Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Not to continue the minifigure-on-box debate, but the Wanda figure on the Gargantos box wasn't the one from the Sanctum. It was the CMF one, which "proved" to people (like me) that LEGO wouldn't be making a new figure of her. And yet we got one anyway! I don't expect a second Quantumania set since only Civil War, Endgame, and now NWH have gotten after-the-fact spoiler sets that primarily centered on hidden characters, and Quantumania doesn't seem to have any spoiler characters in the movie. I do like the build more than I expected, although I was already a fan of these buildable figures to begin with. The Wasp nanofig looks great but I agree it should've been a new mold with wings that LEGO could repurpose as a fairy in other themes. It looks like all the decorations on the build are printed too, which is also nice to see! I honestly think this would be a perfect set for the movie if it included minifigures. I don't even need a new Ant-Man. If we got Wasp, Cassie, and Kang with his Time Chair or MODOK as a side build for $15 more I don't think there'd be so many complaints. It's just baffling that LEGO wouldn't throw a few figures in here. -

Wow, these sets definitely sound like a mixed bag. I liked the buildable Spider-Man figures, but I don't think it works for non-helmeted humans. Wolverine might look cool but I don't think Cap will. Ant-Man getting one of those instead of a proper Giant-Man remake is extremely disappointing. I would've killed for a $60 buildable Giant-Man in the Harry/Hermione style from 2021, especially if it included Wasp, Cassie, Kang, and MODOK. That would be the perfect Quantumania set. Hopefully there's a secret second one coming or the set includes at least three minifigures, because if not it could be the most disappointing MCU set to date. The NWH battle sounds amazing! 9 minifigures for $100?! I'm expecting a small-ish build for the price but hopefully standout figures. LEGO cannot skimp on leg printing here like they always do in other Marvel sets. I don't care too much about Lizard so I'm not that bothered by his absence, but definitely would've preferred him over Ned or even Doctor Strange. Not sure why everyone is so surprised at the price for Cap's shield. Of course it's $200 and 3,000 pieces - how else would LEGO make it look good enough to display? Thor's Hammer was a $100 set, if the shield was done at that price point it would be the size of a dinner plate. I'm hoping this is life-size (or close) to match with the hammer and it'll include wall hanger pieces for display. Very excited for it since it's a no-brainer buildable object for Marvel! Venmized Groot is weird. I know Hot Toys made one but why would LEGO? Did the other Groot set sell well enough to warrant this? I didn't like that one very much and while I think Venomized characters are cool, it seems like a useless set. Cap and Black Widow sounds great, I love the Batman and Catwoman motorcycle set from 2021 so I'm expecting good things here too. Hopefully Cap is in his stealth suit and we're getting a Winter Soldier-era Natasha. After all the sets we got in 2022, I'm actually glad we aren't getting so many this year. It's nice to have a little breather. I just wish the MCU would recognize that too! -

Honestly I'd be pretty happy if the Quantumania build is Giant-Man and Kang's Time Chair with minifigures of Wasp, Cassie, and Kang. I think we're overdue for an update Giant-Man anyway, although he could come in an Infinity Saga set too. -

I almost forgot about the Star-Lord helmet in all this X-Mansion excitement! I like the build more than I expected. It's very clean and looks great for the most part, but I think the empty head is just weird. I definitely would've preferred brick-built hair on top. Yeah it would look like Star-Lord's severed head, but LEGO already sells two severed heads with the Venom and Carnage "helmets". The pencil pot feature doesn't add much since these are meant to be display pieces. And don't get me started on the price. I was thinking $60 was a bit too much but I'd still pay it, but when I saw $80 my eyes bugged out of my head. This is already a frontrunner for the most overpriced 2023 LEGO set. I'll only buy it if it drops below $60. Still not sure what LEGO is thinking with these crazy prices. At least for Star Wars it makes sense, but is Star-Lord really popular enough to sell a bunch of overpriced helmets? -

Ouch, I don't like the look of that X-Mansion. It's okay but certainly not what I would expect from a $300 Marvel set in the age of the Daily Bugle and Sanctum Sanctorum. The exterior seems very plain and I think it's too wide. I'd prefer a little less width and more height instead. This honestly looks like a prototype designed in 2012-2014 given the basic detailing on the facade and the gate that reminds me of the 2013 Arkham Asylum. -

I'm so happy to see LEGO LOTR return! I definitely expected a microscale Rivendell. Given how much I love the 2018 Hogwarts Castle, I'm tempted to say I would have preferred a micro one, but I'm not sure that's true. I'm blown away by the detail and design already and that's just from a blurry leak. I'm impressed that LEGO went all-out and did a minifigure scale set with tons of new figures, but I do think it looks expensive for $500. I can't wait to see official pictures though because I'm sure there's more going on than we can see here. Barad-dûr looks incredible as well and I really hope it's released next year. I need a companion to Orthanc! That set would be a dream come true. -

I like the Adam Warlock figure! I'm glad it's so detailed. Arm printing would've made it perfect but I think the bigger issue is how gold the torso is. The movie arms seem to be a mix of red and gold and since he'll have a red cape in the movie, I think LEGO should've just made the arms solid red instead of solid gold. And he should have gold hands instead of red ones. I might try to make that change when I get the figure but I love it overall! -

I always look at people trashing the Blackbird set from 2014 and cry a little because that's one of my favorite Marvel sets ever! It had plenty of usable interior space, accessory storage, good play features, and great exclusive minifigures. I didn't love the Sentinel build but the ship itself is a near-perfect toy for that scale. A UCS-style Sentinel would be interesting but I'd definitely prefer Galactus first. Honestly, I'd just kill for more large-scale buildable figures done in the same style as Giant Man or the Harry and Hermione set from 2021. -

I liked all the What If...? figures in Series 1 but I don't think we needed 5 of them and LEGO made some weird choices. I get that they wanted Gamora to go with the Sakaarian Hulkbuster, but we didn't really need her, Zombie Cap, or Spidey. Spidey is an amazing figure but Doctor Strange Supreme and Infinity Ultron would have been much better picks based on the show itself. So if we get a bunch more figures for Season 2 I hope they're more relevant to the actual series. -

Yep, that's how they work. I've only been buying these 6-pack boxes lately and you're basically guaranteed 6 unique figures per box. I've never had a duplicate in the same box and I've bought probably 20 of these in total over the past two years. As far as I can tell there's two or three different distributions of figures across the boxes. If you're lucky you'll get the first 6 figures of a series in one box and the second 6 in another box. -

Super excited for Series 2 but we're gonna be missing major characters either way. The only figure I need to see here is Ms. Marvel. She's got one of the best costumes in the entire MCU and the one she's wearing in The Marvels is a bit of an eyesore (just based on set pictures) so I really hope we get her standard superhero outfit in this CMF series. I think Ironheart and Daredevil are pretty much locks as well, so here's what I'm expecting. 1. Hawkeye (Clint Barton) 2. Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) 3. Moon Knight 4. Mr. Knight 5. Ms. Marvel 6. She-Hulk 7. Daredevil 8. Werewolf By Night 9. Nick Fury 10. Loki 11. Ironheart 12. Captain Carter I don't think LEGO will look ahead to shows like Agatha even though she desperately needs a CMF-quality figure. Personally, I don't need another boring minifigure of Loki in a generic suit so I hope LEGO skips him, but I doubt they will because the show is so popular. I also think What If S2 could be skipped. I liked the Series 1 minifigs and Season 2 sounds interesting but I don't need non-canon characters taking up half of a CMF series again when we're missing so many other Disney+ figures. I'd be ok with LEGO skipping Werewolf By Night as well but continuing to get something from each MCU project would be nice. In my dream scenario LEGO skips Loki S2 and What If S2 and gives us Agatha and two Ironheart minifigures, but I know that'll never happen. I do think Ironheart could get a set though. LEGO loves their Iron Man figures (and related characters) and Riri is coming off the success of Wakanda Forever. They could test the waters with a small $15-20 set with minifigs of Ironheart and the Hood. -

Just saw, pretty happy but would've preferred 30% off. I think I'll bite at this price. Can't build it until late January anyway so if I find a better price I can always return it. I think it's really embarrassing for LEGO that all these D2Cs have to be price slashed after less than two months to move more inventory. Hopefully sets are better priced in 2023 and 2024. -

With Table Football hitting 30% off after not even two months, I really hope the Hulkbuster follows suit in January. Even with how much I hate parts of the design it's a no-brainer purchase at $400 or less given the sheer size and compatibility with the Iron Man Figure. I'd also be really interested in seeing a modification! -

I like the sticker option on the Quinjet. The Avengers logos look cartoony so I'm glad we have the S.H.I.E.L.D. option. As for the Bowie, I'm actually worried about that set. It's definitely a unique design but with the four-sided wings I'm afraid we'll end up with a 4-seater cockpit maximum and no other interior space at all. I hope it can at least fit all the Guardians, but I'm keeping my expectations low. -

The Ninjago elbow/knee pieces really drag the mechs down. They look okay and I'm glad Thanos comes with a complete Gauntlet, but they're the least interesting out of all the $10 mechs LEGO has made since 2020. A new minifigure Hulk is cool but Thanos is nothing special. Rocket is nice but I find it very odd that he gets a mech over characters like Captain Marvel, Black Widow, or even Star-Lord if we're just focusing on the Guardians. Heck, where's our War Machine mech?? -

I love the Hulkbuster - the design is way better than I was expecting! Minifigures are just okay, Okoye is better than the Wakanda Forever minifigure but she still needs leg printing. For $50 I would've expected another figure, like Proxima Midnight or Corvus Glaive. The Quinjet looks cool but from some angles it looks very blocky to me. I love the cockpit design but not the trans-blue color of the windshield. I like that a stand is included though and it seems to have a big interior. Updated minifigures look good and I LOVE the captured face for Loki! The Miles set actually looks like a decent build but the Ghost Rider one is a huge letdown. I hate the locked joints that the Ninjago core sets introduced. They feel like cheap, Juniors-style pieces which works well in a 6+ set but not in anything else, IMO. It really downgrades these mechs and if every one is using that piece I'm gonna be really annoyed since the mechs were already pretty perfect builds with plenty of articulation. -

Pictures of Funko's next No Way Home wave are circulating online... maybe we will actually get some LEGO sets next year. I hope we do. I don't think it's too late and Spider-Man will always sell regardless, so I hope LEGO has something coming. -

Huh? Printing never extends up that far into the legs because otherwise it would get scratched off by the constant movement, wouldn't it? LEGO has never printed legs that far up (as far as I know), it's not like they were purposefully cutting corners with Namor. -

If the sales figures are bad enough for $350 sets to be part of a 5x double VIP promotion after less than two months, I think we'll see the effects as early as late 2023. LEGO could just stop development on theoretical 2025 D2Cs and spread out the releases of currently developed models. As in, if 25 $200+ D2Cs were planned for 2023, LEGO could only release 15-20 and push some into 2024. 2022 has been absolutely insane for these huge display pieces so I think this year will be the peak. At least, I hope so. -

I have a feeling that's the case. I think we'll see a decrease in gigantic D2Cs in 2024 if not 2023 since a few of them don't seem to be selling well at all. -

Never thought I'd see the day where a D2C gets 5x VIP points. Wish I had waited on buying it then. If the Hulkbuster gets the same treatment over Black Friday I'd probably pull the trigger on it. -

The DC thing is a good point. In this interview they make it seem like there's no DC sets because there are no movies. That's understandable (to a degree) because movies keep these franchises relevant in consumers' eyes, but DC got two non-Batman movies this year! It's not like I wanted SuperPets or Black Adam sets, but the content was there for LEGO to make more sets. Also, what about our annual DC D2C? I was really enjoying the big display models from 2019-2021. I'd buy a UCS 1966 Batmobile in a heartbeat and I've never even seen the series. That seems like a no-brainer set to me, or even more Dark Knight Trilogy sets after how popular last year's minifigure-scale Tumbler was. It feels more like the designers have given up because sets weren't selling well, but if that's the case LEGO should be trying something new instead of throwing in the towel. -

I don't really blame Mark Stafford for his comments. What is he going to say? Designers have restrictions and they get PR training. LEGO wouldn't let him say anything that would reflect negatively on them, so of course these interviews are blaming everything on COVID and uncertainty/disconnection during the pandemic. I think the truth is that the designers had enough on their plate between the 18+ push and the issues caused by COVID. So I can believe the anniversary falling through the cracks but I don't think they outright forgot, I think it simply wasn't a priority in 2020. By the time everything settled down it was probably too late to do any anniversary sets without totally phoning them in. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

The movie was excellent IMO, one of Marvel's best by far and the sets were surprisingly relevant. I love the Sunbird set but it's the wrong color and the wings splay open in the movie which I think could have been executed in the set. War on the Water is still a bust for me. The ship isn't anything special in the film but LEGO could have gotten creative. I think we sorely needed Namora and Ramonda figures at the very least. I would have preferred a big Wakandan throne room set over War on the Water, but I totally understand why LEGO made that ship instead. I'm just missing a location-based Wakanda set, I feel like we should have gotten a proper one by now instead of little builds scattered in small sets. I loved the wall from Infinity War but it's not based on anything in the actual movies, and I think it's high time we got the iconic throne room or Mount Bashenga. I know LEGO didn't want to go this route so it was never a possibility, but I would have preferred a Mount Bashenga D2C with a giant black panther statue and a full recreation of Shuri's lab instead of the Black Panther bust. It would still be an iconic Wakandan display piece and could have included figures from both the first and second movies.
