  1. Such an unusual looking building, so splendidly creepy! I love it, especially the doorway and ground floor window. The story is great too, shall we hear more of the impetuous Daniel?
  2. I love the ground floor, with the courtyard and the stables and the little staircase - just perfect! The snow shots sell it well too.
  3. Damn Angeli, that is a lot of brick... makes for a very impressive embassy! I don't wonder that it weighs a ton. Great idea having the top tower piercing a cloud like that. I can see lots of other nice touches too, like the teeth bars on the windows etc.
  4. Wow, what an amazing looking ship! The shaping is very unique. I saw your video of the ship functions on Flickr too, very impressive! ps. By the way, the photoediting in of the ships wake looks brilliant. Not sure about the white water in front of the paddles - would the water actually behave in that manner? Mind you, the ship looks so unique that you could imagine quite a lot going on below the waterline that might cause that...
  5. Thanks ISC for doing such an awesome job moderating the history forum. Thanks to the Historica guild challenges and general world-building fun, the History forum is definitely my favourite place to hang out on EB! Hopefully you will have more time for Mocc'ing now.
  6. So a couple of weeks ago i attended Brickvention, a LEGO con held in my home town of Melbourne. I'd been last year as well, but this was my first time exhibting, so i was pretty nervous. Anyway, i took some pics of my display at BV so here they are. I was working on it pretty much right down to the night before, and broke it up to bring home, so these are the only pics i have of it - sorry in advance for the busy backgrounds! I called my display “A slice of castle life”. I called it that because i only had enough pieces for a long, thin display, 4.5 by 1 32x32 baseplates to be exact. I wanted to have as many different castle factions in the display as possible, so i had a Lion knight gatehouse, the start of a town with tavern, stables and festival, a underground Wolfpack den (which you can only see from one end) Crown and Dragon knights arriving for a tournament, a viking brewer come to sell his wares, an elf outpost in the forest, a dwarf mine, and a forestman, centaur and werewolf. Phew! Btw, just in case it isn’t absoloutly clear, i mean “castle life” as in the actual LEGO castle theme and not medieval life in general. So yes, it’s my happy peaceful fantasy world where the worst that happens is that the wolfpack plot to steal someone’s cupcakes or something. (That’s pretty bad, actually. Totes needs a gatehouse and elf outpost to defend against those darstardly cupcake thieves!) I won a Judge’s choice award for my display, which was a lovely surprise - yay! :D More pics of the elf outpost. This was my favourite part of the display, i really enjoyed making it, especially the spiral staircase around the tree. I'd love to have a go at making a larger, more intricate elf village someday. Here you can see how the roof from the main "house" in the elf outpost has been adopted (with some modifications!) from the barn roof in the Mill Village Raid. ;) I quite like the interior, although not many ppl noticed it. The Viking brewer arrives with his bodygaurd/escort. The visiting knights approach the gatehouse, as village life goes on all around them - fishing, boating, herding goats etc. A festival is taking place inside the town, to celebrate the upcoming tournament. Here we can see a fortune teller having her palm crossed with silver and a jester performing to the crowd. The tavern in the background is well patronised by locals and visitors alike... But the town does have it's underworld figures - here is the secret Wolfpack den in the forgotton catacombs beneath the town. What dasterdly deeds are they planning? Are no-one's cupcakes safe from these rascals?? ps. In the distance you can see Jennie Sasson's huuuge Quiddich pitch! The back side of the display. I didn't count on this side being visible to the public, so the base was originally a riot of rainbow bricks... some quick n' dirty patching work was nessecary to make it presentable! If you look in the tavern you can also see a gatecrasher... who invited him?? ~~~~~ finis! ~~~~~ And just for fun, this was my display all nicely packed, ready to go to Brickvention... And this is how i brought it all home! All broken up, ready for a mammoth sort. (Which i'm nearly though now, i'm glad to report) What can i say... BV 2012 was a huge, exhausting but amazingly fun three days, with so many brilliant MOC's to look at and admire, i can't even begin to start. (If you want to check out some of the other BV creations, go to Brickvention - Australia's premier LEGO convention on Flickr. Can't wait until next year already! Thanks for looking everyone.. sorry about the gazillion photos!
  7. Wow, so many awesome looking guild embassies! We are going to have a pretty impressive line-up come the 15th, that's for sure. Robuko, your embassy is looking A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. and even better, looks like we'll be neighbours! Sorry everyone that i've been lurking and not posting for so long, Brickvention last month really took it out of me... but i'm back on the Historica stuff now and have started my Nocturnus embassy: And no, it won't have wheels on it, as some wag on Flickr asked me!
  8. Centaur warrior Phrixelle, heroine of Peregrinus, rides to Nocturnus to take part in the gladiator games. She fights for the greater glory of Kaliphlin, but also just because she loves cracking heads and can't resist a challenge! Phrixelle carrys a magical weapon forged especially for her hand, the "three-sided axe of ever hitting", which when swung in anger is fated to cleave to the enemy. In her hand the axe is light and supremely easy to handle, but in another's it becomes so heavy as to render it unusable. She also carrys a spiked buckler and a short sword for close quarter combat. ps. Thanks Angeli and the Drow for orginising these games - what a great idea for a bit of bloodthirsty fun!
  9. I just got the ambulance yesterday and i have to say, i have enjoyed that set more than any other city set i've put together so far. Brilliant playability, loads of accessories, yeah it's huge but whatevs, i just love it. Bring on the hospital and operating theatres Lego, we need them!
  10. Nice little structure Ru, the sand red looks great and i love your little tent!
  11. A wonderful, colourful embassy Kayne! The very different styles of corner towers you have complement each other very well. Great landscaping too!
  12. Well, i've got my money on the wyvern for this bout... the poor knight's lost his horse already! Seriously, nice build, the posing for the wvyern looks great, especially where it is about to strike the knight's shield with it's claws. Great choice of the cow horns for claws too btw.
  13. Great work Evil Stu, i've been keen to see some Moruth builds for a while and this one paints a great little picture of ordinary day to day life in Nocturnus. I love the little backstory as well!
  14. Wow, stunning work Rogueang! I love the cascading effect at the top of tree in particular. The crazy plant life in the swamp also looks amazing, and the interiors are top-notch too. I am also building an embassy in the Moruth (yet to start actually - lol), this will be hard to top!
  15. Wonderful scene! Good to see that Warren Clarke has found another job after playng DS Dalziel for so long...
  16. Ooh, very nice! I might have to pick up a couple if i can find them.
  17. Yes! Great news, and congrats to Tower Lord Basiliscus/Wahil Musca! Truly such a beautiful tower and a true jewel of the south. Nice idea, rougeang, like a little bit of the best of both worlds. :) Wow NM, this is looking amazing - although as always with LDD i am itching already to see it in bricks! I love the tower especially, and the docks area is pretty sweet too. As for trying to make it more obviously Kaliphlin in style, i reckon it's about right the way you have it - the main building itself being Mitgardian, but lots of little touches to make our ambassadors feel at home. Great work! I hope your BL order isn't as bad as you fear. Aw Niku! I saw your Avalonian comp and thought "damn, i wish we had something this awesome for Kaliphlin", and then you go and deliver! Thankyou so much for this! Great music too. Are you doing one for all the guilds?
  18. Only 3 more sleeps to go and i'm still so far behind with my display ... ok, better make it no more sleeps!
  19. Thanks everyone who congratulated me on my tower - i'm just stoked to get some runs on the board for our guild, now lets knock it out of the park with our embassy builds, fellow Kaliphlians! It is interesting to read about the criteria the guild leaders used to select and judge builds - personally i don't like to get too caught up in building to judging criteria. I prefer instead to find my own take on the catagory and invest in my own vision. That's why i'm so excited to be building an embassy in Nocturnus - not much has been defined there in terms of style, so there is the scope to do something really interesting and unexpected. But i can understand why ppl want to know about how the moc's are judged, and i agree with Robuko that rougang's tower was very unlucky to not be selected. (It was one of my fav towers for sure!) All i can say is, it must be a very difficult job for the guild leaders to select the best builds. Ooh, interesting... Wow - great sandworm! Nice find, robuko!
  20. Wow, great work! The back legs and spine look particularly nice. The choice of colours really does give it a dangerous look - like a poisonous toad, just on a much larger scale...
  21. Yessss... thanks for the review LT, this one i have to pick up - i love this country firefighters theme so much! The chainsaw looks pretty neato too. I might have to build my own CFA brigade!
  22. Nice review LT! I quite like the minifig designs, although this set is not for me... i'll be saving up for the hillbilly hick hideout (don't know if that's what it's called, but it ought to be!). I'm guessing you are onto the tip truck next?
  23. Many thanks, most exalted guild leader! Those microscale towers are brilliant and very recognisable - i did lol that you made mine so tall though. Great to see Kaliphlin do so well in the guild standings - long may our mighty towers stand against time and tide! Now i am wondering - are the gold darics just a points system between the guilds, or do the guilds get an opportunity to exchange them for some advantage later on? I do like your backstory for Darlig Ulv-Stranden, Odin's son Fred/Captain Wraith, and that is a great spot for a port and village. Our trading ships shall have to pay you a visit once you get settled! I look forward to seeing how your architecture develops - it sounds very interesting.
  24. Truly amazing work Ryan - love it! Going to be great to see it in the brick at BV! (Woo! I'm getting excited! )
  25. Wow, the power of a tiny bit of pink plastic, that it can incite insurrection like that! I understand though, that kitten in the treehouse set truly is scary... Seriously though, i wouldn't go melting any figs, that s**t can give off some toxic fumes.
