The finest shot in all Peregrinus has declared he shall take part! As well as being a master bowman, Waisur Iarel is the inventor of the "Evergold" archery system, which uses a combination of pulleys, sights and vibration dampeners to acheive greater accuracy. However, the system is still in the prototype stage and has been prone to breakdown in the past. Waisur sees the tournament as the ideal opportunity to test his latest incarnation of the Evergold system against the best in Historica...

Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Gabe replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
Woah dude, that is amazing already! Barqa will be very lucky should you decide to place your build there. Oh, and btw, welcome to Kaliphlin! I liked reading your backstory very much. -
Aw shucks, thanks rogueang! Glad you like it. That jetty planking technique was stolen from Sirens-of-Titan's latest installment of his excellent story, just fyi. As soon as i saw it i wanted to use it! Cheers, fellow guild member! Yep, those new planet peices look quite useful... Thanks kabel. I couldn't agree more... with the number of elements available and all the different kinds of connections, just about anything is possible! (although perhaps not at every scale...) Thanks de Gothia, glad you enjoyed my build.

Great embassy Cristoph - lovely archway and houses! I like the impromtu classroom as well. It's a shame you missed the deadline for the challange, but this makes a great free build.

Lovely bit of backstory to your excellent embassy. I like the base too, the repeating pattern looks very effective!

Haha, great comic strip, love it! Nice use of the minifig stands as front steps too. I'm yet to get any of those snake minifigs, they look great!
-
Wow, what a beauty! I love the shape of your building - the L shape is very welcoming and the door on an angle is just perfect. It kind of reminds me of a university building...? Anyway, it's a refreshing change from the more heavily fortified designs. All the little accents like the tree and the signpost are just perfect too. Great work!

Very nice embassy kabel! Nice to see an port scene. I like your little Mitgardian compound, ideal place for loading and unloading stock. Lots of life with all your minifigs too - great work!

Dude, that is amazing! Beautiful shape - i love the flaring front steps and the way the roof/upper story bulges over the rest of the building. Great stonework and landscaping too, just superb!

A very pleasing, harmonious looking embassy Blockburn! It's nice and compact and i like the idea of contrasting stonework with wooden construction. I agree with some of the other comments regarding the landscaping, that can really lift your moc. You have made a good start with the tree growing out of the side of the structure, just extend that kind of detail out in the surrounding landscape and it will look amazing. The other thing you might want to consider is your rooflines - overhanging eaves look much more realistic and provide more opportunity for ornamentation as well.

This is a very striking embassy bartjuh, although i agree with robuko that it seems more like a millitary watchtower than an embassy. I do like the way that you have intergrated the portico and windows into the tower, and the curved courtyard is quite neat too. It's great that you adressed the access issues within the tower with your staircases, but perhaps in this instance less might have been more - showing an interior highlights just how little room you have to work with, whereas it looks deceptively large seen from the outside.

Dr Rod's Nocturnus Embassy in Hykerbia, Mitgardia.
Gabe replied to Dr Rod's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely embassy Dr. Rod! I think i like the nightime shot the best - so deliciously creepy. It looks like some of the interior light spills through the gaps in the roof tiles - is that so, or is it just reflections? Looks great anyway, like the house itself is mysteriously glowing. -
Nice little embassy Artanis I! I agree with Robuko, you certainly get a better feel for the structure from your Flickr set. I love the summoning scene! I also quite like the sub-ground floor level with the pickets and slats - reminds me a bit of old Queenslanders.
-
Wow, a beaut of an embassy Balthasar! Lovely classic-castle design until you get to that jagged, imposing tower.. great stuff! The snow scene is wonderful too - i'll have to remember that trick with the footprints. ps. i lol'ed at the poor fellow being used as a seat as well - kind of a hard position to negotiate from!
-
Nice embassy there LEGOman273! I like the mottling and dark red stripes in the front gate. The marketplace scene is also full of life and interest. You embassy looks quite spacious inside - did you consider adding some interior scenes to be viewed from the back?

Cheers mate! Yes, a bit of unpicking ahead of me with the trusty crowbar, pity i don't have one of those new plate removal tools yet... Haha, thanks! Yeah, i think i had something different in mind as well... but things kindof changed as i was building. That's the way goes sometimes, hey? Thanks, i really appreciate your feedback Balthasar! I got my last Bricklink parts for the embassy TODAY, timing hey? I'm hoping actually that i can wrangle some more time this week to go back and use them to alter parts of it - try to make it a bit more cohesive. We shall see! Thanks for your kind words NM/Gex! Yeah, when i was thinking about the backstory for this embassy, it figured that a Ambassador/mage would have an oddly shaped building, and i was also thinking about repeating patterns in Islamic art, so that's how the star shape came about. I'm quite happy with the structure up to the open air level, but after that some of the transitions started to go a bit askew. Regarding the hexagonal room, each wall section is attached in the conventional manner to the base, but tethered together only at the top clips - because of the uneven sides (some 9 studs, some 10) nothing lined up perfectly brick to brick. Hence the columns and clips/tubing! Btw, i'll try to take some more pics today of the external stairs if you like, i do quite like the railing. Thanks again!

I saw this beauty earlier but must have forgotton to comment - silly me! I find this really impressive in how thoughtfully it's been laid out. I love the little touches like the supporting beams for the walkways and the ornamentation on the walls is superb. If this is a test building, i can't wait until you start cranking out builds in earnest!

Great embassy Fonzy, a lovely mix of Avalonian and Kaliphlin style. Those nougat ground floor windows and the half timbering on the upper level are the bomb, and the landscaping sets off the house beautifully too. Although i might have put higher fences in the nougat windows if it were me - looks like anyone could just jump through the open windows as they are - now that's taking welcoming a bit too far!
-
You might be dissappointed about not finishing the embassy to the standard that you'd like (i know how that feels!), but this is a great start - it feels very commanding despite it's small size, and has a good connection with the landscaping. I'd love to see you continue it once your BL orders come through. ps. The photoshopping is very effective too!

Wow, great build Gex, this thing is massive! I've been very interested to see how this turned out. It looks very faithful to the LDD images, with those wonderful upper stories and interior spaces. The only thing that niggles at me is the plate-thin ground - it makes the whole thing seem somehow disembodied, not actually belonging to any landscape. But i guess if you built it out anymore it would take it over 48 studs... I guess you could build down on the underside of the plates though, (like stagligtites) as long as you didn't actually touch the ground!

Thanks, your too kind! It's been fun building in Nocturnus. Haha, thanks! I deliberated about using the laser beam half of the death star, but i wussed out in the end. Cheers, glad you like it! Yeah, black and white together is hell to photograph - it does look better in real life, but i did know i was choosing a hard road with this colour combo. Thanks CptMugwash, the dome is indeed the bottom half of the death star - i thought that was quite appropriate to go with the base. The tiles did take a while to place, but it was quite a soothing job actually - put a DVD on the computer and just plug away. I'm not looking forward to unpicking it all though! As for the studs on sides bricks on the base - they are meant to be drainage/ventilation holes for high tides, when the water level rises above the level of the arches. Thanks! Yep, us Kaliphlinians love a good fountain. The only problem with these ones are that the filters constantly need changing - most of Ambassador Vensal's requests to Berigora involve the provision of new pumice filters! Thanks Basiliscus for your kind words. I could not agree more about the busyness of parts of build - the mix of black and white is confusing enough without adding all the small colour accents. My problem was a delayed bricklink shipment of some white and light grey parts, neccecitating the overuse of black, especially at the top of the pillars on the 1st floor. (If only i'd got that GE last year - woe! I knew i'd regret it..) In the end i couldn't wait any longer and just had to get the thing done. I might try again later to take some better shots, or perhaps tear down the top two floors and attempt something else... somehow i don't quite feel like i've finished with this build. Thanks mate! Steal away... i stole the idea first anyway... I totes understand about the black and white thing - i suspect it's something to do with this particular mix of black and white... surely there's got to be a way to make it harmonise a bit better. Haha, thanks! At times during building this i was all "why did i have to make it such an odd shape whyyy...", but it was fun trying something different nevertheless! Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, the external staircase was the obvious soloution, although i'm not sure that i did such a great job with the shape of it - i'd like to make one with a full rotation, but that would mean making the structure much taller and more complicated. It seemed that so many of my inital ideas ended up getting compromised whilst building, never a great position to be in. Oh well, chalk it up to experience! The triangles aren't quite equalateral btw, i didn't really do any maths for this, just made it big enough to fit on a 48x48 base and then fiddled about until it looked vaugely right. If i remember rightly, two opposing sides have slightly shorter base sides. (if that makes sense) It made building the hexagon shape on top of it rather challenging!

Great embassy Scubacarrot, this is a pearler for your first moc! I haven't got a problem with the mottled walls, i think they look really effective and cohesive. The awnings and the large banner also caught my eye - great work! ps. There is a local shopping multiplex a few km's away from us that we always call "Knifepoint" (It's actually called Highpoint) - it was the first thing i thought of when i saw the name of yr embassy. I had to do a double take; "wait, he's built a shopping centre??"

Stunning work Basiliscus! The lighting is sublime and i can't imagine how difficult that stained glass lion would have been to create. Such a shame you haven't had the time to produce an embassy, but this is a magnificent free build.

Nice embassy SkaForHire, it really does have that feeling of a rugged, self-sufficient colony. The ice bound boat is a great touch too, the snow built up at it's sides looks very realistic. I'm well aware of the problems of photographic white bricks too, but you've done a good job of it here. Nicely done!
