Hmm good point. I had forgotten what those ships looked like. Someone on another forum told me the ship I pointed out was probably the scrapped Flying Dutchman...

I found some possible 2013 "Lego Pirate" news... this: http://www.brickshop....html?Itemid=56 Obviously its not Pirate themed, but it is a pirate ship, and for that I'm excited. Maybe its the ship seen here http://ow.ly/i/HJQX/original in the middle of the page slightly to the left. (After the Atlantis display but before the Buzz and Woody) As for this I think he could be referring to a revival of the LEGO LEGENDS line? http://www.brickshop.nl/lego/legends.html

Well with rumors circulating around the net that Ninjago will be discontinued in 2013, possibly meaning no Ninjago vs Pirate sets, and with pictures of the new theme "Legends of Chima" falling short ( I thought this theme could have had some Conquistador/pirate/islander tie-ins but I guess not), I'm at a scramble to get anything in production now that could be used for pirates! One set that caught my eye a while ago was the Ninjago Destiny's Bounty. It has sails, and looks like a ship, but I can't for the life of me see any practical application of this set. Has anyone made this transition successfully? I'd like to see pictures of any modifications made that make this ship look more like a pirate ship, or successful uses of its pieces, or even outfitting it with a believable crew that would fit with the pirates theme. Any help?? Thanks!

I'm surprised the Shako didn't make it onto the list, I thought that was one of the most sought after Lego Pirate pieces.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion

Damn, so the "trader" is probably like a stock trader, because when I had firefox translate that site it said "businessman" -
Is anyone else disappointed with this set? I just recently bought it and I'm not a huge SW collector so this is one of the few SW sets I actually bought. Well judging by pictures of old star wars X-wings and this one, I can tell this one is much better in detail and accuracy. However, I can't stand the fact that the droid sits sideways not straight on. I really want to mod it to make it right but don't have much experience with this and wondering if anyone has tried this or feels the same way? As I side note, I also don't like the rubber band system in the back, makes me not want to display it in attack mode .

Might I suggest using fabric rather than paper for the sails. This is just purely from a spectators point of view however, as I have never attempted to make my own sails or create a MOC pirate ship either (I intend to someday ) Nevertheless I read an blog one day about creating custom LEGO capes (if your really want/need it let me know I'll dig it up) and the author suggested using BROADCLOTH, a type of fabric found at fabric stores. Judging by the pictures it looks really similar to the real thing, and I'm sure the LEGO capes are made of the same material that the sails are.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
yys4u replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I somewhat agree that I wish there were more to the pirates. I too was really hoping for something NEW like new molded weapons or something. And was also hoping for something other than a pirate captain since (like others said) we have so many of them. But regardless the figure looks amazing and I'll definitely be buying as many as possible for interesting torso and just cause I'm a huge pirates fan! -
I like the new figure head, reminds me of the Normandy from Mass Effect for some reason. Never liked the original figure head, I don't know what its supposed to be, looks like a duck. The steering wheel/rudder combination is sweet. But I agree with above, I'm not sold on the colors, but the only thing that bugs me about the color is the railing on the back, I think "lizard" when i see it. Great job nonetheless!

I've been wondering the same thing, I have a bunch of small row boats and always thought it'd be a nice way to start MOCing. Basically using the row boats as a small canvas to start MOCing nice and slow with small projects. I haven't found much either, so I appreciate this thread, but I did find this which I thought was interesting. http://www.classic-pirates.com/sets/alternate-sets-lego-idea-books.html

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

I would think the best way to do this is for someone to put up an incredible MOC on CUUSOO, that way we as a community could all vote for it, and that would serve to show TLG that there is still a huge interest for LEGO Pirates and there is still a loyal fan base who would purchase the products. Only problem is there has so far only been 1 non-licensed set to pass the CUUSOO 10,000 vote mark (the modular western town) and that took FOREVER to get votes, even with the support of nearly every fan based LEGO website, and there are a number of amazing pirate ship MOCS on CUUSOO such as the http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/2372 and there doesn't seem to be much support for it as it is.. -
I know I'm reviving this old thread for a 2nd time, but I'm still researching how to properly clean and straighten sails. I'm constantly referencing this thread and this comment always caught my attention because I have suspected the same thing, that sometimes when I soak the sails, they don't come back as stiff. I was reminded of this with the sails from my Red Beard Runner. I didn't really want to wash them because they were in good condition, they had vibrant colors, were still stiff, only a couple small stains and minor wrinkles, but no creases. But I tried it anyways, I let them soak in cold water, then used a hair dryer on cold setting to dry them. Been trying to not apply any heat to avoid shrinkage and color fading. Well when they dried I notice they weren't as stiff, but they look okay, they still have some small wrinkles though. Anyways, to the point, I began researching the fabric that LEGO uses for the sails and came across this page http://www.minifigcustoms.com/node/5395 They author talks about capes, but I think they use the same fabric for sails. He mentions using "artist's acrylic matte medium" on the fabric to prevent fraying and mentions that they become stiffer. I think I'm going to try and buy some of this medium and apply it to my BSB sails (as they are in the worst condition of my collection and have become my test dummies).Hopefully this works well so I can finally not be afraid of ironing out all the tough wrinkles and creases on my sails and then apply this medium to stiffen them up again. I've tried using starch, but I had to use A LOT to make it noticeably stiffer, and while the sails hang really nice, you can really feel the difference when you touch them and I don't like it.

The person on the Brickset forum who I first heard about the FD from was also correct about a couple other rumored sets. Like the haunted house and chrome protocol droid. However I do recall him mentioning in a post that they are no longer doing a flying dutchman. -
Yup he's from China. Which is strange because as mentioned, usually only new molded pieces come from china, where as the actual figure like the legs and torso and head come from their Denmark facility. I don't know of any Davy Jones figure being made in Denmark though. A quick way to tell if your fig is from China is to bend them forward at the waist and check the newly exposed part of the back of the leg. If there is a square around a molding injection point, its chinese. If there is just a small dot from injection, its regular stuff. Now a days a lot of figs do come from china though. CMF, battle packs, spinners. Pretty much if a set isn't in a normal lego BOX, it's plastic (Edit: Meant to say Denmark stuff sorry)stuff. This was a rare exception that had a bunch of people heated...including me, I hate Chinese figs.

That looks pretty cool! Sponge bobs hat I mean, the color for the rest looks a little off though. That is a flesh head on patricks body right? **EDIT** Looking at it again, I'm not so sure its the color that's off, I think it's that there is an old mans face on what should be a young man, or even a child's body haha

^ Hah me too! I've been waiting for pirates in Collectible Minifigure Series since I heard about series 1. I bought a pack and looked at the little poster hoping to see a pirate, and have done so for every series, as soon as pictures surface I check to see if there's any pirate related stuff. Hopefully someday soon... -
Rumors and speculation: Haunted House Modular
yys4u replied to forumreader's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
True, I'm not necessarily convinced its a modular building too. But it could be something alone the lines of the market street? Not OFFICIALLY a modular building but can still connect with them? It seems out of place which ever way you put it, out of place for modulars, too grand a scale for Monster Fighters, doesn't really match the MO for seasonal sets. Either way it looks really cool and I'll probably be buying it pending the price. -

I may be able to add some credibility to the Flying Dutchman rumors, although they are a bit of a stretch. A member on Brickset forums, (don't know if he's on this forum or not) told us over there that there would be a large Flying Dutchman set and then later said there would be a huge haunted house set to fit with the Modular Buildings. Well both these claims seemed far fetched but he insisted he had a "source" that has been right about these things in the past. Well a video was posted today, the press release for the New Modular Building the Town Hall, and in the first 2 seconds of the video you can see a designer and a huge haunted house on the edge of the screen. (In an earlier shot you can see another designer and the rumored upcoming UCS R2D2). Sorry I'd post a link, but from when I saw the video till half way through writing this, it's been marked as private.... So to the point, if this person was right about 1 of 2 of his rumors, maybe he was also telling the truth about the Flying Dutchman? So I know its a stretch, but I was so surprised to see LEGO pull this huge Haunted House out of no where, that there could be some validation the the claims. **EDIT** It seems eurobricks has already begun discussion on the Haunted House so I was able to find a picture on this thread http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=66366 -
If you make instructions I'll go on bricklink and buy those pieces right now.

Every report I've seen said PotC will exit in July. That means discontinued. Sure there's still several months for them to release a flying Dutchman, but they wouldn't release something only to have it sit on the shelves for a couple months, then take it down. Doesn't make sense. Especially something on a scale as these rumors have been suggesting. It would make no sense to release an expensive UCS set for only 6 months. Even though they will exit in July, I feel pretty strongly that they will make a return when the next movie is released. When the 4th film was being made, I heard it would be part of a new trilogy, and since LEGO already has the license for it, I don't see any reason why more sets won't follow with the coming movies. And who says the Flying Dutchman won't be in the next movies?? Will Turner became captain, and he might make a return in future movies. It's not like the ship was destroyed. Even if the ships not in the new films, whats to stop them from making sets from the original trilogy? Same thing just happened with this wave. A 4th films was released, sets were released, many of them from the original trilogy. The first 3 movies have become iconic enough that they can release sets from them regardless of what current movie is in theaters. Basically, if reports about a Flying Dutchman are true, I'd put my money on it being released when a new movie is released and with a new wave of sets. -

Yea definitely means Harry Potter, PotC are going out as in Discontinued. The other ones will not have new sets but will still be on the shelves for some time. At least we get a good timeline of when to get the sets before they're gone.
