  1. This is exactly what I meant. I've never seen imperfections like this on my sets from the 80s/90s. Personally, when I see things like this it makes me feel like I'm playing with a cheap plastic toy from China rather than the quality toy I grew up with.
  2. This is may or may not be related to the color changes, but has anyone noticed that pieces are starting to have stress marks on them? (I am referring to the lighter colored spots that appear on some pieces)
  3. Like Dread_Privateer_Roberts said, Lego Pirates are set during the Golden Age of Pirates. Therefore any guns would have been flintlock. The rifles used in the western sets resembles the lever action Winchester and would not be appropriate for Napoleonic era either. The BrickArms musket Captain Becker mentioned looks more like a percussion cap musket than a flintlock to me which would also not be appropriate for pirates.
  4. It is a great Moc and I really like the modular design, especially that you can see the decks on top of each other. Two things you could change to make it look more like the Dauntless would be to give it the yellow and black stripes on the sides and to change the stern. Right now the shape of the ship looks more like a galleon than a ship of the line. On a ship of the line, the cabins should be hanging over the rudder and flair out to the sides. This will give it more room for guns and a better appearance of a ship of the line.
  5. One thing that was always lacking in new and old minifigs was regular sailors. I've always used the classic striped pirate torsos as my sailors because the soldiers weren't the ones sailing the ships! I agree that I don't think the Red coats and Blue coats were ever meant to be enemies. Personally I've always just assumed all the soldiers were British and changed the Blue coats to officers because officers in the Royal Navy wore blue uniforms and the marines wore red.
  6. I really like the cannon design, that is one I haven't seen before.
  7. I found all those parts on Brick Link and the generic parts are also available on Lego's website through "Pick a brick." Are you just going to lengthen the ship? Because you may notice when you do this the proportions will look off.
  8. I'm looking to purchase several sets including SES, BSB, and ITP. Since the instructions are available online, and the majority of these sets are comprised of pieces I can buy from "Pick a Brick" would it be cheaper to just acquire the pieces I need to build them rather then buy them complete on ebay? From what I've observed, sets seem to average a 30-%40 mark up from their SRP. I realize that I'll have to get the unique pieces on brick-link but could this still be a cost effective idea?
  9. Does anyone know why Lego decided to change some of the colors of their bricks? My biggest complaint is the new shade of brown because the new barrels, treasure chests, etc do not go well with my old ones from the 90's. Could this be an attempt to try and make people want to replace their old brown pieces with these new ones?
  10. I believe that was the interceptor too. Since they already seem to have designs, I wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibility that we might get the Dauntless/Endeavor and the Interceptor.
  11. Why did he call Admiral Woodhouse Governor Broadside?
  12. I'll keep the characters with their flesh skins but any soldier or character repeat will be changed to yellow.
  13. I'm curious to what "Caribbean aesthetic" you're referring to. I also noticed in a catalog picture that there is a volcano in the background which would reinforce the Polynesian argument. Also the catamaran is a quintessential Polynesian feature.
  14. I always thought the Islanders were based of Polynesian tribes. The dress, design motifs, and statues resemble more of the Polynesian culture than the Caribs of the Caribbean IMO. Either way, crocodiles, parrots, pigs, dogs, and chickens are a good choice.
  15. The long brown tile piece with the wood grain will be a nice alternative to use as decks on ship MOCs
  16. I think I remember the Talking Skull saying it was Ben Gunn included with Loot Island
  17. This is sort of off topic but my next project will be to cut prefab hull pieces in half so that I can make the hull wider which will give my ship more realistic proportions. A similar technique may be able to give you the taller stern/bow that you seek.
  18. Sorry, I thought your other post referred to Uhu as the Islander princess. I believe Brikpedia names Flashfork as the one I posted.
  19. In my opinion its a poor financial choice to open a MSIB Lego set. Then again I suppose IF to someone the joy of opening a new set is worth anywhere from 5 to 10 times the original retail value of a Lego set, then to each is own I suppose. I do think your money would be better spent on buying a larger quantity of Lego but just as there are people who will drink a $1000 bottle of wine, I guess there are people who want to open a MSIB Lego set. I do believe that MSIB Lego should be left to the collectors who appreciate them for their rarity/value.
  20. Sure, do you want pdf files or should I post a new thread with the pictures?
  21. I recently found some of my Lego Mania Magazines from the 90's and I found the March 96 issue about the new Pirate line. Here are the names of the crew of the Red Beard Runner: Captain (Roger) Redbeard Tattoo McGoo Parma Sean LaFeet Jake the Snake Blake Black Jack Hawkins And here are the rest of the names for Runamuck: Governor Broadside Lt. De Martinet Admiral Woodhouse Brickbeard The Admiral Bo'son Will Ironhook Rummy Flashfork Steve Anne King Kahuka Uhu (the princess) the prince I think this is Ben Gunn from Treasure Island Spinoza Popsy I think that is about it, hope this helps!
  22. I really liked them as a kid. If Lego were to come out with a new line I would like to see Caribbean Islanders instead of Polynesian.
  23. I was just wondering, Is $200 a good price for a SES or BSB in good condition (crisp sails etc) with the box? If not what would be a fair price?
  24. I'm curious to see what they would do with either the Dauntless or the Endeavor. It would also be nice to get a good model of the Port Royal fort, something with at least 2000 bricks.
  25. Is there any chance of this becoming a 3 or even 4 deck ship?
