Quoted from the "review" : You can fold the huge wings downwards. This doesn’t work with a hinge, they just turn straight down. They go back up with a nifty, well thought-out handle.
-
That is a terrible review of the Kylo Ren Command Shuttle... they mention the wings can fold down but there is no picture of that, even though the wings folding is one of the most discussed topics about it for weeks... Anyone have a link to better pictures of the folded down wings mentionned there?

An escape pod set is more likely to include a Jawa than a Tusken, considering what happens to both droids after they exit the pod and part ways.

Hi again everyone! After much patience, I finally have all the bricks I needed to assemble the Interceptor. I had to make a few tweaks and adjustments but it's more or less how I'd envisionned it and I'm happy with it, which is what matters really. Without further ado, I'l leave you with the pictures.. I'll appreciate any and all comments!

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
BalrogJ replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hate is a big word for something as fun-oriented as LEGO, but considering the price of most sets these days, it's quite hard to understand how they could mess up the design of the Sith Infiltrator not once, not twice but three times, and each time looking worse than the original one (which wasn't quite right already).. Good thing I only collect OT sets, but that was my one ship I liked from the otherwise very forgettable PT designs, and Maul is like the one redeeming quality of TPM.. Pretty much gave up on ever getting a good one. Some of the other sets shown or linked in this thread do look quite bad, though some of them are from ye olden days when stuff was harder to get right with a more limited brick set. I don't own many of the "bad" sets myself because I have limited display space and I try to collect only the "good" ones hehe Oh wait, I do HATE one thing.. I HATE that there is no UCS Cloud City set yet! -
It's funny how there's only a few replies and yet everything I want has already been said Dagobah Yoda's Hut (includes Dark Side Cave). I'd like LEGO not to needlessly boost the piece count by adding a swamped X-Wing, just let us make our own by getting an X-Wing if we want to.. would include Training Luke, Yoda, Artoo, Vader!Luke and a brick-built dragonsnake. Cloud City set, ideally one as big as the Death Star set and built on the same way, with a large round frame and several layers, including a dining room, a couple corridors, the Ugnaught foundry, the small room Threepio got blasted in, the carbon freezing chamber, the holding cell/torture room, the landing platform for Slave I AND the Falcon (in micro-scale) and of course the iconic rooms where Vader and Luke have their dad and son moment. Bonus point if there is a small antenna at the very bottom of the structure where you can hang Luke upside down! Would include Vader, 2 x Stormtroopers, Bespin Leia, Han (+Carbonite!Han mold), Bespin Luke, Lando, Lobot, Cloud City troopers x 2, Boba Fett, Ugnaughts x 2 and E-3PO (the protocol droid who swears at Threepio ). It'd be a big, very expensive set but I'm throwing my money at it no matter what, it's my number one wish. Lars Homestead, which would include dining room, circular open space with a moisture vaporator and some nice stairs around the outer edge to go to the "surface", Luke's garage/room. Would include Owen, Beru, Luke, Threepio, R2, and a landspeeder (not Luke's, the one we see in the back of the garage, we already have like 5 Luke speeders...). Tusken Raiders battlepack with one Bantha would be awesome too. Another big wish, I have set up a display of the Rebel Alliance fighters flying towards the Galactic Empire fighters, but while they've recently released all the Alliance fighters again in great ways (X-Wing, Y-Wing, B-Wing and A-Wing), they've only really made the TIE Fighter recently.. The old TIE Advanced x 1 still holds up great next to it, but it's really high time to release a newer, better (not BLUE) TIE Bomber and TIE Incerceptor! And since we're talking about ships, the Nebulon-B Frigate would be awesome too, I figure they could make one in the same scale as the Midi-scale Star Destroyer, but I'd take a UCS too! Would include Bespin Luke (injured), Leia, Lando (in epilogue clothes) and a 2-1B droid. I sadly don't see them doing a Home One because it'd have to be enormous to have the right "look", but if they make one UCS and it includes small rooms inside like the Death Star attack briefing room and the command bridge and a small hangar with micro-scale ships, well now you're talking! Would include Admiral Ackbar, Mon Calamari officers x 2, Mon Mothma, General Crix Madine, Rebel pilots x 1 and A-Wing pilot x 1. If only one thing from that list could come true, let it be a UCS Cloud City please!

I'm certainly glad you appreciate it enough to want to make it yourself For the moment it's only in LDD and I made it in my own special way, meaning "I'll stick that brick there and see if it works".. so I'm not yet 100% sure how functionnal the build I made in LDD is, and what will need adjusting with real bricks. Once I've finished the actual build, I'll remake it in LDD by following the steps I really followed, and if it works out I'll post the instructions.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
BalrogJ replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have the UCS AT-ST and I love it. I was late to the party but managed to get it for 60€ on Bricklink a few years ago and I am really happy I made that call. It's not as impressive as the Executor or some more recent UCS sure, but it's really tall and quite massive and it really gives that vibe like it came straight from the movie in my opinion. -
I've made a few modifications to the Interceptor based on feedback and my own observations, but I'd like the opinion of other people to decide what looks more fitting to the MOC. I've modified the windshield from using 3 2x2 trans-clear slopes to using an actual windshield, but it's not entirely faithful to the movie car because the angle of the slope is too small, but it does give the car a more aggressive look and that's a good thing I suppose.. Also I've changed the side mirrors from using that prehistoric method to using something actually a bit more subtle (I took the idea from the small City cars I got for my son hehe). Please help Max decide which would be better for him!

Thanks for your comment! I actually tried the wedged roof on LDD and I didn't go with it because it was too narrow (4 studs wide when the car is 6 studs wide), and when I flipped it horizontally to use it like that, it ended up too short (not going far back enough)... plus it made the roof more curved than the model. Also, it means that the car will have studs on the top, since that part doesn't exist without the top 4 studs I also looked at several existing windshields and I had my eye on the one you linked but it once again didn't look enough like the model because it is too "deep", but I'll experiment with it some more. As for the Spider-Man chase link you provided, that's some great idea for using a windshield that I'd never seen before, I'll make sure to use that in my further experiments! Thanks very much!

Hi everyone! [EDIT : you can now see the real-bricks model at the bottom of this page!] After seeing Mad Max : Fury Road (awesome!), I got a familiar itch to build something. Since the iconic vehicle of the protagonist doesn't show up a whole lot in the new movie, I decided to pick the model from the older ones. At first I tried to follow the pictures really closely, but as I went on I added some little stuff here and there as I saw fit, that's what usually happens when I make MOC's hehe. I've seen a few other MOCs on the same model around, including one on the very first page of this section recently, but my goal was to make one that'd be scaled for minifigs, to display next to the DeLorean and Ecto-1. I sadly don't have the bricks to do it right away so I had to order what I needed from Bricklink, but for now you can see the end result in LDD. Let me know what you think

I'm really crossing my fingers that we get the ANH version of Yularen because I could really use a white Imperial officer torso to customize a Grand Admiral Thrawn! Now if only they'd release a Chiss face. I'm disappointed that we don't seem to be getting a Cloud City UCS, but I'm kind of curious about this Hoth Echo Base set, even though I've already made a big MOC of it but some more parts are always welcome I guess..

Not sure if the joke flew over my head, but just in case... Star Destroyers aren't named as such because of their ability to destroy stars, even as an exaggeration.. they're named that way because they're "destroyers" (a class of ship) that go in space.. hence the whole Star Destroyer bit. :) Just like Star Wars isn't really about a war between angry stars.

Hello everyone. Just an update with the "real" version of my project previewed earlier on the page, made with the bricks I ordered and finally received. Let me know what you think!

I highly doubt it. I think it would be unwise for LEGO to put all their eggs in the same basket that is Episode VII. Firstly because even though it's going to make a LOT of money even if it doesn't turn out as good as we hope simply because it's Star Wars, that doesn't mean that the fans would buy LEGO sets based on VII (kids would though). Secondly because I think a massive reason why Star Wars is so hugely popular in the AFOL community is because of nostalgia from the older movies and it would be a mistake to completely stop making sets based on the originals, or even some of the prequel material (since these movies are also becoming "old" nowadays). Personnally I'm thinking LEGO will go for a mix of the new movies, the Original Trilogy stuff (because the new movie is trying very hard to remind us of the old ones), and possibly some more Rebels/other shows stuff if they turn out to be popular.

[Midi-Scale MOC] Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul
BalrogJ replied to BalrogJ's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hello again everyone. I've received the bricks to create Barad-Dûr and jumped right onto it. Here's the result : And a comparison with another set from the Architecture Landmarks series since that's what I was aiming for.. I think the United Nations aren't too happy about the neighborhood now. -
It's true that a lot of the iconic scenes of the originals feature imperial troopers different from the regular stormtrooper. All those neat scenes on Tatooine require sandtroopers, the bazillion Hoth scenes made in LEGO all feature snowtroopers, and even Endor where the stormtroopers were very numerous is usually getting the short end of the stick on stormtroopers because they also have to include scout troopers in there. I guess the only set beside those mentionned above (Tantive IV, Cloud City and Death Star) where a lot of stormtroopers could be featured would be the Emperor's Arrival at the Death Star II, but then again they'd also have to include some royal guards, imperial officers so that too would hurt the number of troopers. Battle-packs seem to be the only good way to go then.

My main regret about the Harry Potter LEGO line was that they never released a "proper" Hogwarts Castle. By proper I mean the kind of UCS-size set you'd see for the Death Star in the Star Wars line.. a big castle, that opens up (or has a facade on one side and is open in the back) with most of the recognizable rooms such as the dining room, a couple classes, the basement for the potion classes, Dumbledore's office, the observatory tower, etc... I'd have been ready to fork out quite a lot of money for that kind of set, but I think they mostly aimed the sets at children for this line (which is expected, Harry Potter is mostly child-oriented). Oh well!

[Midi-Scale MOC] Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul
BalrogJ replied to BalrogJ's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's a good idea. Since it's still in the concept phase and only in LDD, I'll make sure to pick up white glow bricks instead of regular white, at least for the bottom of the ramparts. -
Hello everyone! Inspired by my wife's collection of LEGO Landmarks, I decided to start fooling around on the LDD with some of MY favorite landmarks. Since I already have the beautiful official set Tower of Orthanc, I decided to tackle Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul, the other famous towers of LOTR. But I decided to try and do them in the same scale and the same spirit as the Landmarks sets. Here's the result of my attempts, rendered until I can get the actual bricks. And here are some other angles, snapshotted straight from LDD because rendering takes way too long! Minas Morgul was mostly inspired by this design. I was initially going to use sand green bricks but realized the tower is meant to be white, and the green is actually a tint coming from the foul moats around the dead city and from the corruption inside. The small bat is more for fun than anything, it's supposed to be the fellbeast of the Witch-King of Angmar! And Barad-Dûr.. The translucent red minifig head at the top will obviously be replaced with the official "Eye of Sauron" brick available in a couple of sets. I've ordered the bricks to make Barad-Dûr and will post more pictures once that's done. The bricks for Minas Morgul will have to wait a little, it gets expensive to order tons of bricks to create all those MOC's once you've got the inspiration and motivation to start you can't seem to ever stop. That's all for now!

Thanks for all the comments! @mechamike : Yes, I'm also surprised by the lack of this build in the MOC community but maybe it's because it's not very challenging or spectacular? I am thinking of changing the central part of the main dish to look thinner and more pointy than the inverted 2x1x3 slopes so that should help with this issue. As for the secondary dishes located outside the main one, that's on purpose (for now) but I also ordered bricks that should allow me to put them on the inside perimeter of the dish if I want to (I'll be using claws instead of those bricks to connect the 8 secondary dishes). I'll post more pictures to show what I mean when I've received all those bricks!

Hello everyone. This is one of my first attempts at MOC'ing and I decided to go for the Endor Shield Generator, a design I always loved since my childhood. There are several versions of the same design depending on the artwork, concept art or actual movie design, and I took inspiration from a bit of everything until I got a result that satisfied me. :) This was my main inspiration for the actual "body" of the shield generator. And the result : Obviously it's not to scale with the bunker, but I have my Battle of Endor set included in a diorama with a limited space so I had to choose a smaller scale. My main intent was not to portray the building in its true size but to create something with the same design and keep its "spirit" to represent this pivotal scene in the movie and one of the epic moments of the trilogy. Another difference with the original design is that the secondary smaller dishes around the main dish are not normally "outside" the main dish, but I made a few attempts and finally decided to go ahead and have them outside because I felt it gave the whole antenna a more threatening aspect, probably because it looks more arachnean that way. As you can see, the whole thing is simply "grafted" ontop of the existing bunker from Battle of Endor, simply using a few plates and a pillar of bricks underneath for support. The main structure of the shield generator is able to rotate 360 degrees by using a rotating part 4x4 under the large octogonal plate. The "dish" part of the generator cannot currently be angled differently on its own, but it can be done by simply replacing the current 35% angle connector with another angle (45% for instance). This isn't really the final version of the project, I threw it onto the rendering software as an attempt and figured I'd get some opinions from this community. I ordered the bricks required on Bricklink and will make this project a reality in a few weeks time hopefully. I'll make sure to post more pictures of the real thing when it's done.
