Thanks. Unfortunately they only have a few gold goblets, the chests are filled with weapons, ammunition, and provisions. They do have a map. A map with a big red X marking were a ship ran aground. Maybe a treasure galleon? What is this! A hoard of headless wade into the shallows, out of the deep!

I'm working on putting a pirate crew together and so far 15 or so are done. So I decided to pose them on an island. It is still a work in progress, I have 20+ headless bodies, and two more islands to add to the chain. Along with some simple structures.

Awesome. I was just thinking that there should be more of this after seeing some of the science fiction figures on that sub-forum.

If you are look for a place to discard them, I have some pirates missing hands and heads...

I hope we do get some more PotC sets, I really like the mini figures and could use some more for my pirate crew. Also more ships would be nice.

Assembled some of my (fleshy) pirate crew and armed them. I need quite a few more good heads for the crew.

Here is my Pirate Army (WIP), the picture is not so great but I think it gets the idea across. (I think I should get a tripod or something to help stabilize my camera. Also I should use my camera but I forgot where I put that...) Scrum, Barbossa, and Blackbeard are just the minifigs from PotC the rest are are assembled from what I could find/get. I really like the PotC minifig torso/legs, and wanted to put in some more obvious diversity, so that is why they are a fleshy pirate crew.

Did some more work but am having a little trouble getting some parts, so still the color grey is not present and the ship is too short to accommodate a 4th mast. Anyway here are some pictures of its current state:

What other pirate movie franchise could Pirate sets be based on?

I loved Hook too, but I think that the chance of LEGO sets based off of something would be much greater if the movie was in current production or theaters. -

I think that Peter Pan and Treasure Island based sets would hold the most water. Something based on Hook (maybe when Spielberg gets a chance to redo it) or the Neverland miniseries would be my first choice for Peter Pan, but there is a lot to work with. Treasure Island has a lot to work with as well. Black Sails is current but it is a bit too adult. Muppet Treasure Island LEGO could be interesting. These also have tons of stuff in written form to pull from, in addition to the film and tv versions. -
I'm having trouble with a redirect that seems to be related to a Google Ads Ad. It redirects me to some "www.lemode-mgz.com". From what I could find it is related to an ad associated with "daily-health-news.info"

The overall lack of red right now is not how I intend it to look, I just don't have enough red bricks. I want to try and frame the black with red. For instance the hull could have red as the color for all of its bricks at its highest level, as could the forecastle just below the roof. I don't know if this will fix the problem, but yeah, all black is not very good in pictures. You really need a very bright photo to get any detail and the ship is too big already for the flash on my camera to work for a full width/height shot. I looked into dark red but those bricks are a notably more expensive than black and I don't really have any dark red in my collection. There were a good number of grays in the Black Pearl so maybe I could work those in, also I could see where white would fit. A white, gray, black, and red color scheme may work better. I'll have to see what bricks I can find to play with. I doubt I can get much through bricklink before the end of the year, but that is not too long to wait (its just not fun to wait when I have this in the works). I do have the hull sections for a number of other ships (3 small with a middle section for one; and the BSB) so I could try to get to work on another ship to pass the time. Happy Holidays!

I tried to add a sail on the bowsprit, replaced the masts with classic pirates masts, as well as some other mods (its still a work in progress) to my Black Pearl. I'm having trouble figuring out how the sails on the bowsprit are best attached (and also lack enough lego rope to try much more today in that regards). Edit: Decided to start some studies in brick on the forward hull and forecastle design: Edit 2: Expanded the above and made it modular

I held a dinner for a bunch of friends and when they came over I had some LEGO pieces left out on the table (including a bin with most of my mini fig, animal, and related accessory parts) and everyone started playing with them while we waited for dinner to finish (it was wine braised ox tail, so it takes a while). Item constructed consisted of boats drawn by alligators captained by horses, and dragons with cannons mounted instead of wings. Also the day before I assembled the Black Pearl.

170B Hi. This is my first topic, and I am working on making a pirate galleon. I have a bunch of pieces (dozens of pounds) from about 1997 and earlier (including at lest some of the parts from a BSB) as well as a 99.9% complete Black Pearl (assembled). Acquiring additional pieces is possible but I would like to keep the number of orders to a minimum. Goals for my build are to have a covered gun deck, a large aft castle (up to half the ship's length, preferably two story), and notable (but smaller, one story) forecaste, and four masts (two lateen rigged). I'm using the LEGO hull sections from the Black Pearl, I want the ship to be rather durable and have good access to all decks/cabins. I plan to use red and black as the main colors. I have been working both with bricks and in LDD, but could use help in finding good reference material, such as what would a good book to use as a guide be, and what are the best threads to read up on for building a galleon. Any advice/guidance would be appreciated. Thanks. Edit: Work on the figure head. I could not find more than 1 black dragon wing but red fits the color theme. Edit 2: Figurehead on Black Pearl for some context.

Which forum does my MOC/topic belong in?
Zeev replied to Stormbringer's topic in Forum Information and Help
Thanks for the response. It look liked most of the WIP MOC were already planned out in detail, so I didn't know if there was someplace I missed that was for the more formative stages of a build. -

If I am in the process of building a MOC (a pirate ship) but it is still in a very fluid state of design where would I post it if I want feedback at an early stage? I would I post it like a more complete MOC or is there someplace that advice/brainstorming/studies go? -
When I tried to use bricklink the pictures were upside down on the webpage but when viewed directly are the correct orientation. What could cause this? I tried with multiple pictures adding and deleting. Here is a url for example: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=6199330

It would be interesting to see just how cramped the old frigate is. The 1st rate HMS Victory was pretty tight and that was a huge ship in its day (HMS Victory is much roomier). I'll have to check out the Tea Party Museum's ships, I do not think I ever have been there. I have seen them in the harbor but didn't know anything about them. As for what I come up with, I have been working on a number of things both with brick and in LDD. Mostly feasibility, scale, and aesthetic studies. So far it looks like my planned build is going to be a galleon. Thanks everyone. This is turning out to be a pretty friendly place.

The USS Constitution is in Boston, that reminds me that I wanted to see it again. I saw it as a kid, but have not been back as an adult. Though I did see the HMS Victory and HMS Warrior not too long ago. A frigate would be an attractive build, but I do not know how up to something that size I am. I think for my first serious LEGO ship MOC I will stick to more traditional LEGO style than realistic style, though I am thinking of a Red and Black color scheme. I have seen some of the resources. I have been playing with gun and mounting designs for ships in LDD and with the few bricks I had, but I managed to go pick up all my childhood bricks yesterday, there must be nearly 50 lb of bricks, but all unsorted. I must have spent 5 to 8 hours just separating useful bits and red/black bricks from the filled tubs.

Hi! I'm Benjamin from/in Boston, Massachusetts. Loved LEGO's as a kid, getting back into them now. When I was younger, in the 1990s, I was mostly in Pirate sets, with the Black Sea Barracuda being an all time favorite. Though I also had a more than a fair share of the other sets. After looking around the internet for LEGO ships, it seems that this may be the place to be to learn about building and modding. Non-LEGO interests include tea, ceramics, history, computers, and games (mostly of the table top or board verity).
