  1. No worry! I had the same experience with my v1.0 build after having the car on shelf for a year. The clutch gear was often cracking in 1st gear. That was the motivation for my redesign with v1.1. Now the car runs very smooth in 1st gear. I kept the total gear ratio constant from wheel to engine. Only the main drive shaft speeds up a little to reduce torque on the U-Joints.
  2. Seems to be a new problem of rebrickable with comparing public custom lists. I need to check for that. But, you should be able to view this public custom list and compare by yourself: 42172 - Pimp up my McLaren v1.0.1
  3. This link shows the new parts you need to build Pimp up my McLaren compared to v1.0.1 (which is identical to v1.0): https://rebrickable.com/sets/compare/slow/?1-set=&1-inv=&1-user_list=412031&2-set=MOC-198397&2-inv=244849&2-user_list=
  4. I have released an update to Pimp up my McLaren with release v1.1. These are the new improvements: removing clutch gear in main drive shaft (steps 31, 91) gearing up main drive shaft higher revolution / reduced torque (steps 1, 31, 92, 173) reinforced gearbox less friction, better bearings (steps 90, 92, 99, 107) DNR gearbox => prevent 4L axle shift out when joining front and back modules (step 170) additional gear box blocker at HOG gear box switch for more precise shifting (steps 270-273) improved building instructions more easy to use higher level of modularity in submodels only 4 main parts (back, front, left, right) for chassis, easy to connect (steps 284-285, 330-331, 373-374) only 2 main parts (right, left) for roof (steps 420, 429) allows quicker disassembly and reassembly of unchanged submodels recolouring several parts for a cleaner look A closer look to the new drive train: The new modular design with only 4 main submodels for the chassis: After mounting these 4 submodels you are able to do a test drive: Have fun pimping up your McLaren!
  5. After 3 years I have rebuild my Ferrari again. By doing this I made some small improvements on "Pimp up my Ferrari v1.1" I would like to share with you: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-121753/jb70/42143-pimp-up-my-f-e-r-r-a-r-i/#details I made 3 important changes: Reinfoced gearbox stepper solves a problem when switching between 4th and 5th gear. Adding a window the bottom frame for better view on the gearbox shifting mechanism: I reworked building instructions to be more easy to use. I combined some steps to bigger modules so it will be more easy to attach or remove this modules at once, if you make changes to previous steps.
  6. If you already have built Pimp up my Porsche v1.4, you can use Rebrickable Compare Sets to see, which additional 66 parts you need to build Pimp up my Porsche v1.5
  7. After a few years I started rebuilding my Pimp up my Porsche again. It is a great pleasure to rebuild it again and by the way this helps to dust off your models ;-). And while doing this, I again found some improvements to this great MOD: - New Building Instructions with high res renderings, highlighted steps, continuous step numbers, extended modular build and better ease of use - Using new designed Stickers (https://library.ldraw.org/parts/sticker-sheets/1059) in Building Instructions and renderings - Free view to the complete gearbox from the underside of the chassis - Reinforced Body by - modified dashboard fixing to chassis - reinforced A-pillar at windscreen allows to grab the body or car at the roof with one hand If you like to Pimp up your Porsche again, please have look to this new update v1.5!
  8. Inspired by @Piotr Mocko I modified the bottom of the chassis to have a clear view to the complete gearbox from the underside: And I reinforced the removable body. Now it is very robust and can be grabbed with one hand under the roof. Here is the improved section of the windscreen: Looks fine in the complete build.
  9. i have replaced it by a 4L axle with stop. In the first days there was still an old v1.5 of Book 1 online. Please update your download to v1.6! You can read the release number on the title page.
  10. After years I have rebuild my Bugatti and it was a lot of fun doing it again! While building, I revised my building instructions, including all stickers and step highlighting. And I found several details how to pimp it up again. So these are my latest improvements to Pimp up my Bugatti v1.6: revised building instructions with part highlighting and continuous step numbers and some improvements for ease of use added stickers to building instructions precise position of rear axle brake calipers (page 10, step 21 / page 13, step 31) better bearing of axle in front of W12 engine (page 53, step 102) reinforce HOG steering (page 61, step 108-113 / page 86, step 158 / page 93, step 169-177 / page 114, step 200-205 / page 300, step 492-506) reinforce DNR gearbox (page 66, step 120-128 / page 93, step 169-175 / page 127, step 225) reinforce Paddle Shifter (page 106, step 186-189 / page 110, step 195-196) reinforce HOG shifter (page 113, step 198 / page 124, step 217) reinforce HOG spoiler (page 206, steo 333 / page 128, step 351) reinforce door hinges (page 154, step 262 / page 163, step 277)
  11. I have released a new v1.3 of Pimp up my Lamborghini with some minor upgrades! New features: Revised building instructions with part highlighting and continuous step numbers and some improvements for ease of use Using new printed parts in instructions and renderings Added 2 half pins next to center diff to allow free run when wheels are detached (step 34) Reinforced gearbox indexer with reduced friction for shifting (steps 40, 46, 62) Reinforced gear stepper (step 64, 116, 171) Smoother door mechanism by using non-friction pins and axles (steps 189, 192, 193, 203, 206, 435, 456)
  12. Has been released today on https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-198397/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren
  13. And here is my next release Pimp up my McLaren v0.5: Digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd Building Instructions: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book1.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book2.pdf New features: I improved the shifting process by replacing the universal joints with strong CV joints between paddle shifter and gearbox. Now it works very smooth without any backlash. And I improved the door mechanism by replacing most of the involved friction pins with non friction pins or axles. I added some reinforcements to the main door hinge and the lock which catches the closing door and holds it in place. Now the door opens easy and precise, keeps well in opened position, is more stable (less wabbly) and the closing door will always be safely catched in place. Next steps: I will add some final renderings to the building instructions, create part list and publish v1.0 on https://rebrickable.com/users/jb70/mocs/ soon.
  14. The digital model of the original set has been updated. All new parts are now available and included.
  15. @jbuccino Thank you for reviewing! I will fix these issues with the next release.
  16. I made some more improvements on the gearbox and DNR section with v0.4: optimized bearing of axles in gearbox and DNR section to reduce friction changed gear ratio in main drive shaft between rear axle and DNR section from 20/12 * 12/20 to 16/16 * 16/16 This results in the same total gear ratio as v0.3, but less velocity and more torque on the clutch to get the clutch engaged when the gearbox blocks. That happens sometimes, if you change gears via HOG switch under load when the car is moving fast. Changing gears via paddles seem to be more precise (or just slower) so that I do not see the gearbox blocking. some color optimizations some improvements on the building instructions Now I am satisfied with the gearbox. It works as fine and smooth as it used to be for a pimped up supercar. The new gearbox elements 3584 and 4159 offer a complete new gearbox design with a true 7-gear or 8-gear sequential gearbox compared to the previous supercars (2 gearboxes with 4-gear plus 2-gear combined). This comes much more close to real car's design of a gearbox. Here are the files: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book1.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book2.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  17. Yes, here it is: https://rebrickable.com/sets/compare/slow/?1-set=42172-1&1-inv=231259&1-user_list=&2-set=&2-user_list=402539
  18. And here we have: A pimped up gearbox! Optimized 1st gear by omitting 2 gear meshes replaced by a direct connection Optimized housing with improved stiffness reducing friction Geared up by factor 4.3 (pistons move much faster, but still fluently) Replaced the red rubber band by a stiffer white rubber band to improve proper positioning of the gear stepper Simple, but efficient Gear Block between 7th and 1st gear (2 Half Bushes block the gear shifter fork to move in neutral gear), Neutral can still be selected by DNR switch. Here you see the original gearbox layout (1st gear engaged in red, V8 engine in dark red, electric motor in green): And here you see the pimped up gearbox layout (optimized 1st gear engaged in red) and 2 gear meshes swapped (in dark grey and tan sections) to gear up: And last but not least a preview of building instructions including all pimped up MODs so far (HOG steering, HOG shifting, this Gearbox): https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.3/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_v0.3.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.3/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  19. I will focus mainly on technical improvements, but others may have a look for MODs on the bodywork.
  20. And here we have a gear indicator, that can also be used for HOG shifting. I reversed the order of the paddle shifter, so that pulling the right paddle shifts one gear up, as it was the real car. The mechanics fitted perfectly underneath the gloves compartment of the dashboard and needed only some small adjustments to be fixed. The gear indicator turns 45° per gear switch. https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.2/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  21. And here we have a pimped up Hand of God (HOG) Steering with Ackermann geometry and extended turning radius! Works smooth and fine! https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.1/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  22. Box 3 has been finished as original digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd This model is complete now, although it contains some mockups for new parts that were not yet available at ldraw.org. They will be added later. But for starting our MODs it will be OK that way. I will now start pimping the front axle by adding Ackerman steering and HOG steering.
  23. Box 2 has been finished as original digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd No MODs included so far, but can be used for your own MOD ideas.
  24. Please welcome to share some of your ideas for MODs and Improvements to the new 42172 McLaren P1 1:8 LEGO Supercar! I am just starting to build this model, but I already have some ideas to pimp up this model with: - HOG steering - Paddle shifters in reverse order (pulling right to shift up) - HOG shifting - some improvements on the gearbox (e.g. limiter between neutral and 7th gear) - and some other cool stuff I am building the real model and a digital model in parallel, so you can follow and use the digital model for your investigations and MODs: The original set without MODs has been finished as digital model, so far: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd
