Displaying technic lego
Benly replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe have them set in a sort of messy disorganised fashion? This is what I have in my room, though it's getting a little too messy from a lack OF room. The cubes were bought from Kmart (Australia). It's nothing on Blakbird's collection/display though. -
REVIEW: 8265 Wheel Loader

The worm gear might be used for the grappling claw of the B model. -
Models for 2H of 2011
Benly replied to menad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, these models look great! For the unimog, PF + pneumatics = compressor maybe?? -
I just finished building this set not too long ago and it really is a magnificent set. Sure it might be fairly simple in terms of complexity and not breaking any new grounds as far as Technic goes, but I think it's a really well balanced set. The main things I like about it are; - Well detailed for the Technic line, particularly the front grill and the cab region. Despite Technic coming a long way in aesthetics, I think the 8285 sits right up there. - Inclusion of double rear wheels. It's not much, but it certainly adds to the truck's appeal - It has a fair amount of Technic goodies with all the rear implements operable in some way or form. - Fairly rigid for a studless build of this size and wheelbase length. - It sits very nicely next to the 8258 Crane Truck - 2 x 32L Technic chopsticks! All in all, I really like this set and if you're pondering over whether or not to get one on Bricklink/eBay, I highly recommend you do. =D Hopefully these pictures turn out OK. First time posting pictures in a post, so please be nice. I don't have a brickshelf account, so I hope a direct link to imageshack is OK.

Drag bike
Benly replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like how you designed the steering connecting joints using two of the universal connectors (I think that's what they're called). It gives the flexibility required without needing to use ball joints. =D -
It looks really nice! Maybe make some sort of trailer if you have the parts and time. I'm curious to know if that's front suspension I see or just what seems to be double wishbone and a shock?

Whilst you're on the topic of Lego bios, it appears all the internal people involved with Lego Technic have updated their profile images. I kinda like these small bios as it lets you put a face behind particular models that you build. One thing I do note is the missing bio of Anders Gaasedal Christensen (Goose Valley) which was there a few days ago. Surely he hasn't moved on as well, not right after he's done the 8043?

I look forward to the Leopard 2!. It looks fantastic!. I was beginning to wonder when we might see a new LEGO model up on your website. =D I believe this is constantly stated, but I like how your models incorporate aesthetics AND function with quite little compromise (if any at all). They look the deal and work the deal. It's always enjoyable to read and watch the reports that you make.

8448 Useless Trivia
Benly replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hahaha. I had a sinking suspicion that was going to be the case for the 8466 as well, but looking at my model I thought, nah... it looks centered, but surely the 8448 was a one off lucky case -
8448 Useless Trivia
Benly replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Haha. Or make it into the million dollar question on "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" Q: In which official 'LEGO Technic' set is the gearstick the centre of geometric rotation when the model is rotated about the Y axis? A: 8880 Super Car C: 8466 4X4 Off-Roader B: 8448 Super Street Sensation D: 8480 Space Shuttle tick.. tick.. tick.. -

That's fantastic! =D I can see how you noticed it when making the gif though. That gear stick sticks out like a sore thumb. -
Wow, $250 is quite the bargain. You'd be hard pressed to get a used one for that amount. A wanted list is more or less just a shopping list. Sellers won't contact you to offer a quote. What a wanted list can do is organise the items that you want and then produce a list of shops which can best accommodate your needs based on how many items they have that you want. The shopping is still all done by you, and a bit clunky at the best of times. Shipping's always a pain for us Aussies though =(

Ferrari Technic models
Benly replied to squizz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What about the 8674 F1 Ferrari? I personally like that one more than the others. But between the two that you've mentioned, it'd have to be the Enzo. -
G'day mate You nabbed TWO 8421's?!? Would you mind me asking how much those set you back? Just this morning I managed to get all the parts for Hans' creation up onto a BrickLink wanted list. However, a very quick shop search shows that it isn't exactly cheap. Just from the quick search I did, I think it'll come up at well over $1000 AUD for new parts. I haven't done a search for used parts however.

No sooner said than done except for a few decorative pieces I couldn't find for the life of me. I might leave the actual buying till later on however. 391 different lots!!! BrickStore made it much easier except for it constantly not being able to find 3x5 Liftarms or Beam 13's. At some point it couldn't find a dozen friction pins. Thanks again! =D
-
Hmm, that's OK actually. I was worried it might start hitting the thousand mark. It looks like quite some hours are going to be wasted getting the parts from Bricklink. I tried Brickstore's import from MLCAD files last night, and it appears to have trouble with a few part numbers, though probably a failure on my part rather than the programs. Well I probably would have a couple of dozen friction pins
-
Well you'll end up with a good boost to your feedback rating as a small consolation Squizz, if you do plan on buying the parts all from scratch, do me a favour and get two lots will ya? Except when stuff gets caught in customs... 2 Weeks since boarding a plane* and still yet to arrive in Australia. *a plane is assumed. It may have boarded a rowboat.

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Benly replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Please tell me this is going to be a trend to all the major Myer centres. That's the grandest display of Lego at a store I've seen! On your flickr, that virtual scan-and-see-3D-projection is very cool!! -
A question to the more experienced LEGO builders, Given that this has a piece count of about 3700 (>500 owing to friction pins however), roughly how much would it cost to source parts from Bricklink? I have a pretty decent collection of Technic sets, but I like to keep them built so loose parts are a bit rare in my collection.. Also, would there be a quick and easy way to import the parts into a wanted list on Bricklink?
