One of my favorite techniques, is to remove the hands, head and legs from a torso, and have it hanging as a jumper. The new small smartcar set comes with a front and back printed hoodie, as does the "beanie skater" from the new collectable minifigs.

Exactly, people only want them mint, sealed, in box, with instructions. For us bricklinkers, theres no such luck.

eBay user sells instructions for other builder's MOCs
thewatchman replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, this is pretty horrible. Outright stealing from people who are amazing designers. I would love to say that the solution for this is too release the instructions online for free, but i also understand that the designers want their creations to stay unique to there town. However it would kill their business and stop them from making money on others ingenuity. This is a tough one... -
I used the exact same fix for the blue arch. There were NONE for sale on bricklink when i tried to find some.
-
I've pieced this kit out via bricklink and paid about $300 - $400 Australian for it. It's far cheaper than the 800 - 1000 bucks for one from ebay or complete kit.

Do you have the Green grocer yet? In my opinon that was the most fun build, though cafe corner was very fun too.
-
good point, i love corner builds, they look great, so much frontage. im gonna complete a full interior to my cafe corner once im finished my current project.
-
hey john, i cant speak for everyone but i can tell you that the pet shop is not as good a build as the grand emporium, in my opinion. the pet store is repetative in sections and is not as complex a build as grand emporium. for me pet store felt like a creator kit, where as the emporium feels like a "modular". also i feel that the pet store is no where near the same level as some of the mocs ive seen on here, but the decision is ultimatly yours.
-
yeah im thinking of buying a set or two from ebay, but i often build for techniques and style and i dont wanna buy a set before knowing the complexity of the build, guess im greedy,
-
hey guys, ive spent a while building my modular city and for me, one release a year is five too few. iv seen so many good ones that i wish to add to my collection, and while i build my own modular, i was wondering if anyone knew of a site with building guides or instructions for there own modular buildings? would love to find out...
-
that would be great, id hate to rebuild someones modular without an ok,
-
yeah i dunno whether to use dark red and light tan or straight red and white just yet. it takes me for ever to get anything done on my modular designs, i have finished the kitchen so far, with a grill rangehood and vents and a fridge and a small stovepot pizza oven with a small stack of wood :p
-
you people are crazy, so far the fire brigade has been the best build. the build techniques and 'fun' of the kit was there, the same as green grocer. i found grand emporium a very good looking and fun build, albiet slightly bland. the per store though,,, not the same can be said.
-
wow dude, this is great, classic...classic town styling. dont be intimidated by the modular, you are very capable of the interior design aspects of the modular style. i myself am working on a italian modular restraunt, and the only thing i can suggest is studs not on top styling as already suggested. keep building dude. re: try red and white checkers with the table tops

first off, great reveiw, clear concise and if i wasnt already a collector it would have made me seek further modulars. on a side note though i finished the build last night and iv gotta say i found it lack lustre. it felt like market street all over again and considering the quality of the MOC's i see here on EB i felt it didnt do the modular line justice, i wish it had been released as part of the creator kits for this year. the kit also felt like they had cut out as many bricks as possible for maximum profit, and this kit definatly needs additions. all said my main critisism is the bland look, its just windows and stacked bricks, not advanced techniques at all (especially second floor pet store *facepalm*) the kit is still ok, but i was left wanting, that said i wonder what the next modular will be.
-
hmm i bought all the peices for market street, cafe corner and green grocer from bricklink and i only paid about 200 dollars for each set. i even "fixed" some sections, for example the awning on cafe corner has a single 1x1 flat tile next to a 2x1 flat tile, so replaced them with a 3x1 tile instead, something that im sure the designer would have done had those peices been available at the time. admittedly there are some HARD peices to come across and they cost more, but its cheaper than forking over 500 plus shipping.
-
is there any chance of the build method and a parts list being put up for this? i am seriously considering adding this to my town, with your approval of course,
-
using the catalogue on bricklink ive actually managed to build market street and 3/4 of cafe corner relatively cheap. just look for good brick prices.
-
i couldnt agree more the design style of fire brigade is amazing.
-
your right, i know, im just so in awe of the others and this one is good but its not as good as the others. :) im still getting it, but im buyin it from 'merica cause its cheaper. not paying aussie prices.
-
im still really on the fence with this kit. to be honest it looks tired and un-inspired. at least market street will look good next to it.
-
i think its - 1 - 32x32 tan baseplate. 2 - a non numbered bag containing the black plastic pipes, and skylight "glass" peices hope it helps
-
wow im amazed at your ability to build from memory. awesome
-
wow!! that looks amazing dude. i seriously love it!! one of the best interiors in a "shop" that ive seen yet!!
-
wow i love the techniques used to make the curves for such an iconic place! amazing :)
