  1. Nice solution: I was looking for something like this since longtime, cause I hate that custom part I've used many years ago... I think with few modifications on the front chassis it could be possible to use the same concept with a straight 180° connector, but in both cases the max steering angle will be slightly limited.
  2. Frankly speaking, when I was designing my models I was only focused on the final result, and only marginally on the cost optimisation: it was just my own problem... This approach has changed a bit since the building instructions are available, but I cannot change the car liveries and I know that dark blue is a mess. the Dark Green Brick, Modified 1 x 4 with 4 Studs on 1 Side is one of the most difficult part to find: if you use a black one instead would be difficult to catch the difference on the built model, but "I know" that you can see it through the groove of a tile or a cheese slope the Magnet Holder Plate 2 x 2 Bottom was a cheap part when I bought it: now is a piece of gold and I feel guilty you can choose a used part of any color, since it's hidden inside the nose... Feel free to optimize the part list and to find the best balance in term of cost that lets you fully enjoy the final model
  3. Thanks for your feedback okiba75: you've built the first two model I made almost 7 years ago, so hopefully the most recent ones should be even better In terms of cost, I can confirm that the average (for new parts) is about 250-300€, plus 120-150€ for the PF components on the two RC models. And yes, there are some parts which price is rising in the latest months... but I can't believe that my cars are driving BL prices PS: for those who have built some of my models and are interested in printing the stickers, just write me a PM or a mail Blakbird is quite busy right now, so the building instructions will be available only later this year...

  5. Of course you can build it as you prefer Just to give you an idea, you can check this comparison: personally I'm quite satisfied with the final result...
  6. Thanks guys! I forgot to mention the description of the "real" cars: The McLaren M23 was a Formula One racing car designed by Gordon Coppuck, with input from John Barnard. The M23 was never the most technically advanced F1 car, but sound preparation and continual development helped it win 16 Grands Prix, two drivers' and one constructors' world championships in its lifetime, between 1973 and 1977. This model is the 1976 version with lower air intakes used by James Hunt to win the title in the epic battle with Niki Lauda (as seen also in Ron Howard's movie RUSH). In 1977 the same car was used by Gilles Villeneuve in his F1 debut. The Williams FW14 was a Formula One car designed by Adrian Newey. In 1992, after further development work was done to the traction control and the active suspension system, the Williams FW14B was the dominant car and Mansell wrapped up the 1992 Driver's Championship with a then record 9 wins in a season. My LEGO version has working suspensions, steering, V10 engine, rear diffuser.
  7. OK: this is my Easter gift, for those who love the RUSH movie And this one was presented one month ago: Both of them with full working suspensions, steering wheel, fake engine... and the best correspondence to the shape and dimensions of the original cars I've ever achieved Happy Easter!
  8. OK: now is there: http://rebrickable.com/designer/RoscoPC
  9. Another one is ready and will be presented during an event next month
  10. I did it, but the MOC is in pending approval status since more than 2 weeks now...
  11. I agree. Nice looking model, but I'm quite curious to know something about the main structural frame you have considered to support this huge (and amazing) model!

  13. Of course everybody can substitute parts, and you can easily check those that are almost completely hidden: when I design my cars I'm a perfectionist (to me a snot brick under a tile is not "completely hidden") and I consider the rare color parts availability, but then after months or years some parts became very rare and expensive while other parts that once I've used only where strictly necessary are now widely available In any case, a black brick under a dark blue or dark green body is a fair solution difficult to be seen
  14. LOL: thanks for the definition Chase... I'm a hybrid builder @TwentyLeggedHen but the most interesting thing is the technique used to keep them together

  17. Hi Canadius, in this range of scale (about 1:8) you can easily create working steering and suspensions with a fairly realistic shape and geometry (this is my main goal indeed). I always try to use in a creative way the newest technic parts made available by TLG every year, but in absence of any "ball holder connector" I think the new hub is useless. Among the existing parts I would suggest 92907 and 33299 for the front suspension, and all the beams and liftarms you may need.

  19. They were indeed my first attempt to make a MOC out of the Technic F1 sets (8461 and 8458): the F2005 was slightly more than a MOD, while the McLaren was completely new and then I started working with MLcad... refining my design procedure
  20. Thanks a lot! I can tell you that a new one (not motorized) is at a good stage, with the suspensions and chassis already finalized and some aesthetic detail to be defined... It's mainly in dark blue, but we all like additional challenges isn't?
  21. Nice car Jurgen! I was missing Sheepo’s MPS... I have something to look at now
  22. Well, you need to pay some attention while steering to make it go straight, but with some practice... it's ok. The model itself is quite heavy, and the tyres have a lot of grip, so the differential gears are stressed while steering and during the starting phase, under the torque pick of the XL motor.
  23. Nice car and interesting solutions, both for motors and for other small details. Kudos also for your "educational" approach on the instructions.
  24. Damn: so I have no possibility this year I can confirm the nice cooperation with people like Blakbird, so I cannot understand how someone could do that: you're right Nico, it's just LEGO, but you deserve to be recognized as the original author, cause we live also to get some little reward and satisfaction like this.
