  1. Hi all, My first MOC build for ages! :) Having built up a collection of Lego Movie sets I decided to knock up something using just the parts from some of the city-themed sets. I'd seen a brief clip of a ship in the final battle based on a cement truck so I ordered up kit no. 60018 from ebay and got to work. The mech is built using parts from five models: 70804 Ice Cream Machine (left leg), 70805 Trash Chomper (right leg), 70811 Flying Flusher (left arm), 70813 Rescue Reinforcements (Fire Mech parts - torso), and 60018 Cement Truck (right arm). Apologies for the pics, I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow! :) Following the successful defeat of Lord Business's plans to glue the world together, the Bricksburg citizens suddenly face an even more daunting struggle - against invading aliens from the planet Duplo! For this they must build even more capable combat machines from whatever they have left from the first battle. Salvaging parts from five battered war machines they create The Bricksburg Battle Mech: Weaponry: Shoulder-mounted 4-barrelled rotary water cannon, arm-mounted cement cannon, and double ended sword-type thing. :) I built the left leg first using parts from the Ice Cream Machine, which dictated the size of the whole model really as this kit uses a very long chassis plate. I then built the right leg from the Trash Chomper to the same length as the left. The torso was next, then the arms. The minifigs from the various vehicles in front of their creation. :) Close up of the minifigs. To be honest I got a bit lazy while building the cement mixer based right arm, and basically re-worked the chassis with a ball and socket joint in the middle, flipped the cab over onto its back and that was about it. I was originally going to use the Flying Flusher for the right leg and the Trash Chomper for the left arm but there weren't enough parts in the Flusher kit to build a leg. In total this has taken about 4 evenings of work, and I tried to only use bricks from one particular kit on each section of the model. In the end I raided the spares box for a few parts, but 99% of this model is made from parts in the five kits listed above. So there we go. Any thoughts/comments welcome. Bear in mind that apart from building some sets following the instructions, I haven't played with Lego for around 20 years! :) -Steve
  2. Metalbeard's Duel was the second lego movie set I bought as I loved the character in the movie when I saw it. I knew they were bringing out the Sea Cow but initially I wasn't convinced it was for me. I watched a couple of reviews on youtube which persuaded me to have another look at the model, and I saw that a shop I drive past on my way home from work was getting them in stock so I decided to go have a look at it, and ended up buying one. I've got quite a few lego movie related sets now, and the sea cow is the centre piece. :) The kit took me two evenings to build and was good fun to put together although a bit fragile. I love the completely mad design and all the intricate details, although I would say it's not particularly play friendly in my opinion as there are so many fragile parts that could get broken off. I might let my 7 year old nephew loose on it when he's down to visit in a couple of weeks, what's the worst that could happen, he'll break it and I'll have to put it back together. :) I have it set up with MiniBeard sitting in his armchair at the controls, sword in hand, and the rest of the figures plus the two micromanagers and the double decker couch, along with the full size Metalbeard, standing next to the ship. I think that makes it look better than having the figures on the ship, as having MiniBeard onboard, and full size MetalBeard next to the minifigs for a sense of scale, gives the impression that the ship should be a lot bigger. If only I had the time and money (and space!!) to build a full size screen-accurate version... :) -Steve
  3. Hi guys, first post here! My name's Steve, I've been playing with Lego since I was 2 (so 33 years). Before the Lego Movie sets came along with the intention of stealing all my hard earned money I'd not bought a set since back in 1999 when I got the Star Wars Y-wing vs Tie Fighter Advance, and then a few years ago the massive Star Wars AT-ST walker. I still love building models and playing with them with my 7 year old nephew, who I took to see the movie last month. We then went to HobbyCraft, and found a big display rack with Lego Movie sets on it. Well, it'd be rude not to buy one each! :D So far I have Bad Cop's Pursuit, Metalbeard's Duel, Super Cycle Chase, and my nephew has the Trash Chomper. I'm very tempted to get Metalbeard's Sea Cow, although I will need to put up a new shelf for it to sit on, and when they're released I'm going to get Benny's Spaceship and the Super Secret Police Dropship. Not too fussed about the collectable minifigs, the 2-in-1's which appeal more to my nephew as he can rebuild them as either version, and the more scenery-based sets, but I may get more in the future. Also I like the look of Emmet's Construction Mech, but I seem to remember the movie version being a hell of a lot bigger which is a little disappointing. I know the same applies to the Sea Cow but iI did hear that if it was made to the design used in the film it would be something along the lines of eight feet long... :P Question is whether to leave some of them in the box or get them all out and build them... Build them sounds like a more fun option. :D Annoyingly enough, I had the chance years ago to buy the Ultimate Collectors Edition Millennium Falcon when it first came out, but I didn't and am now kicking myself looking at how much they go for... :( Fatoran, I've found some of the polybag sets on ebay, I've got a couple of the super secret police enforcers on the way - one for me and one for my nephew. :) The only place I've seen the micro manager battle is in south korea (of all places?). Most of the rare/limited edition sets crop up on there, there are loads of people selling the Piece Of Resistance set for example. Ther is one cheeky individual selling Sea Cow sets about £30 cheaper than anyone else as they've all had the Benny figure pinched out of them, and the same person is selling Benny separately for about £50. I've also seen the Radio DJ robot, Western Emmet, and Pyjamas Emmet for sale, but some of the prices are ridiculous... -Steve
