I talked to lego S@H and learned some stuff
Buddha Bricks replied to Carefree_Dude's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I hope i'm no too off topic here. Wondering if someone tried changing the pack with a "rc and/or airgun" lipo charger. The one i have has multiple option for charging nimh/nicd/lipo/life batteries, and also will let me chose the amps output. I think this may be a nice alternative. Another thing, I allways make sure to balance the lipos i use for RCing so that both cells are at 3.7v (well technicly 4.2v) as i've been told this helps preserve the battery life, but i don't think that the lego charger has that option... right? To do so it would need a wire going to both cells and a microchip for controling the balance. Any feedback anyone? -

Hi kinght, welcome to eurobricks! I've been hanging a around here for a few weeks and can say this is the best lego forums i found yet. Enjoy! By the way, Thailand seems like a marvelous place. I'm hopping to travel there in the future for a long retreat in a theravada monastery. Cheers!

Powering Enlighten Trains: RC or PF ?
Buddha Bricks replied to Buddha Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Here on eurobricks? Nooo that's impossible... In all regards, being for or againts bootlegs, we can't ignore the fact that the original conceptions come those minds in Denmark. I'm pretty sure we all love TLG for the same reasons. -

Powering Enlighten Trains: RC or PF ?
Buddha Bricks replied to Buddha Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Considering the price, i can get over the colors and overall look, it's the clutch power I'm concerned about. Anyhow, you can be sure that i will share my comments once the boys and i played with them for a while (some time after Xmas). The whole lot listed above i got from ebay for under 120USD shipping included. This makes 2 large trains and lots of track. I suppose the kids will play with them for at least 10 years (they are 3 and 4 year olds) so prolly won't resale ether. Assuming i will invest in PF for both trains, the total cost will be over 250$, so it's somewhat of a risk I'm taking. And on the subject of bootlegs, i did get the chance to try out a small KAZI set. The bricks where ok i guess, though one cracked, but the real turnoff was the quality of the minifigs. Arms and hands fell off so i ended up keeping only the head and legs a spares, trashed the torso and hands. But i read that Enlighten minifigs are of better quality... let's hope, as i'm not sure my atlantis scuba divers will make good train conductors -
Let hope so... Another good option would be the battery box with nimh rechargeables yet it seems fairly larger and looks clumsy too. Am i right ?

Now all this brings up more questions about the battery pack. The pack is a lipo 7.4v, the same type and voltage as i use for my RC cars. But obviously, the batteries i use for RCing don't have an integrated regulator... This is an example of a LiPo for RC cars. As you know the LEGO lipo batt is quite expensive, so how hard (or easy) would it be to rig these to fit with the LEGO plugs. Also i use a IMAX B6-AC to change and balance lipo cells, has anyone ever hooked-up a LEGO lipo pack to a standard lipo charger ? I guess the balancer circuit needs to be plugged also. If anyone knows how to achieve this please share your experiences. Thanks

I didn't know. Now that's a kewl feature TLG!

Powering Enlighten Trains: RC or PF ?
Buddha Bricks replied to Buddha Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So i'm guessing then that these models are direct copies of kits that LEGO sold in the past. Could someone tell me what LEGO train these 2 are copied from : Enlighten Train Series :0627 Enlighten Steam Enlighten Train Series :0638 Steam Freight Locomotive You are totally right! -
I have not yet found the answer to this question, so here it is (quick question). Using PF to motorize a train, if i don't want to use the IR remote, would it be possible to use only motor+battery with a on/off switch ? Thanks!

I'm hoping someone here knows these products and could me out. I've ordered those lego knockoffs from SK (please don't shoot... i'm unarmed). I have yet to receive them but the total sets make 2 fairly large trains and a good length of track. Now i'm wondering how i will motorize them. I'm new to the whole train scene so i don't know much about this, but one thing i know is that i don't want to go with the old 9v system as i don't want to go through the trouble of sticking aluminium tape all the way along the tacks. My remaining options are RC which is discontinued or Power Functions. But for starters, if anyone can tell me, are theses motor compatible with what i purchased? And if so, what are the advantages of one and other, function-wise and cost-wise ? Do both the systems necessarily use IR or can't i just hookup a motor base and switch ? Normally would i put a motor on the front locomotive only or on every waggon also? I've listed the sets my boys will be receiving for xmas (if i can keep them hidden away till them), so it could give an idea. Enlighten Train Series :0627 Enlighten Steam Enlighten Train Series :0628 Enlighten Passenger Car (X2) Enlighten Train Series :0638 Steam Freight Locomotive Enlighten Train Series :0633 Mine Car Enlighten Train Series :0634 Tank Car Enlighten Train Series :0635 Timber Car Enlighten Train Series :0636 Dining Car Enlighten Train Series :0637 Freight Car Enlighten Train Series :0639 Track (X2) Enlighten Train Series :0640 Convert The Track (X2) I found a whole lot of pics on flickr. Thanks amandojames! One on the engines for xmas : The other one. Here is a lego train beside an enlighten train which is which ?

Matt here from Sherbrooke Québec. I come to eurobricks as this seems to be a forum with good reviews and great community. It's a great pass time to play construction toys with both my 3 and 4 yr olds. When i bring home a new construction set I'm actually (secretly) as excited as they... if not more. To see how they developed motor skills, logic and patience at such a young age, it makes me wonder why my parents didn't get me heaps of Lego's instead of all those G.I Joe's and He-Men. (hihi Skelletor was da bomb!) Anyhow so I'm into both megabloks and lego. I'm also a enlighten bricks enthusiast. These days I'm pretty much interested in train sets thinking this would be a great activity for the boys and me. So I have tons of questions about motorizing and components which I'll be posting in the forums later. Now let's build!
