  1. Nice mod, the set looks a lot more interesting with the added crane. As for video editing software, YouTube offers a free online editor. Also it might be an idea to make a tripod out of lego
  2. My creations: The camera robot was a bit of a pain to get working properly. At it's first public performance it would become unresponsive after it's first movement. The second time it worked slightly better. After that I did a complete rewrite of the code and it worked like a charm. I used it for a college project and received a 10/10 for it . This year I came out of my dark age. I've bought a bunch of sets like 8421, 8258, 8868, 8275, 8455, 8466, 8043, 8297 and 8110. But I have only build 8455, 8297, 8466 and 8043, so I have some work to do. Sneak preview:
  3. You could try Windows compatibility mode or perhaps a virtual machine. I don't own a RCX so i can't test it for you :(
  4. For a first testrun, it did work as intended. We got some interaction going, which is nice because I'm usually building all alone. I'm also quite happy with the video quality and framerate. I'll be doing some more broadcasting right now
  5. It sure was fun and nice to get comments on me struggling with MLCad . The recordings of last night's session can be found here. It may be a bit hard to follow the conversation, since only my voice is recorded and the chatlog is not (plus I'm a noob at live commentaries ).
  6. Hey guys, I have an idea that some of you may like. It is about sharing our lego creations with eachother by streaming it with a webcam. If several people stream their creations while they are building them, we could create our own Lego reality tv We would be able to witness how the best MOC's are made. Also live commentary by both the builder and the audience would be possible. I have put up a simple webpage to test this. I will be streaming my MLCad screen while I am working on my car design. You can see it here: http://brickcam.net. My upload speed is not very good so the framerate might be a bit low. If you'd like to join me, you should do the following: 1. Get an account on http://justin.tv. It's free, quick and easy. 2. Start streaming your webcam or screen. 3. Post your Justin.tv username in this thread, so I can add your stream to the webpage. You can chat with me if you have a Justin.tv account by clicking on the link below the stream. If people like this and we get some broadcasters I will make the website fancier. Let's Build Together! (I have posted this on the technic forum because it is the only forum I read and because my creation is technic)
  7. Good thread. I'd like to add my gearboxes: which i described here
  8. I agree. But looking at the past this isn't very likely. For years the 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig was the only set which featured a compressor. This might be the same for the 8110 Unimog.
  9. That's a great piece of engineering! How long did it take you to design and build it?
  10. It looks really cool! Does the gearbox actually drive the tires or only the fake engine? And how well does it perform when driving it?
  11. Here is a list of the most wanted Technic sets on Bricklink. It gives a decent overview of what sets are nice to get.
  12. These are the sets I own + my opinion: 8466 - Got it for the tires and suspension parts, have only build the chassis (which is nice). 8455 - I love it's playability and complex pneumatics. 8421 - I own 3, but have not build any of them myself It is huge and plays well. 8275 - Got it for the tracks and Power Function parts. Haven't played with it much. 8297 - Got it for the parts, the raising of the suspension is a nice feature. In my opinion 8455 is the best, followed by the 8421.
  13. That would be sweet, since I don't have the mini-LA's yet and I'm very curious about how well it will perform with those.
  14. Thanks, I've taken your advise and build a 50% smaller version . It was quite a pain to have 4 different gear ratios in a small space but eventually I figured it out. I dont have any construction photos but I'm working on some MLCad instructions. BTW, here is a video of my first gearbox attempt failing hard:
  15. Cool project . What is your power supply and how much does the robot wheigh?
  16. You can get a list of all sets using Technic Driving Ring on Bricklink. Most of these sets will feature a gearbox. Instructions can be downloaded from the Lego website.
  17. Maybe it's time for TLC to introduce a new 'Hard to Find' series for Technic similar to the modular buildings. Both are high detail designs with lot's of parts and designed for AFOLs. This beautiful model would probably be a bestseller. Good job!
  18. After building my RoboCam, I wanted to create a car with 4 wheels that uses rack and pinion steering. I also wanted it to include a gearbox with at least 3 different speeds. My first attempt at designing such a gearbox used driving rings and 16 tooth clutches. This proved to be a very inefficient design because with 4 speeds it had a lot of dead gears causing useless friction. This prompted me to design a rather unusual but cool looking gearbox. It shifts gears by lifting and lowering entire gear racks. This minimizes spinning dead gears. Shifting is done using pneumatic cylinders connected to a compressor. The design is modular which makes it easy to add an extra speed to the gearbox or swap gear ratios. It would also be possible to use (mini)LA’s or small pneumatic cylinders. A design with the bottoms of the modules fixed together would also be possible. If there is enough demand for it I will make instructions or demonstrate different setups.
  19. I think the 8297 might be a good choice for you. It has suspension and steering parts, plus it has a nice amount of studless black parts.
  20. Those tracks look brutal!. Will you make a video of it in action?
  21. Great looks and good performance. Your hamster is a funny driver :)
  22. I go to Informatica @ Hogeschool Leiden. My final year starts after the summer break. And thanks for the compliments.
  23. Yes it does Pulling the arm down further will launch the ball with more force and in a higher arc.
  24. This is a catapult I made to control a video game that was made by me and two other guys from my college. The catapult is built on top of an old PS/2 mouse. I have attached rubber bands to the encoder wheels of the mouse so the gears can control it. The video game is about destroying a castle by shooting at the screen. The goal is to free Maria's lover prince Pear who was captured by the evil wizard Haxor. It's the players job to aim at the castle with the catapult and to avoid hitting prince Pear. More info on the game on http://www.digipult.nl
  25. That's a sweet collection he's got. It's nice to see some of the B models next to the A models.
