When you know more about Lego colors than your local Lego store employees. And when you set time aside to teach them the differences between colors. :)

Welcome! I've been meaning to dig out my own pirates sets from the 90s and rebuild them. Thanks for the reminder!

Mailing PAB cups to other forum members?
BrickAddict90 replied to BrickAddict90's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreed, if this idea took off I certainly wouldn't be going to the store every day to fill orders. I would set aside an hour or two every other week at the most. I honestly don't mind helping out fellow Lego enthusiasts even if I've never spoken to them before or developed a friendship with them. AFOLs are some of the most respectable people in the world. I think the problem with most people is that they need to embrace their inner child. Only AFOLs do that. On a quick side note, none of the Lego employees in my store knew what "sand green" looked like. I had to point it out to them. LOL -
I saw this topic come up somewhere months ago but I don't think it had its own dedicated thread. What do we all think about mailing PAB wall contents to other members on here? That way those of us further away from a certain selection can still take advantage of it. I was thinking we get a few volunteers from nearby stores to keep websites such as Wall of Bricks updated weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly, so that we can always have an updated idea of what parts are out there are various stores. A member who wants a full cup worth of whatever will send their order to the volunteer who will then fill the cup. Would be great especially for those who live no where near a Lego store. Of course, members pay the volunteer up front for the full cost of the cup and shipping. Maybe round up to the nearest dollar to compensate for fuel expenditures depending on how far away the store is from the volunteer. Pay via PayPal. Establish some rules like, members in good standing and with 50+ posts or something. Volunteer keeps the empty cup and stuffs the contents in a padded envelope to save on shipping. Buyer would be fully compensated. I thought of this again because of the sand green bricks in the NYC stores which I'm not even sure when I'll be able to get there (I live in CT with a busy work schedule). Just an idea I'm throwing around. Thoughts? I could potentially volunteer my services for the West Hartford, CT store. I'm on good terms with the store manager there (I've been in that store far too many times) and I'm sure he wouldn't mind me hanging around his PAB wall taking inventory of what they have. I'd like to see this idea kick off with several others before I commit to anything just yet though.

Sand green... sounds too good to be true! Can anyone in NYC confirm these bricks are still there, and in decent quantity? I'm thinking of grabbing the fiance and hopping on the train from CT to NYC this weekend just for a cup or two...

The Westfarms store had two bins of mixed pieces when I stopped by last week.

Restocking from holiday demand from what I understand. Normal stock should be returning soon.
-
$8.99 and $15.99 respectively.

Try using the Lego replacement parts on Lego's website. I just checked for that exact part and color - it does say it's out of stock, but try talking to a Lego customer service rep, they may be able to work some magic for you.

Since that article was written some years ago and the prices on the cups have increased since then, is the small cup still actually a better value? Does anyone know if the actual size of the cups have changed?

I've never had a part crack or break despite my entire collection being stored in the attic for nearly a decade with wild temperature swings from one extreme to another. What has happened though is some parts have lost their gripping power. Many minifigure hair pieces and hats simply fall right off if turned upside down. Some bricks and plates, especially the 1x1 plates, will not grip onto the part it is being attached to. And tons of my white colored parts have discolored turning into a sort of yellow. No color issue with any other colors. I don't think Lego will replace my entire collection of white bricks. Lego should have a page on their website on how to properly care for Lego especially during long periods of storage.

Just spent the past several hours sorting through an entire box of about 6 cubic feet full of Lego. It was full of broken and half-complete sets from my younger Lego days. It must have had at least a few thousand pieces and dozens and dozens of individual parts. I bought two Stack-On 60 drawer storage cabinets a while ago and I'm quickly filling them all up with all these parts. Scary part is....I have 9 more boxes to go with some twice the size. I have absolutely no plans in play for MOCing after I complete all my sorting. I think I'm just dealing with some Lego sorting compulsion...

Brick Bank was selling like candy today at my Lego store. I grabbed the last one and went to go check out just as I saw a worker restocking the spot with two more. By the time I completed checking out and turned to walk out, the shelf was empty once again. I saw no less than five people walking around the mall with Brick Bank in their bags. I finished building the first section just now; the rest will have to hold off until tomorrow since work won't let me call off today . I wanted to scoop up a Millennium Falcon as well, but it was STILL out of stock...so I did what I don't like doing, and ordered it online. I don't like the three day waiting game for it to arrive .

I'm certainly not anti-gun; I own several firearms in real life and go to the nearby shooting range on a monthly basis. However, it is somewhat strange seeing one in a City set. As far as I'm aware, this has never happened before in any other City set. Especially considering the crooks still have just their crowbars and dynamite, and not guns themselves. One of my favorite themes is Western, and it was great seeing all the rifles and pistols in those sets as it helps with the realism of days in the American West. It's great seeing blaster pistols and lightsabers in Star Wars sets, and swords and bows in Castle sets, etc. These weapons have always been present in those particular themes. I still have this set on my "to buy" list, but I probably won't include the gun in my city layout (as Lego City is the only gun-free zone that has ever worked as such). But I will admit, it is very strange, odd and out of place seeing a gun in a City set. We could all be wrong and it could really be something else entirely however.

Lego took B&P down for the holidays to deal with the influx in demand for actual missing/broken pieces. Right now you can't purchase from B&P until sometime in January-February.

Only way to become a pro builder is to get an idea of what types of Lego parts there are out there and experiment with different ways to connect them together. Over time, an artistic skill will start to develop and you'll be able to build a model (without instructions) with just having a mental picture of what you want to build. Kind of like a painter. For instance, if you wanted to build a basic roof on a small house, the first thought that comes to mind would be to use 1x2 and 2x2 slope bricks. But there's tons of ways people have built roofs. Pretty much anything you can imagine can be built with Lego, that's what I love about the hobby. Also keep in mind a lot of us have grown up with Lego and have years and years worth of experience, so don't get discouraged if your first house build comes out not looking like much of a house. Edit: I don't know how much experience you have with Lego, but if you want to get some ideas on how the same part can be used in multiple different ways, pick up one of the Creator Expert series. A little pricey, (~$140) but it'll give you tons of ideas on how different parts interconnect to build something.

My B&P order arrived yesterday, indeed from Denmark - with parts missing :( My 1x4x6 glass panels were replaced with part #18646 in black, which color, according to Bricklink, isn't even available. I sent customer service an email - hoping for a quick response and quick delivery. My Green Grocer is looking like it was just broken into and looted without those window panes.

I actually posted this same question a few days ago. In short, no one knows for sure. I spoke with the Westfarms store manager a few days ago and he doesn't know for sure either, but it "makes sense" to him for it to retire when Brick Bank is released in January. Also keep in mind you won't get nearly as much return on a used, built set as you would a NIB set.

When I came out of my dark ages and took all my Lego out of the attic, I first started using those Sterilite drawers. Now about a year later, I noticed that they are not nearly as sturdy or durable as I would like. I currently use them to hold my bulk Lego bricks, but I have other plans for them later on. I'll post pictures when I redo that area. I was using smaller drawers to store my plates; for example, drawer 1 held all my 1x2 plates, drawer 2 held all my 1x4 plates, etc etc - not organized by color, which I learned was a terrible mistake as I began MOCing. So now I'm slowly beginning to organize all my plates into fishing tackle boxes, BY COLOR :). As you can see in the below picture, my goal is to build up to having one full section each devoted to a single color. I plan on doing the same for smaller parts like the 1x1 cheese slopes. I think the brand name of this box is Flambeau, found at Walmart in the fishing section. I also have a Plano box of similar size. Both brands work well, I just find the latches on the Flambeau boxes much easier to open and close. I feel like I'm going to rip my fingernails off with the Plano. I love these boxes because of the dividers.

Just passing this info along: I spoke with the store manager at the Westfarms store about an hour ago - new parts will be coming to the PAB wall early January. He's expecting January 1st to be busier than Brick Friday.

I just placed an order with this service last week and received a shipment notification a day later. I ordered around 300 parts for my Green Grocer build. No problems here. On a side note, does anyone know where these orders ship from? I only ask because I live twenty minutes from Enfield Connecticut and figured I would've received everything by now it it was shipping from there. Or are they really shipping it from Denmark?

Haha. Wish I thought about that when my Lego store still had tons of that set in stock! We're actually Bricklinking that set together! She agreed, as long as she gets the cat. Haha oh boy.
-
Thanks for the info! She's after just the cat, I'm after the whole set  . We've collected three modulars so far - I want to collect them all but she won't let me unless there's something in it for her ;) (the cat).
