  1. One of the nice things about LDD is the starting base which allows placement of axles etc to serve as placement jigs. Is there any way that this "Base Plate" can be loaded into LDCad? Thanx, Ed

  3. I'm in the process of designing a MOC that is a "Recycling Facility", where a pile of assorted color and length bricks are dumped and then sorted (Color and length), grouped and finally placed on pallets for reshipment. Anyway - I have a simple problem and can't come up with a simple solution. Before I start sorting by color and length, I'd like all the blocks to be 'studs up'. A block's reflectivity is different in the studs up position than in studs down and that is how I trigger the turning over process for upside down blocks. One solution I have found is to flip them with lift arms, but that is not reliable. I've tried grabbing them with horizontal pincers, then rotating and placing them back on the conveyor which is a little complex. Does any one have any other solutions I should explore? References to other MOCS would be appreciated. Thanx, Ed
  4. I'm just getting back into technic / mindstorms and working on automated / robotic machinery. As an example I built the color sorter 'robot' from the Educational Core and Expansion sets. At the same time I did the 42042 Crawler Crane. The crawler is a natural for pure studless construction (it did have a few blocks), however the sorter was not. The sorter ran well but shook and shimmied ! Replacing the undercarriage made out of studless components with studded bricks made the whole thing more stable and reliable. Considerable savings in time and parts. The MOC that I am working on will need a stable base and the combined use of both types of construction real is 'required'. The two different types of construction work very well together and I hope that TLG continues to offer both. Ed
  5. Is there any way to get the display of the ev3 back to a computer in order to get a more visible interface? Any other suggestions to improve viewing? I'm already looking for a Fresnel lens that I can mount on the EV3. Thanx, Ed
  6. I looked through posts and was not able to spot anything - so here goes. I am a newcomer, so that explains a lot of things All of the parts catalogs I've seen and used (Brickset, Basebrick and Bricklink) seem to be incomplete. I figure that is because the majority are based on bricks, etc., for sale. I've gotten a hold of a quantity of assorted parts, multiples of many parts, and am trying to organize them. Is there a 'Master Catalog' of all the Lego bricks that are/were made? Color is not very important to me yet, so a B&W catalog would be OK. Thanx, Ed
  7. Thanks for all the replies. I was shying away from EV3-g until I looked at the code in back of one of the rubics cube solvers. There is a whole lot more to that language then first, and limited, views, show. Gonna push that sucker for a while and see what I can do with it. Ed
  8. I downloaded Small Basic and it's extensions after reading the following http://www.legomindstormsrobots.com/lego-minstorms/ev3-basic-microsoft-basic-programming-ev3/ Has anyone worked with it? Ed
  9. There are several languages available for EV3 programming (Small Basic, etc). Which seems to be the most popular? Thanx, Ed
