  1. Hero Factory helmets required the head joint because they wrapped all the way around the head, not because they used an axle connection. Look at it this way. Compare how an old mask connection can attach to a Y-joint vs. the new one. An old mask can fit its axle into any of the three holes on a Y joint. The new mask is restricted to just the two on the sides. Off the top of my head, I can think of four unique ways to attach a Y joint to an old mask. Your mileage may vary by mask, but it seems like a good benchmark. The new mask has 2 ways it can attach, excluding swinging it at an angle: rightside up, and upside down. Even upside down is basically just rightside up swung over to the other side. Do you see what I mean? I'm not denying that there will be ways to use this piece. I have no doubt people will find ways to use it, and that it can attach to many pieces. I just don't see how this mask connection is amazingly versatile, especially compared to the old connection, which had far greater freedom in both number of pieces it could attach to and number of ways it could attach.
  2. I can't say i quite understand what would make that more versatile than the old connection, considering: it would need to be a looser connection for masks to pop off, and in that case it would probably swing about freely when attached as you say it can it can only be attached to a piece with two axle holes opposite each other, as opposed to the old connection which could fit into any axle hole, as long as it was on a narrow-enough piece it wouldn't bump into the mask at this point, the only advantages I could see to the new connection versus the old one is the return of masks knocking off, and the possibility of a face that doesn't revolve around an axle hole. I have no clue how this connection is as amazingly versatile as you're convinced it is.
  3. If it hinges, the game could be more about knocking upwards than knocking off. Honestly, though, we don't know how strong the connection is. The knight's kingdom helmets were hardly firmly attached, though I don't know how easy they were to knock off with another knight's swinging arm.
  4. I thought he was that sure of everything, whether he had physical proof or not. Certainly how I've come to know him. :P
  5. Well, it's not like LEGO's cared all that much about gender equality in Bionicle in the past :P
  6. But an axle connection for masks makes them more useful for MOCing. Also, I can't recall ever seeing complaining about using an axle connection besides constant bickering over where that axle should connect. I can't say I understand what you mean; as far as I can tell, all of the Toa have at least one geared arm. It's pretty clear to me none of them have both arms connected to the torso's ball joints, at least.
  7. Last I checked, what jaws like Cragger and the Beasts have is a click joint, not friction. A click joint is out of the question here, because there's only two little nubs. If there was a click joint, there would be two smaller nubs further in, or else a click joint wouldn't function. Now, it is possible for the things on the side to clamp tight enough to not wobble, though I'd imagine over time, constant stress from attaching and removing would push the two sides apart slightly and weaken the connection. Oddly, at that point I'd have to ask the simple of question then of "why attach it like that"? If you have something like that in place, the mask will neither be hinged to pop up nor easy to knock off, the two reasons I've seen posted for why they could be using this new attachment. So why would they bother using this new attachment if neither of those reasons would actually work? Also, if that is indeed the case, using these pieces on anything but the new head would mean the masks flop around, so they end up being pretty non-versatile in the end.
  8. I'll definitely try to get all the Toa, especially if we get Kaita again. My budget for LEGO might be a little strained by that time, though, since I have a mosaic that'll cost quite a bit to make.
  9. Are you sure he uses it in the display pic? I thought so too, but now that I look it's a little irreularly shaped; in fact, it matches the shape of the beast foot at the angle it is in the higher-res photos.
  10. It has been obnoxious. That was my point. If that sort of obnoxiousness is everywhere, I don't understand how one little reference to a different, less obnoxious joke is what he complained about.
  11. This thread has been filled with "HYPE TRAIN!!!1!" and "LOL omega tahu" surely one little Mustache Tahu isn't going to kill you
  12. but what if Funhouse Takanuva comes with Funmetal?
  13. Leftover stock from the Piraka they had to go through, perhaps? Or maybe they just wanted another play feature to draw kids in and couldn't think of anything else
  14. They were an interesting idea, but iirc, changing the batteries was either impossible or a chore. They weren't exactly designed with longevity in mind.
  15. The only time I recall seeing trans dark green used in Hero Factory was the special shells in Savage Planet. Otherwise, it's only been trans bright green and trans lime green. for a bit I was terrified trans bright green was going to replace trans lime but then the BA heads came in both and it hasn't shown any signs or replacing it. it has to be my favorite trans color so id hate to ever see it go.
  16. The conditions under which a story was written should not exempt it from criticism. Unless he was literally writing at gunpoint, I see no reason why I should not be allowed to criticize the quality of the serials.
  17. Hm. Well, I guess as long as he actually does something with his appearances I'd feel better about it. So much of the serials was just "oh hey look it's Vezon acting wacky again. isn't it funny?"
  18. Certainly not by me. I hope it looks like this
  19. We know they will not.
  20. ...that oddly did absolutely nothing to convince me that potential future Bionicle costumes wouldn't look horrible.
  21. aw come on are you saying you don't want any more masterpieces like this?
  22. Doctor Who is almost entirely episodic; you can watch an episode with minimal understanding and still get a fulfilling experience. Bionicle is an epic. Starting in the middle is like starting Lord of the Rings at Return of the King. Sure, there are self contained plots, but there are also overarching plots that will be difficult to comprehend unless you start at the beginning.
  23. In 2008, to fully comprehend what was happening, you would have to catch up on seven years of story material, spread out across various forms of media (books, comics, online games, movies), which is a daunting task. Downright offputting. Most people would see a commercial on TV, think "I have no idea what's going on" and not pay it any more mind. A long epic isn't necessarily a bad story to tell, but it's not always suited for the sales of a toyline, and it definitely doesn't work when that story is told sporadically over several different mediums, with no one medium telling the whole thing.
  24. Accessibility of the story was also a big factor, though. Like, DV has said he has talked to employees at LEGO and they have told him plot accessibility was a huge problem as Bionicle dragged on.
  25. Certainly better to pander to the years that sold well than those that sold less well, methinks.
