  1. Blackbird, I have got a last minute correction to the Pinball module: at the bottom of the conveyor belt, the pairs of DBG 1x14 technic bricks should be secured with an additionnal technic brick (1x6 will do) and 4 pins for each side. It's obvious when you try to move this thing!
  2. Alan Burchill: using cam, stairs do a little hop then stay level for 3/4 turn of the crankshaft. Akiyuki (both videos) : stairs constantly moving up or down. Furthermore, amplitudes in both movement is very different.
  3. IMHO replicating this module from Alan Burchill's video would be replicating Alan Burchill's GBC module and not Akiyuki's one since the mechanisms are different (see at 1'05")

Hello everyone, Here is a MPD file of Akiyuki's GBC Pinball module, which is seen in all his videos showing a multi-modules layout, and still present at Kobe's Brickfest last weekend (see above). As usual, Akiyuki has made some change over the years, like replacing a brick-built pathway from conveyor belt to pinball by a liftarm-built one, but he kept the original colours (mostly white and yellow over a green baseplate) and I think it's a nice change from the usual Black/DBG pattern. Of course, I used those colours as well in my file. This is a very simple and reliable module, whose annoying part is the use of a hundred of long pins in black much more costly that blue ones now. Now that every module (non-mindstorm) that could be done is done (apart from Zig-zag stairs but there is not a single video showing what's on the inside, so how could we be accurate or faithful?), and since building and trying to replicate those modules has been the most fun I had with Lego in years, I hope we won't have to wait long before Akiyuki's next masterpiece.   8. Thanks, but it's a variation on Step module, not Zig-zag Stairs. No individual video for this one, and it's the same for all the early modules we see in his first video. But it's the only one from that batch of modules that we get to see in later layouts, so I think it deserves a spot, even if mechanically it's quite simple.
  9. Blackbird, Nice work on the instructions as always. I was not expecting you would have trouble with the switch mechanism. Once I exchanged the ridged axle joiner I first used for a smooth one in the driving ring, it solved my switch problem instantly. Also, I used old clutch gears (with teeth), not more recent (smooth) ones. Maybe they are a bit different in the inside. The Basket Shooter could be used upstream of it, with a slight modification like I did on my video (but the exit from the basket is still awfully close to horizontal). Downstream, it has to be the Marble Run. Have you tried it? (Oh yes, you linked it to the Bucket Wheel Tower. So you have to build a second one !) I have seen that you have no other module in work. Could you still make instructions from the Step module I posted lately, even if you don't want to build it ? and finally, I'm working on Akiyuki's old Pinball module (still seen at Brickfest 2015 though). Would you add it to the list and publish instructions for it if I provide a MPD ?
  10. That's the path I have chosen, and it's the reason why you don't see more than 2 modules at the same time in my videos. Are you willing to add one more to the list? Here is a MPD file for the Lime Step module only seen at Japan Brickfest 2015. No big improvisation was necessary this time, except the use of 1x2 Technic bricks with axlehole fixed on every rod. Without it, the module was less reliable, dropping 1 ball every 20 or so. Did Akiyuki used the same building method? I don't know. Also, in my video you can see balls getting stuck on U-turns sometimes, I have since made correction to the output slide and it does not happen anymore.
  11. Thanks! Earlier or later? To me this module seems post Step-v2, an attempt to make a step module as light as possible, with a result reliable enough to make Brickfest but not sufficiently groundbreaking to get its own video.

Hello everyone, I have reproduced one of Akiyuki's "lost module": Step v3 or, as I call it, Lime Step (not applicable to the one I filmed though) : I believe it morphed into Fork to Fork and that's the reason it never has a proper video. I borrowed the "ferris wheel" from the Fork to Fork but not the gearing : they are different and this module is faster. This module is very reliable but the output, being light and fragile, is very "un-akiyuki". A MPD file will follow soon, in a day or two.

  14. I did not know the video either. It would not have been that helpful for the Elevator as the gearing and rods are not detailed. It might give a starting point for the Zig-zag stairs though. @yoyo08190, I'm building Fork to Fork module right now, I may have a try to reproduce the step module you speak about afterwards since they share the same input.
  15. @Blackbird, good luck in your investigation. For the Elevator, the 100cm string from the 42042 Crane is just the right size and length. I used it without any knot, using Axle 3L with Stud to tie it to the elevator cars.
  16. @Blackbird, I was going to suggest you the switch to a smooth axle joiner, I'm glad it solved your problem. Strangely, I did the exact opposite to solve mine (train stopping in a middle of a curve). Also, when I tested the crane loader lack of power was not an issue, the M motor was only suffering a bit with a full load of balls. What I spend most time on was the tuning of the trigger mechanism. Did you find a way to tune the 2 gearboxes quickly ?
  17. I couldn't have done that much with the video only. The bottom view was indeed very helpful but still I couldn't decipher that area mostly hidden behind the outer frame in the picture - and the all-black build didn't help.
  18. Here is a MPD file for the Planets module, the last one of Akiyuki's flawless designs. The only thing I could not deduce from his material is the area beneath the "black hole" turntable, including the gearing from the main shaft so I improvised there using one more gearbox part. Otherwise, I believe the rest to be quite faithful to Akiyuki's original. GBC_Planets.zip
  19. Here is my take on the siding track for Akiyuki's GBC train: - the central part is the most accurate to Akiyuki's design. The external parts are left crude, modelled from the older video and maybe already wrong (the SNOT 2x2x3 slope is my guess) - this will not work without a smooth axle joiner into the driving ring on the train. When I began working on Akiyuki's GBC Train, that was my first choice but when I tried to make a loop with the crane loader, I found out the train would not go all the way and would stop in a middle of a curve. Then I changed for an axle joiner with ridges and it worked much better - but it won't with the siding track, unless maybe using a very worn out one. - in my experience, it also works better with a longer siding track, so I added a straight track to the design - even so, I may have missed something because it doesn't always work

  23. Yes, a GBC train is one loader, one unloader and one switch (switch is mandatory for Akiyuki's train). I'd say build the Crane Loader for the 'Wow' factor but bring the conveyor belt loader at a Brickfest! I use LPub mainly to check my work with MLCad, you can delete all or part of those LPub commands as you wish.
  24. Hello everyone, Here are the MPD files for Akiyuki’s GBC Train. It includes the conveyor belt loader, crane loader, switch, unloader and the train itself. A word about Akiyuki’s GBC Train: His GBC Train is seen in 4 videos : GBC Train Module (mechanical) from 2011, Crane Loader (2012/1), the famous multi-modules at home video (2012/2) and Brickfest (2015). The switch which is seen in the 4 videos is never twice the same! Mechanically, my version is modelled after his latest but I kept the baseplate he used in the first 3. The train itself is modelled after his 2012/1 version where a bottom view is available, but the cargo is 1 plate higher to make it compatible with the latest unloader (from the 2012/2 video onward, his train is 1 plate taller that it used to be) I tried to replicate his latest unloader and improvised a bit for parts that are not visible or too blurry in the 2015 video. Specifically, Akiyuki use 2 linked shock absorbers and I couldn’t figure how, in the end I put only one on and it’s working fine. The conveyor belt loader seen in his 2015 video is mechanically very different from his first one (2011). Mine is modelled from the latest, again with some improvisation. One interesting thing is that I dug a 20 years old half-bush with teeth and mated it with an old 16t gear with clutch to replicate the clutch mechanism included here, and for me it’s the first time I see the castellations of that gear in use. Finally, the crane loader I modelled is the 2012/2 one (accommodating the taller train) but 2012/1 and 2012/2 are really the same apart from a couple of pins placement. The thing is huge ! On my PC, LPub crashes 2/3 through the built when it’s trying to generate overall views (with an LDView runtime error) because of the size of this thing (Am I right here?). GBC_Train.zip
  25. The Crane Loader MPD is nearing completion. I can say it’s more than 3000 parts without the train, switch and unloader ! It will be around 3700 parts as a whole, plus 600 parts for the alternate loader. In the meantime I have made a video of all the modules I have built so far. Hope you’ll enjoy it :
