Please excuse the pirated pictures, my camera was being insubordinate when I was writing this. Set name: Mini Tractor Set number: 8281 Line: Technic Piece count: 121 Recommended ages: 7-13 Suggested price: $10.00 Year released: 2006 THE BOX The most superficial part of any LEGO product, but the one that often determines whether or not the set is a success or failure. When I got my first look at the box I was stunned at how crowded it was. Between the white text on the left of the box, tan seal and gears on the bottom right, boxes which show that gears rotate when the model is moved along the ground, logos on the top, and a picture of the actual set itself. Lego could have left off the tan seal and the icon that indicates the set includes two instruction booklets as to make it seem less jumbled. The back of the box isn

The Hordika were awesome. They introduced the Hordika brain/head/thing, those great shaped feet, and some immensely useful legs, plus the masks make good shoulder armor.

Mahri- Eww, if I was a MOCist I don't think I'd buy any of these. They're lopsided and strangely colored, and the bulky tubes don't do much for their appearance. ------------------------------------------------ Titans- I had some hope for these when I saw the first pictures on Brickshelf, it's gone. Hydraxon- This basically looks like a bolstered version of the Mahri, I wouldn't expect his to go for more than fifteen dollars, though apparently it's twenty. Max & Spi - Max makes me cry, I was hoping for gun metal, not bley. Spi doesn't appear that great either due to the randomly green-tipped spines. Gadunka - A large ugly blob of blue pieces. ---------------------------------------------------- I've lost my respect for the designers of these sets entirely.

Ok, I've searched through the first couple pages of this forum and found nothing on what "karma" and "the chamber" are. Could someone fill me in before I do something less than intelligent? Thanks in advance.

WTF, check the left sidebar on this page. -
You forgot to unmercifully flame the designers on the lack of a lower jaw.

Building a Future - One Parents Concern
Shine replied to johnsocal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've seen lots of topics like this on other sites, and quite frankly they're beginning to annoy me. First of all, whatever your childhood memories of Lego may entail you've got to grow up and except that all companies are out to make a profit, not enrich children's minds. That being said- Lego will produce whatever themes they deem profitable, and as you stated in your post- These devices point children towards more mature themes, meaning that in order for a toy to even register on their "cooldar" said toy must be similar to the media that they receive off of the technology. Have you ever seen a movie in which the humans are allied with the aliens immediately, if ever? In most movies there is some sort of conflict between two different parties, the difference can be race, religious beliefs, government, or something other. The difference leads up to what children interpret as "good" and "evil". Now think about Mars Mission, the two parties differ in race, skin color, and shape, forcing the children to associate the group closer to them as "good". This then creates a conflict which may be similar to the ones that they are exposed to on television and the internet, making them affiliate these toys, where there is a conflict with the technology that they already find captivating. Since children like this kind of toy, companies will keep producing them in order to make money. The only thing that will negate this cycle is the media changing, which it won't for some some yet. -
