  1. My first MOC for GoH (in fact, my first MOC ever ), and my first entry for Age of Mitgardia. I have very few white pieces (almost all used in the MOC), but I felt that my first Mitgardia entry had to be a snowy one, so this is what I got. It was the worst winter in several years, and for the miller, the worst of his life. The two horses he owned had died because of the cold, and the town was dependent on him being able of doing his work. The solution was desperate, but his years as a hunter gave him the skills. He captured two wolfs, and chained them to the mill, hoping it could work. It did. Hope you like it. Comments and feedback are (very) welcome. Saludos, D.
  2. Love the rocks, and also the sheer number of minis cramped in the border, just about to fall :) Impressive scene.
  3. Given that most of my (few) sets come from the Hobbit line, the probabilities of choosing a dwarf were very high :) BTW, I've almost finished my first MOC for GoH. Hope to find some time this weekend to finish it and take some photos.
  4. Thanks everybody for your kind and encouraging words. I've already joined Mitgardia (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85719&st=1275#entry1891127), so now, let's build!
  5. After some meditation, and asking a few questions, I have decided to join the guild of Mitgardia, hoping to be able to learn something from the great builders here. For my sigfig, let me introduce you to Tybor Ironhand, son of the chieftain of the Blackbear clan. Before being named official heir to his father seat, he has to prove himself, venturing into the lands of Historica and bringing something (knowledge, treasures,...) valuable to the clan. Until then, he cannot grow a beard and must shave his head, as a symbol of his dedication to this quest. In the image, he is holding the traditional axe of the clan, symbol of peace (typically misunderstood by people not familiar with clan traditions, with tragic results in some cases).
  6. Please don't let me ruin the fun (Let's see If I can help.) I could pretend that I'm still considering other options, but it is obvious for everyone that Mitgardia is the best guild to join, and other "best " guilds are only the refugee for the owners of lots of sand-colored bricks or trans-orange round 1x1 plates (Hope this gives everyone an opportunity for trash talking, if desired )
  7. In order to avoid advertisement efforts, so the various members can focus in their MOCs :D I'll almost certain that I'll join Mitgardia. My collection is pretty limited, coming from buying some Hobbit sets, so that discards some of the guilds. Also, I find very interesting the AoM contest, that allows going at your own pace, and has some variety in the builds proposed.
  8. Thanks for your answers. I have absolutely no problems with (constructive) criticism. IMO, that is one of the main reasons for sharing any creative effort, so you can improve. Again, thanks, and expect to hear from me soon in one of the guilds :)
  9. Hello, I'm just trying to exit my dark ages, after starting to buy Lego (duplo) sets for my kids. I like castle/medieval builds, and looking for inspiration, I've found GoH. I'd like to join, but before doing it, I'd like to check with you if totally newbie builders (I'm just starting with my first MOCs) are welcome. I just don't stop seeing your wonderful creations, and I'm not sure if you aren't expecting a minimum level from new members. D.
  10. +1 to mixing greys. It gives a lot of "texture" to otherwise boring walls
  11. Totally agree. If a location deserves "mega-set" treatment, that is Minas Tirith.
  12. Witch-king, no doubt. We need the signature characters, ,and not those anonymous soldiers, meant to die in battle ;)
  13. Agree!! This set is one of the few I already have, and along with the giant tree from the Attacks of the wargs set (+ the amazing giant wolfs), I have green and brown to start building (next: grey bricks )
  14. Nice suggestions! I'll check if they have Kingdoms Joust in the Lego store I will visit when in the US (so far, it looks like the best bet), and take note of the chess set suggestion. I'm now looking mainly for parts, but when I switch to "minifig mode", is a very good deal. Thanks to all of you for your help. D.
  15. Thanks everybody for your answers! Yes! I like the Helms Deep set a lot, but the prices I've found for it are quite high Very nice set!!! Didn't know it (still learning), but by its looks, I'm pretty sure is a classic I'll check the castles set you mention, and the Millennium Falcon is definitely in my list My main interest right now is in currently available sets. I'm travelling to the US next month, and will have the chance to go to a LEGO shop, with much better prices than here in Europe. Any suggestion? Again, thanks for taking the time to answer a newbie. D.
  16. Hi all, This is my first post in EB. I'm just escaping my dark ages, after buying a lot of duplo for my children, getting jealous , and getting a couple Star Wars/Hobbit sets Now, I want to start MOCing (I think I'll start with medieval/fantasy MOCs, so that is the reason I'm posting here), and I'll be gathering a couple more sets to get enough pieces to, at least, be able build some small vignettes. I'd like to hear your recommendations of good, currently available, sets with pieces appropriate for medieval MOCing. Right now I have: - XWing fighter - An Unexpected Gathering - Attack of the wargs - Goblin King Battle Dol Guldur looks nice (lots of grey bricks for building walls, and some nice minifigs). Any other (obvious or not obvious) recommendation? Thanks in advance. D.
