Even besides the lower total price, $39.99 for 432 pieces is also the best-ever price per piece for a TIE fighter. -

I don't know about the Y-Wing, but it was true of the Child statue just a few months ago, wasn't it? The first indication we had was somebody in a store in Belgium or somewhere holding the actual set. -

And while the AT-OT doesn’t have the UCS label on the box, it was included on the UCS poster LEGO put out back in 2010 or so. The question of what is or isn’t UCS has been beaten to death on these forums, but the point is just that there is precedent for big, showy vehicle display sets coming with lots of figures. -

I mean, the UCS Sandcrawler had 13 minifigs. And the Republic Dropship with AT-OT, which is pretty much exactly what people are hoping this will be like, had 8. I think the people who want tons of minifigs will be disappointed, but the idea isn’t nearly as ludicrous as you make it out to be. -
Hello! I'm interested in building some smaller ships to accompany my UCS Imperial Star Destroyer, like the Tantive IV that comes with it, so I'm looking for a list of MOCs at that scale (roughly 1:1450, give or take a couple of studs), preferably with instructions available. The best ones I've found so far are Brickvault's nano fleet--I particularly love their Gozanti and Arquitens. There are also a lot of nice Star Wars models at Jorstad Designs that are all claimed to be in scale with the UCS ISD, although the actual scale is somewhat hit or miss (their larger ships are the right size, but their Hammerhead corvettes are almost twice as large as they should be). Finally, there's this Raider-class corvette on Rebrickable. Does anybody know of any more ships at that scale, or where I should be looking to find them?

The Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta reportedly had 10 copies and sold out in about an hour this morning. No idea whether that’s representative of the rest of the country. But the set is supposedly going to be available online later this month, although nobody seems to know the specific date. -

I think you guys are being optimistic about figures--none of the larger-than-minifig-scale UCS sets have come with more than two, and several only have one. It's entirely possible that the Gunship will have only a single clone pilot. If that's the case, I would hope that they might take the opportunity to finally introduce an accurate P1 pilot helmet, without the crest; but we have to bear in mind that the point of UCS sets isn't the minifigures, so getting hopes up at this point is not a good idea. -

The Sandcrawler is much smaller than minifgure scale (somewhere less than half--you can see the door on the side that they've represented as a sticker on a 2x4 piece). The Imperial Shuttle is the other one that's roughly the right size. I tend to agree that it would be hard to double the number of pieces in the Gunship alone and keep it at minifigure scale. They might get there by increasing the detail on some parts (wings, bubble turrets, doors) and adding a couple of side builds or something, but that doesn't really sound like a UCS set. It seems more likely that it would be at the same rough scale as all the UCS starfighters, around ~1.5x minifig. -

Yoda’s is much smaller. A full-size saber would be a larger set than they usually do for the GWPs. -

The 2014 set was only 581 pieces. This is 5.5x larger, not 3x. The price per piece for this one is better than the 2014 set adjusted for inflation. And this one has more building per brick, so to speak, since the landspeeder in the 2014 one was a much larger fraction of that total piece count. This is always going to be kind of a rough comparison, too, though, because the 2014 cantina was a really unusually good set. 8 minifigures, plus the dewback, in a set of that size is fantastic no matter how you slice it, especially since seven of the eight figures were new and the Bith had the new head mold. Practically any other set would look like poor value for money by comparison. But I still think the UCS Cantina holds its own. -

They're weird interior pics, though, aren't they? The way it's set up looks like the official promo shots that they always have, but then it's got those duplicated figures. Did somebody composite that image out of multiple leaks, pulling the speeder and the figures next to it in from somewhere else? -

This is true, but it's also the case that they were coming off a huge glut of new OT molds: 2014 alone had Chewbacca, Imperial gunner helmets, Imperial officer caps, Bith heads, B-wing pilot helmets, the Ithorian head, and the RA-7 heads (the later two technically for Yoda Chronicles, granted), and 2015 had the new Vader, which was two molds. There's no denying that there are gaps in the OT, but at this point I think they're a lot smaller than the ones in the PT and parts of TCW. Boss Nass, Satine (who need new molds) and Shmi Skywalker (who doesn't) are way more important characters than anybody in the OT who hasn't gotten a figure yet, and Padme is extremely underrepresented relative to any of the other main characters since she would need new molds to do justice to many of her outfits. I absolutely adore all the random background characters, but to whatever degree they have a 'new mold budget', I'd rather see them at least knock out everybody who played a significant plot role in the PT before diving into all the one- or zero-line characters from the OT. -

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that this is the first time in the entire history of LEGO Star Wars that there have been seven entirely new characters in one set. There have been sets with more new minifigures (eg., 10188, where most of the figures were new prints of existing characters), but if there has ever been a set that introduced more new names than this I haven’t spotted it. -

And there's still one available right now if you want to buy it, LOL. It would've been pretty silly to have another one in the Cantina too. Which isn't at all to say that it was out of the question, but I'm certainly glad they went with something new. -

Muftak would've been nice. I don't think I'd trade any of the figures for him other than R2 and 3PO (maybe a band member because I already have some, but in the context of the set I think the band members make more sense), but he would be next on my list to add. Wioslea was never in the cards, though, LMAO. She wasn't even in the cantina, and while Garindan wasn't either, she's waaaaaay more obscure than he is. I'm extremely pleased with this. The figure selection is great--my guess had been that we were probably going to get at best four out of Kabe, Muftak, Labria, Elias, Ponda, Evazan, Nadon, and Schous, so the six that we got has exceeded my expectations. And I really thought that all the folks in this thread hyping themselves up for Garindan were being ridiculously optimistic; I'm somewhat shocked that he's actually included. And, on top of that, this is more band members than anybody here predicted. We'll have to wait for clearer pictures to tell whether that's the same Wuher and Greedo from 2018, but I don't think anybody has good grounds to complain about the figures here even if they are. The build looks solid, especially with the outbuildings. I can't tell whether it unfolds, like the last cantina, or whether the roof lifts off, but it looks like there should be a lot of space inside either way. I love the inclusion of the V-35 speeder. A+ for random stuff to add more detail to the universe. Can't wait to see the official photos. Does anybody have any guesses what the blue hologram-looking thing next to the sandtroopers is? Looks kind of like the Leia piece from Obi-Wan's Hut, but I don't know why that'd be in this set. -

I think you have to kick Greedo up to a safe bet--there's no way in hell they release a Cantina without Greedo. They'd have bumped any of the other patrons before him, like they've done in every previous Cantina set. I also think that at least one Bith band member is a pretty good bet, certainly more so than a second Jawa. They just made a new head mold for the Bith not that long ago, and it'd be an odd choice not to include them. That said, it probably doesn't make a lot of sense to speculate about figures right now, given that the actual list will very likely be out within a handful of days at most. -

Specifically, this looks just like the close-up shots of the model that've been included in the first section of the instruction manuals of UCS sets for the last couple of years. I looked through a couple manuals earlier to see if they'd used that exact table and background before, and I don't think they have; but it doesn't look like they've ever used the same table and backdrop twice, so that doesn't mean much. I agree that this is an unusual image to get as the first reveal, but I'm also inclined to think it's legit. -

It's been pretty even in the last decade, though, even though there are a lot more snowspeeders overall. There have been three landspeeders since 2010 to only two system-scale snowspeeders (although they also had the juniors version, a microfighter, and the UCS, so overall saturation is still higher, plus the inclusion of snowspeeders in larger Hoth sets). But I think the major difference is that in the movie there's only one Luke's landspeeder, so once you own one any more that come out are pretty useless, whereas even if you own every snowspeeder LEGO's ever made that still won't be as many as the dozen-ish seen in ESB. -

To be clear, George Lucas wanted the Sequel Trilogy to go into a 'microbiotic world' to cover the cellular-level details of how the Force works in excruciating detail. His plan was for Episode IX to be set inside a midichlorian. Disney handled the whole thing extraordinarily badly (in my opinion, which I have been saying since way back in 2014 or whenever it was first announced, everybody involved in the decisionmaking process should have been fired immediately as soon as they announced that they had decided to wing it movie by movie instead of having a plan for the trilogy--who could possibly have predicted that that would lead to the movies being disjointed and lacking any kind of overall arc or consistent plot threads???), but listening to Lucas was emphatically not the solution, LMAO. The Marvel movies that we have are bad, but at least watchable; everything Lucas has said about his plans for the trilogy make it sound like it would've been a nine-hour surrealist nightmare. Completely unrelated to that, there are pictures out of the Sword of Gryffindor, which I suppose is going to be in one of the upcoming Harry Potter sets (I don't follow that line closely enough to know which one). It's a new piece with some relatively complicated-looking dual molding for the three rubies in the hilt. That's a bit of a new direction for LEGO, isn't it? They don't usually like to emphasize the weapons and tend not to put much detail in them. The dagger from the old Prince of Persia sets was similar, but this is the first dual-molded weapon in at least a decade, as far as I know. It gives me hope that Star Wars might see the same treatment at some point, especially for some of the First Order blasters and whatnot that should be roughly 50/50 white and black and would really benefit from being molded in two colors rather than the old black blasters they've been using since 2007. -

There has never, at any point, been any correlation between figures appearing in LEGO’s digital media and appearing in sets. People used to say that when LEGO included new models for various animals in their games, too, and there was never any merit to that either. -

Well, OK, saying they changed the whole build was a bit of an exaggeration, LOL. But they added about twenty parts, so it definitely constitutes a proper re-engineering of the bottom section of the set. You can get an idea of the changes from the Bricklink inventory; the pieces listed as 'alternate items' and flagged with #99 are the ones in the redesigned version. The instructions available from LEGO's customer service site are for the redesigned version, which caused me a great deal of consternation when I was trying to rebuild my set before I realized why I didn't have as many pieces as I needed. I don't know if there's a PDF of the original version instruction manual available anywhere--if you want one and can't find it, message me and I'll scan mine. -

In 7261 Clone Turbo Tank they switched up the minifigs much more substantially, replacing light-up Windu with the regular version and adding another clone; and in 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer they changed the whole build to strengthen the bottom of the ship midway through the production run (without changing the box, so AFAIK there’s no way to know which one you have without opening it and checking the instructions). There are probably other examples of minor changes, but those are the two most substantial that I know of where the set continued under the same number.
