Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ocifant replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
With it being the 10th anniversary, why has no-one mentioned a 10230 part two yet? I'd love the most recent modulars to be released in that mini-modular style! -
Ok, thanks to that other thread and a bit of playing, I've managed to squeeze a 90 degree angle into a 6x6 plate. Not too smooth, and a bit 'gappy', but more than adequate for my immediate purposes.
-
many thanks, I'll take a look. [edit]: I like the idea of offset plates to create the curve. I'll need to experiment to see how many I need for a 'smoother' curve. Thanks again for the heads up!

I've just finished putting together the Bricktober Train Station 40142, and I love the little train that comes with it, but am disappointed that the 'track', made up of 2412 2x1 grille tiles runs nowhere other than to the front of the other buildings in the series. I'm envisaging a micro street, with a station at each end, and a track bending around behind, but it's the curves for the corners which are proving troublesome. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for modelling curves that would fit with the scale? The track along the back of the buildings is no problem, other than modelling the curves, which is where I come unstuck. I'd probably fill the area behind the buildings and within the tracks with a parkland scene, or similar. It's just those darn bends that are stopping me, so any/all suggestions are welcome.

Trying to gather info from the hive mind here. I have an idea to Bricklink a couple of small sets (the Bricktober 2014 mini-modulars), but I'm not sure the best/easiest way to do this. I've installed BrickStore which is supposed to allow import of BrickLink inventories, but when I search, the set (40180-1 as an example) doesn't show in the list, so I can't get a list of parts. I need the .bsx file from BrickStore so I can load it into Brickficiency to find the cheapest vendors and create the appropriate Bricklink orders. I did create a spreadsheet file with the part numbers and quantities, taken from the inventory page on the instructions, expecting that Brickficieny or whatever would be able to import it, but no such luck. How do other people tackle such things? Is there an easier way? Thanks.

Ok, after some searching, it appears I have: 71427c01 Motor 2847c01 Battery Box 4232rc Spybotic Control (stamped '1342'). It looks identical to the one illustrated here: http://spybotics.wik..._Remote_Control - but again, no cables included, and no CD. I'll have to see if I can find any instructions/Inventory for any of the sets that contain these parts to see how close I can get from the bags of varied bits that I've purchased. Those are the only electrical items I seem to have at the moment. What a mess, I'll be a bit more careful in buying boot sale miscellany in future!
-
Ah, great, got it, thanks. That mother was tight!! It took some teasing, using a couple of brick separators, but it's now free. No cables hidden away inside, alas. As mentioned, I also have a small remote(?) and a smaller motor. If I can't reconcile which set they're from, or confirm the part numbers, I may just put them up on Bricklink and be done with it...
-
Dumb question, but I took a punt on a job lot of parts at a boot sale recently. 13 zip-loc bags and a biscuit tin full of mixed up parts. Seems to be mainly stuff like 8511 and similar models (some Bionicle parts) but nothing is complete (as yet - still sorting through!) There was a battery box in the tin, looks like 2847c01 on Bricklink, but I can't see how to prise it open! There is a gap between the base and cover, but no way can I force them apart without breaking. What's the trick to opening the box? Any clues? I've no wires or connectors, but there is what looks like a remote control of some sort - rotary 3 position switch and 4 buttons. I've not found it on Bricklink yet...

Well I'm grey, but not *that* grey!

We bald goatee owners need a support group, obviously! :-) I'll check out TS/Aragorn, thanks. Ah, good old Bricklink! I'd been searching for 'Goatee Beard', but shortening that to just 'Goatee' came up with some candidates. There's even one with glasses! But I think this one is more me, although I'll need to do some work to remove the hair.
-
Looking for ideas on how best to represent a bald-headed figure with a long goatee. The beard parts I've seen, such as on the Wizard all seem to have sideburns which isn't what I'm after. Also, any ideas for a bald/shaved head? Kind of like the Shakespeare CMF, but without the hair? i.e. no stud on top? I had a look around sites such as MinifigMe, but without much success. Am I on my own with this? Customisation isn't something I'm in to personally...

I've had to contact Customer Services twice in the past year for missing pieces. And I had the 'substitute ' piece dilemma on Palace Cinema for one of the counter tiles in the wrong colour, which I dealt with from spares. Took about three weeks for the pieces to come through in both Instances. 2 from one set, and 4 from another. No questions asked, so can't complain really apart from the frustration of not being able to complete until the parts arrived. I always open a bag at a time into sorting containers, and build from them to reduce the chance of losing anything.

60008 Museum Break-in received here. Will be getting DO very early in the new year (I hope!)

Thanks folks, seems like bagging the bigguns is the way to go. I'll give it a bit more thought. I'm already onto the LDD thing, but colours are a bit of an issue for me there, being partly colour-blind. I'm better if I can compare real bricks side by side ;-)

Ok, so I've got to that stage where I simply have no more space to display completed models. The time has come to disassemble several of my modular buildings (PC, PS, GE and a Haunted House) to make room for new stuff. I have a TH and PR ready and wating alongside a few of the Creator 3in1 buildings. What do others do in this situation? One part of me says to keep all the parts for one set together (1 bag per level), but the other says to part out, mix them up and see what I can come up with - I have a couple of ideas for small dioramas/large vignettes that I've started to play around with using odds and sods parts, but which could use some of the bricks from the models I have rather than bricklinking even more bricks into the house! I don't think I'll ever want to sell any of the larger sets (though I still have the boxes so far), but I'm worried about not being able to find a crucial part if/when I decide to rebuild for display. My OCD will go into overdrive if I ever have an incomplete set!! I'd appreciate any advice, or words of experience. I've spent over 40 years in the Dark Ages, and only emerged earlier this year, so it's all still a bit new and overwhelming.

I've a Battle Goddess and Gamer Guy here. corner numbers are 2 and 11, no idea which is which... Edit: All gone now.

Waiting in for a delivery of PR and a SW Microfighter. Tracker site says "Shipment on delivery route". That was 7am, and it's now 1pm, so hopefully it'll be here soon!
-
Just ordered Parisien Restaurant and a SW microfighter before the double VIP point run out this week. That's Town Hall, Haunted House and the Restaurant this month, not to mention the Cafe and Bike Shop, Family House and various minifigs etc. That's it now for a while I think! Time to get building!
-
Picked up a Town Hall and bonus Christmas Set, plus the Wedding Cake topper set (for Daughter #2's nuptials next year). All with double points - £55 now, so need to plan what to get with those next month... Got home, to find a Family Home waiting on the doorstep in the rain, courtesy of Amazon's driver. Luckily no water damage.

Whichever, it shows there's still stock available... -

Just back from my local branch (Watford, UK), and they seemed to have plenty of shelf stock of TH (I grabbed one) PC, GE, PS and PR. Also Tower Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Death Star and several other of the larger models. Clearing the stockroom for New Year maybe? -

My local store had 8 in stock the other weekend. I've now got one of those, and will hopefully finish the build tonight. I just have to find somewhere to display it now... -
Suggestion on first modular building to buy and build?
ocifant replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in LEGO Town
I'm sure this has been asked before. Speaking from personal experience (also only recently out of a 40+ year Dark Age!) I'd go for the one that sparks your interest most. Others will say to take into account 'retirability', i.e. which models are likely to be around for least longest. From reading here, I believe Grand Emporium or Town Hall may be next for the chop. Pet Shop was my most recent modular purchase, Town Hall will be my next, later this month. I already had Palace Cinema and Grand Emporium. For me, Palace Cinema was the 'trickiest' build in terms of techniques. Pet Shop was reasonably straightforward, but more fun as there's more in it and you get two buildings for the price of one! I found Grand Emporium a bit 'repetitive' in places, but the overall result is a good one. Just my 2p worth! -

I'd guess this happens when a store returns unsold stock - my local store admitted to having 8 HH last week, although none were on display. I grabbed one at the weekend, and they had plenty left (I counted at least 4 on the display shelf). I'd assume as new stock models come in, if they need the shelf space then older models will be shipped back to the warehouse? -
Just splurged on Haunted House and Cafe/Bike Shop. Depending upon bank balance I might get Town Hall later this month too (it's a 'free' month on my season ticket loan), Wondering what to use all my double points on next month... maybe Seaside House or something similar?
