[MOC] H-24 Engine
apemax replied to apemax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yep a tempest or typhoons is what I'm planning on currently at some point for it. Thanks mate, Yeah I remember seeing your Typhoon and Spitfire before I built my Spitfire, Seeing your amazing models certainly helped when I was building my spitfire. Thanks mate, Yeah gearing is actually fair simple. -

Yep thats the plan, Either a Tempest or a Typhoon, Haven't one hundred percent decided which yet. Thanks mate. Thanks mate, Yeah I would be very tempted to if I had that set, Unfortunately I don't, Perhaps I'll have to make my own with the Engine at some point. -
Hello everyone, Been a while since I posted here however I'm back with just a fairly small MOC this time, A Working H-24 Engine. Been meaning to post this for a while but only just got around to doing it, Not much to say about it really, It's a fairly simple design for a H-24 24 cylinder engine. For the most part it was inspired by the Napier Sabre engine although it's not a complete model of it as you can see, Just the actual core mechanical part, A generic H-24 engine I suppose. I have plans to put this into a MOC I'm planning on making at some point, Maybe when I finish the current one I'm working on. Anyway, on with the pictures: A video of it being directly powered by a PF M motor: Finally I also made this in LDD so I would know how to rebuild it in the future: The .io file can be downloaded from Bricksafe if you want to see hows it's put together or anything: https://www.bricksafe.com/pages/apemax/technic-engines/h-24-engine Thanks for looking and hope you liked it.

[MOC] B-25 Mitchell
apemax posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello everyone, Well it's been over a year since I last posted here however I've finally finished my B-25 I've been working on for just over a year and a half. It's had several major rebuilds of certain sections since the WIP topic I posted but It's finally at a point where I can call it finished and start on something else. Some basic info first, It's wingspan is roughly 3ft (around 92cm), Fuselage length is about 2ft 6in (around 76cm), It has a XL motor for each engine. so that makes two, It has two M motors powering the landing gear and it also has working flaps, ailerons, rudders and elevators (All controlled though the control column and gear wheel in the cockpit.). The top turret can rotate 360 degrees as well. As you may notice in the pictures below I ended up not being able to fit the battery box into the actual model as there just wasn't enough room for it, As it turned out though it came in handy as one of the annoying flaws with this model is it won't actually sit on it's landing gear, It just falls backwards so the battery box was just the right hight to prop it up. I spent a long time thinking about the problem but couldn't come up with a solution for this particular model so it's just something I'll have to keep in mind for future aircraft with tricycle landing gear. Anyway, on with the pictures. More pictures can be found on brickshelf here: (once it's public) http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=563243 And on google photos here: https://goo.gl/photo...BLxofc9MjLfL9X8 Finally a video of it: Hope you all like it and thanks for reading/looking. -
Suggestions for string to use with LEGO?
apemax replied to apemax's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the idea, Any suggestions on where I could buy some? -
Hey everyone. I'm trying to find some sort of string to use on my Technic B-25 MOC for the control surfaces however I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to types of string so does anyone have any suggestions for any that is a similar size to the official string and that doesn't stretch much? Also where to get it in the UK? Thanks.

It's 106 stud long so thats about 83cm or 2ft and two thirds.

Just a quick update today as I haven't managed to work on it much this week. I've just been adding a few more details here and there around the model. LDD screenshot. Pov-ray render.

Been working on the Nebulon B Frigate over the weekend so here what I've got done. I've added some more colour to parts of it and I've also added a few small details here and there as well. What do you think? LDD Screenshot. Pov-ray render.

Thanks. Yeah I'm thinking about maybe changing the main colour of it to light bluish grey to try and get it looking closer to the bare metal look some had. That's if I can afford it mind you. Yeah the dust is just a massive pain. I did try and clean it just before taking the pictures but things get dusty so quickly and I admit some of my pieces do need a really good clean. -
Just a quick update today. I've been working on the colours a bit since the last update as well as a few smaller details here and there. I've changed the plates where the red line is to be a bit smoother and I've also added a bit of colour to certain places as well. The LDD screenshot. The Pov-ray render.

As I haven't posted pictures of the actual model for a while I thought I'd do just that and show you what it's looking like now. I've built a possible design for the tail turrets canopy but I'm not 100% sure on how it looks at the moment but it's a start at least. And a picture of the overall progress I've made with it. -
Thanks. Woops, sorry, that didn't come to mind. I'll try to remember that for the future. Thanks. Yeah I've still got a lot more work to do colour wise. It won't be staying all grey for too long. Thanks.

Unfortunately attaching the cylinders around the outer panels wouldn't work as they wouldn't line up right with the axle. That was something I actually thought of before but thanks for the suggestion. I've been working on the engine design a bit more over the past few days and something I noticed was that the design I made before had 8 cylinders however the actual radial engine in the B-25 is a 14 cylinder twin row radial engine so there should actually be 7 cylinders at the front. I had to think about it for a while but I've come up with a possible design for 7 cylinders. I'm thinking this is going to be more or less the final design for the engines as I've got the look somewhere around where I want it and it lets the axle spin freely. What do you all think? -
Thanks. I've done a bit more work on my Nebulon B Frigate over the past week and what I've been focusing on this time is the colours. I've done a test render in pov-ray to see what the colours are going to look like when I do the final renders as the colours are a bit different in LDD to LDView/Pov-ray as you can see in these two pictures. What do you think? The LDD screenshot. The Pov-ray render.

Another quick update today on the engine design of my B-25 project. I managed to come up with a possible design for the radial engines in the B-25 in LDD. What do you all think? -
Thanks mortesv. I want to get the colour as close to the actual thing as possible but I'm not sure what colours to do everything in yet. Any tips?

Thanks. Yeah that was my thought too. A bit of a different update today as I haven't got much progress done on the actual model however I have been trying to come up with a good design for the front of the engines. I've made this in LDD as I don't really have the pieces to make it on the actual model and I'm just trying to come up with ideas at the moment. I think it looks better than it looks now however want do you all think? Also I've been trying to find a design for a radial engine that I can put in the area inside the plates however I haven't been able to find one the fits that also will let an axle through without it spinning the actual engine as well. Anyone have any ideas on this? I've also uploaded the .lxf file if you want to get a better look at it. B-25-engine-WIP.lxf -
Thanks. I'll probably do some more work on the bottom front section plates and maybe a few smaller details here and there. Thanks.
-
Another update on my Nebulon B Frigate today. I've done quite a bit of work on the rear engine section to make the shape of it look a bit closer to the actual thing although I have messed up the internal structure a bit but oh well, I'l fix that at some point. What do you all think?

The plan is to use plates mostly for the curved sections and over some of the body. I don't really have any flex axles so I won't be using any of them. Trying to go for in between a normal studded Technic look and a more plate based look. -

Yeah a square battery box would fit better but unfortunately I don't have any AAA or rechargeable battery boxes. I might be able to get one at some point however I still need to get the second XL motor and second IR receiver as well. That was the only way I could think of making the tail section strong enough while using the least amount of pieces. Unfortunately it doesn't fit when you lay it down and that's pretty much the only place with enough space for the battery box. Just a very quick update today as I haven't gotten that much done over the past week. The main thing that I focused on this time was the front section. I've built the preliminary design of the cockpit canopy and nose canopy and although there is still a few bits to be added I think it make the nose section look much better.
