  1. OMG whats the deal with torso neck pins having a print rectangle maybe someone with a contact in Production can ask why it's there
  2. the reason for the black triangle was for 2 purposes 1. In the past it was to used to give the head extra friction and stay on. I assume that given it's not needed for item 2. now days they have changed the molds tolerances to have a tighter clearance on the torso stud and head bore 2. Also in the past it was to help with production to assist with aligning the heads face to the front torso for packaging. Not needed now days as cameras can be used to tell the difference between the back and front of the torso see datalogic see sick sensors
  3. Might be the print and decoration dept or set design dept having a play around with machine capacity to see what's possible ....?
  4. And on the Sunday, Lego made the Jumper plate, and all was good with the system of play
  5. I was thinking along the same lines tax breaks proximity to raw materials Plastic sheet manufacture is near by (cost of transport for said material to Billund for processing vs local ` proximity to skilled labor Same thing in Switzerland, once them tax brakes were gone and the cost of labour went up what the point, then they went eastern Europe where the skills are there and labour costs are low
  6. yer correct, the reason is, "but why Austria" and not say...? North Korea
  7. The simple answer is baseplates! for some reason, unknown to me Lego makes all of it's Vacuum form parts and elements like normal baseplates , roads, raised, Duplo baseplates in Austria, or did when it was viable back in the day
  8. What about the tooling for these items that never make it into Lego's production schedule...? Normally for cost reasons these prototype molds would be for small single or double element position molds for small runs, these are normally made of copper so if any changes need to be it is easier to do in the softer material before forking out for a full production mold, Does anyone know what happens to these copper molds........?
  9. Back in the day they would dump the molds into the fountains of Lego plants in the Billund area to stop them from getting in the wrong hands. I Know from my experience with IP material that we would do one of the following to destroy anything so that it didn't to get into a competitors hands Destroy the piece by milling or turning into nothing but chips or swarf of steel so that dimensional tolerances could not be measured Get apprentices to learn how to weld by destroying the machined faces so if the piece was picked up by others there was too much work in it to reclaim the item Destroy the piece in a 600 ton press And finally secure scrapping of the worn out and prototype pieces the best bet is to get in contact with a lego tool marker https://www.linkedin.com/title/toolmaker-at-lego-group , I've always wanted a set of 3001 mold die tooling I do have a article from bohler uddeholm (tooling steel supplier to lego) about there relationship with lego that maybe on interest, I will try to dig it up and post it
  10. Being a toy captialist, I'm not ashamed of reselling old retired sets, I was smart enough to see the need at the time I was out getting the misb sets I couldn't afford when younger, I have no issue storing sets in a climated control storage room at home for later sale. I do think some usa and european seller these days do take the piss out of buyers with the high prices retired sets are commanding these days due in part to there economies being in the toilet, people are supplementing there incomes reselling. I've always priced lower then most on ebay and the mean avg off bricklink, alot of ebay buyers are unware of bricklink and so items as sold quick not hanging around. I have no issue in "hordering" sets until the time comes to sell them to people who missed out the first time round for what ever reason, also it helps living where I live I can see how the usa and euro markets are trending and the fact lego stocks my country last with there product means I can take advantage of what AFOL are after and store sales when other parts of the world are out of stock . Also I might add and making a good profit on it to. It's help paid for the deposit on a house and the extras in life, you might not like it but our hobby we live is a capital consumer western life style it's a want not a need, fact of life harden up.
