, minifig scale Jeep and Explorer and then a smaller play feature would have ticked almost every box. As somebody has mentioned, it's like Ghostbusters sets without Ecto-1. Lego love a vehicle, the Avengers sets even have entirely made up one's!

Jurassic World 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

They had the full range of the new sets in the store at Legoland Windsor today. They all look great, my 4 year old son had his Christmas money and struggled to pick between the Triceratops, Baryonyx and Mech T-Rex. -

As soon as my son see's that robot T-Rex his head is going to explode. It's bonkers but I'm sure it will be wildly popular. -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Minifigure have been in our local toy store here in the UK for a few days now. My wife picked the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th as the store owner assured her it was a fresh untouched box (and it looked untouched) but she got none of the Wizard of Oz characters! On the plus side, the little cat is awesome and so detailed. I think it'll be near impossible to guarantee in intact order sequence in a store unless the case is unsealed right in front of you. -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Interesting, the Lego Movie 2 sets have been available direct from Amazon UK for some time now so I wonder why they are holding out, we got the classic Benny set on Jan 2nd if I remember correctly . Certainly in my local Tesco Extra they put everything from 2018 on clearance immediately after Christmas, the Lego shelves have basically been completely empty ever since. They had a promotional stand with loads of the new City sets just before Christmas but they sold out within a week and have never been restocked. -
Amazon UK, but prices jumped around pretty quick. Carnotaurus set was £44, Lockwood Estate was £90, Stygimoloch £26, Pteranadon Chase £13 etc. As an aside, does anyone know where to officially get the new polybag from...30382 Velociraptor Playground?

Some pretty decent discounts online in the UK for these already, wasn't expecting that whilst the film was still on release. Managed to get at least 25% off a number of sets this morning.

Agree on the above. My son loves the dinosaurs but isn't too fussed by the sets (apart from the t-rex transport they aren't particularly inspiring). Obtaining the different dinosaurs is prohibitively expensive as it stands, but weirdly it wouldn't seem so bad paying a large premium to buy the standalone dinosaurs. He's effectively just spent £45 (his Christmas money) buying the Junior T-Rex set just to obtain the dinosaur. It's money well spent in a way as he absolutely adores it, but the rest of the parts have already gone back in the box.

My son came home with a Lego Jurassic World magazine yesterday, it includes a little set consisting of a small nest scene (with two eggs) and a baby raptor. Relatively unusual parts for a magazine build, he loves it. It's £4.50.

I'm still hoping for the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer in Creator Expert scale. Such an iconic vehicle and it's lovely and bright.

They've added the Jurassic World section to the UK Lego Shop so presumably on their way soon.

Yes almost of them aside from some of the early ones I believe. The retailer I spoke to normally has no trouble getting in large quantities, even of sets you don't exactly find in Toys R Us such as the Porsche GT3, but they can't get the Caterham at all.

Apparently Lego are keeping this one to themselves and not distributing it widely to other retailers, and that's in the U.K. where this was always going to be far more popular than any other territory. I did wonder when this was announced if it would be a limited run given its quite a niche product compared to the Mini, F40 etc, turns out that may be the case.

ASK HERE MOC-stuck? Ask for general building advice here!
ukaskew replied to mrklaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Any thoughts/ideas/tips on building a large fence? I'm putting together a 32x32 motorsport pit lane, so I need something that can be built fairly tall (at least 10 blocks high) with the ability to leave a few gaps where pit crew can pop their heads through. Something like this... -
I'm currently working on a motorsport MOC and have hit a bit of stumbling block. I've built about 20 race cars no problem, as to start me off I had a few current City cars which pointed me in the right direction. But now I'm onto the paddock structure, and I don't really know where to start. Is there some kind of magic formula to working out what size things need to be? I'm building it to current City 'spec' and style, but I quickly realised using minifigs as an indicator just doesn't work. So I then put the fixed size objects in place, such as doors and windows, just to get a rough idea of how big it would need to be, and it's going to be huge based on that. I'm a little confused, I also have Apple Tree House, which has appropriate sized doors etc for minifigs, but the garage is tiny and wouldn't fit any current cars. I appreciate that's Creator and therefore a little different, but it appears to be in proportion yet is much smaller than if I started to plot out a house build myself. As you can tell, I'm very new to this!
-
Thanks for your comments, they all require a bit of work, I was raiding my limited parts bin to flesh them out so a Bricklink order will probably be required. Most (8 of them) are actually fine for a minifig, the 'doors' are the angled plates used in pretty much all the current City sets with cars and fit a minifig perfectly. The only problem ones are those that use standard bricks as doors (the orange, light blue and lime cars) as the minifigs can't get their arms down to the steering wheel.

I've been busy recently creating race cars, 12 down, 8 to go (I'm just waiting for parts in a few different colours to finish the rest), these are loosely based on the 'Open Sports and GT' series that runs locally, which is essentially anything from modified saloon cars, hot hatches, sports cars and GT cars. A few samples below, again these are trying to keep within the current City size and style...
-
Great review, mine arrived from S@H yesterday and it really is a great set, both cars are fantastic with some interesting design features. A little expensive, but I'm trying to collect all the 'new-style' cars so this was a no-brainer for me.
