Thanks Hexx, glad you like it!
  2. Beautiful build Ecclesiastes, you produce mocs at such a rate that it's difficult to keep up, but this is really is awesome even by your own high standards. I love all the different levels inside the hall, it has masses of character and lots to look at and admire. I also love the setting on the rock, with the steps cut into it and the the tail end of the city wall on one side - i can only imagine how awesome it's going to look joined up to all the rest of your Ondylion builds!
  3. Wow Fonzy, that's just pretty spectacular - love the pillars and wall friezes and the floor inside the temple looks stunning! I really like the effort you've put into the border too, it frames it very nicely. The cheese slopes on the roof is a neat textural effect too. I guess the one thing that i feel is missing is an altar or something inside the temple - it just feels a little bare. But then i guess that might detract from that beautiful floor! Great work, nice to see you back!
  4. Hi all! I have just finished a free build - it is set in Avalonia, continuing the fine old Kaliphlin tradition of gift-giving. Click the picture to go to the topic! Sorry i haven't been around and commenting much lately, btw. I am just about to go and rectify that. Looking forward to checking out the latest in Mpya Stedor. ps. Niiice score with the GE, NM...! Pet Shop for $111 too?? Wow, wish i could afford a buying trip to the US!
  5. Eocher Meosphen travels to Avalonia on behalf of Lord Sansael, partly on trade delegation, but also to deliver a wedding present from the Pergrinian people to Lord deGothia and Lena Chorian. The gift is an small, ornate Kaliphlin pleasure barge, for punting the Avalonian rivers and lakes in style! Eocher himself hands Lord deGothia a private message from Lord Sansael, apologising for not being able to be there in person and wishing the happy couple much future happiness. Lena was the first to leap on board the barge, keen to check out the fine craftsmanship of the vessal. Her courtier hangs back: "Lady Chorian, please be careful, mind your step!" he cries. "Nonsense man!" she admonishes him; "I've sailed the icy rivers of Mitgardia with my brothers since i was a little girl. Why, this deck is as broad and stable as the back of a great northern whale - no danger at all!" The war with Victor Revolword and his elementals seems very far away, with the sunshine gently bringing the flowered vines to life. A straw necked ibis gently cruises nearby, adding to the bucolic scene. "I am surely seeing the finest of Avalonia today", muses Eocher's personal gaurd, as he stands to attention while his master talks with the lord. "Such lush countryside! Such a pleasant change from the heat and dust and bare rock of home. They say the elemental attacks have driven down land prices not far from here - perhaps i should invest in a small country retreat for my retirement?" Thanks for looking peeps, hope you have enjoyed my build! Comments and criticism most welcome as always.
  6. Sweet entry Hexx, that's an interesting idea to build your vig on two bases like that - i'm guessing the area under the bridge doesn't count towards to stud limit? I really like your banner too, very creative. Your figs are nicely put together as well and i like the brick-built weaponry. (Although those exoforce heads always scare me a little! ) Nice work, best of luck!
  7. Ahh, sorry Legonardo that it's taken me so long to get around to commmenting on your entry - it's actually one of my favs! I really like the standard colours and the idea of an island suspended on huge pillars is really cool. The idea of an Elvish/Asian architecture is really appealing too and your build is very solid, with its mottled stonework and pagoda-style roof. Oh, and that griffin!! Beautiful work. Best of luck in the comp!
  8. Sweet build Kai! You really are getting the hang of this microscale stuff, very cool. If i may ask a question though - i may be incredibly dense and missing something, but how is the horizontal bar above the entrance arch attached?

Thanks Dustin! Although i was imagining the island to be more similar in topography/climate to a mix of Papua New Guinea and Thailand, rather than Japan. I tried to reflect that a little in the architecture as well, but the Chinese/Japanese influences does tend to run quite heavily over the top of it. There's still nothing to stop you making your own though! (apart from the contest being closed now - but you could still do it for your own amusement) Thanks robuko, i'm really glad you like it! I really do hope that one of the Asian inspired guilds gets the nod, i'm raring to build more in this style! (Although that would mean saying goodbye to building on floating rocks, or having a dragon-riding guild, or sea elves, or celestials... ahhh, why can't we have 10 extra guilds?? ) Haha, yeah, especially that one on the far left... those eyes freak me out! Thanks DaMaximus! Cheers Ecclesiastes, glad you enjoyed the story and vig. Yeah i know, the figs aren't my strong point, but it's hard to compete with some of the brilliant combos others have put out there in thier entries. Glad you like the pigs/jungle demons though!
  10. 1. Ricecracker and Si-MOCs - 2 5. Dark Dragon - 1 Top work!
  11. Now i can't stop thinking of Leia being chewie's sister.... thanks for that! But yeah, i guess the point is that all good stories tap into existing archtypes (like the unwilling hero, the shaman, the shadow self etc), so there are bound to be similarities in the characters and story arcs. Kinda interesting though that in the case of Ninjago, we don't see Lloyd appear on the scene until nearly a year into the storyline? I guess that makes the first season of Ninjago like Eps1-3 of SW, although it always seemed more like TMNT to me. ps. I only have a passing interest in both of these canons, so forgive me if my understanding is a bit askew!
  12. Thanks, i'm glad you like my entry Ska! Pennamore is pretty boss too - i wouldn't mind building there. In fact, i can't decide which entry is my favourite, there are too many awesome ones. I don't envy the judging panel... Yeah, i really feel for Nocturnus, i almost joined them at the start and it really came down to a toss of a coin to decide which guild to join. They started with about the same number of members as us, but we've certainly been more active. I hear Legonardo is donating them a free build, i'm kinda considering the same thing. (assuming i can find the time!) ps. Your partner is thinking of joining GoH? That's awesome! Hope there won't be too much fighting over parts!
  13. Oh whups, i meant to post this linky to my 5th guild entry here - just click on the pic! And thanks to everyone who made suggestions on my WIP pic - it gave me lots to think about and was very helpful. (Thanks also NM for providing a link to my topic before i got around to it. 'Tis much appreciated mate!) Best of luck to everyone else in the guild who submitted entries btw - Kaliphlin had the most entries in the 5th guild challenge out of all the guilds, really showcases our awesome storytelling skillz! That's crazy news about Angeli - such a silly move on his part to get himself banned. Nocturnus really must be feeling it now. Ok - time to get cracking on my university build... got to leave myself enough time for challenge 5!
  14. Haha, make it a Qarkyr/Mpya Stedor derby instead! Qarkyr needs a bit more love these days anyway.
  15. Yay, you managed to get your vig in, i was hoping you would, 'cause this is a really nice entry with some cool ideas. I love the idea of building on stilts, and building huge, ornate bridges, and the whole premise of honour being gained through what you have built seems perfect for GoH. I like the light, airy nature of your vig, it's ramshackle appearance and improbable architecture is rather charming, and the dark blue roof pops really nicely against the white walls. Best of luck!
  16. Top entry robuko! You always bring something unexpected and unique to the table, and this is no exception. I love the look of the living tree-house, the bending trunks of the palms frame the doorway perfectly. This would be another super guild to build in... best of luck!
  17. Genius little build, good to see that the students at Petraea Uni have a good work/life balance! Love the way it lights up too, looks great. Yeah, we've got our priorities straight, no worries about that!

Thanks NM, i'm glad you like the end result! (and we are familiar with that saying in Aust. too, we just use it to refer to cricket rather than baseball. But the meaning remains unchanged) Much less of the "haunted house" vibe now with the remodelled roof and balcony. I'm sure our guilds would have crossed paths too, especially as yours gets around quite a lot. (Brilliant idea btw, super orginal! ) Aw, thanks Legonardo! Haha, thanks Kai! Give me another 20 studs back and i'll show you how he gets down.. Thanks soccerkid! Yeah, blogged again, it's kinda blowing my tiny mind. I know what you mean about the contest going to be a tough one, not only are there lots of amazing entries, but they are often awesome in different ways. Half the time when i'm reading through them i get ideas for how i would build within that world; there has to be at least half a dozen really different ideas that i'd be stoked to see formed into a 5th guild. Thanks rogueang, i really appreciate your kind words about my moc. I had a stack of fun making it, the roof certainly posed a few challenges to get it to fit together. I atually feel as though my figs were a bit rushed though - i did try to mix things up a bit, but the Ninjago figs were such a good fit that in the end i kinda went "eh, good enough". I do have a soft spot for those snake figs too, they are pretty awesome/unique and it felt good to include them in my world. Can you tell i got the Samurai mech not long ago? A lot of the pieces (and all of the figs) from that set made it into my entry! I also recently treated myself to some of Brick TW's awesome custom minifig accesories, so they are everywhere here too. Aw, you don't like my pigs jungle demons though? Idk, it was sort of a vague stab at a Monkey reference i guess... Yes, you get it! I kinda want to get a stack of Fabuland pigs to make a debauched demon village now... Thanks Mikel! Thanks Kayne! The chrome parts are from Brick TW, who specialise in custom accessories from Chinese history and popular culture. They have some sweet stuff and the quality is very high too, you should def check them out. Thanks Torgar, glad you like it!
  19. What a lovely build to introduce your town with! I especially like the brick-built plant overhanging the wall, the repeating curves throughout the build and the gentle gradient of the white path. The simplicity of the white and blue colour scheme is a really nice fit for Kaliphlin. I look forward to seeing more of Nea Chora!
  20. Great entry rogueang, the background and history is really well fleshed out and i love the diversity in your guilds geography and inhabitants. I really like the way you managed to represent all the various provinces in your guild in your vig as well - nice work! I agree with NM, you really nailed the tree and the lute player on the top level. Best of luck in the contest! ps. Good to see someone else with a hand drawn map too... now i don't feel like such a luddite!
  21. Sweet entry, soccerkid! I really like your vig wth it's multiple levels. It sort looks like the opposite of archaeology - instead of the ppl building on top of ancient fortresses and ruins, they are building down underneath them! The little mining shaft running under the street has to be my favourite part of this solid build. Best of luck!
  22. That's a stunning build Torgar, just perfect. I really like your figs and standard as well. This will certainly be a strong entry - good luck!
  23. Great entry Erynlasgalen, I love the FP microscale castle in your vig, very cool! The blue and gold standard colours suit the guild well too. Best of luck with this strong entry!
  24. Wow Gex, i really like the detailed background to your 5th guild, and the idea of floating islands is a brilliant one. I loved all the details too like "year of the warbling tree-frog" I think you have the first entry (that i've seen, anyway!) to have a brick-built map - nice work. It's a pity that you couldn't get your other vigs done in time, but this is a strong entry for sure!
  25. Guild Name: Temukan Guild Location: Islands of Temukan Capital: Kaalaman Ruler: Hapdan Thanc Unique Characteristics: immune to snakebite, resistant to humid heat, great tea growers and drinkers. Color Scheme: Gold and Black The guild of Temukan is a large complex of islands well to the south of Kaliphlin - nobody knows just how far, as it lies beyond the Mashuak gyre (otherwise known as the crooked sea), a fearsome body of water that confounds even the most canny of navigators. The geography of Temukan is still young, and consists of a still growing mountain range, several grumbling volcanos and many offshore reefs. The fertile lowlands are largely covered by thick jungle and swamps, and the climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons. Temukan is home to many races; humans, snake people, jungle demons and others yet undiscovered within the mountains and on outlying islands. Humans are by far the most numerous on the east coast of the main island, while the jungles to the west are dominated by fierce jungle demons. The large south-east island is home to the snake people. Hapdan Thanc is the hereditary monarch of the Temukan guild, and his banner is black and gold. The Hapdan's have ruled the guild for many generations, although the power of the monarch is now mainly limited to traditional ceremonies, and an oligarchy of powerful nobles runs the guild on a day to day basis. However, the military is still loyal to the crown, and with the discovery of new maps that could lead to a passage to rest of Historica, Thanc sees an opportunity to wrest back control from the nobles. The military of Temkukan is varied depending on the province. Near the capital of Kaalaman, there is open ground for cavalry. The best pikemen are agreed to come from the south, from the cities of Sungam and Arungan. The best archers and the fastest ships come from the north, in the tea-growing province of Kota. Society is highly ordered into castes, with nobles wearing highly coloured and decorated clothing, while farmers, trademen and monks wear much more simple and practical clothing. Among the most facsinating and secretive races on Temukan are the snake people - they are renowned as healers and craftsmen on the main island. Legend has it that a former king was healed by a snake shamen, and since then, the totem of the Hapdans has been the snake in rememberance of that debt. All snakes and serpents are considered as equal to humans, and it is forbidden to harm them. If bitten, it is an easy matter to buy anti-venom (made and sold by the snake people) at the local markets, thus it is extremely rare for anyone to die of snake bite. But not all races are freindly towards humans - the jungle demons of the western jungles have an insatiable appitite for human flesh, and often appear as huge, misshappen pigs to terrify thier opponents! The province of Kota has the most trouble with them, and suffers raids from time to time. The royal teahouse in Kaalaman. Tea is a revered beverage in Temukan, and various blends are said to have healing and calming properties. The king himself turned one of his many grand residences in the capital into a teahouse, and it is a popular place for wealthy merchants and nobility to meet. A monk leaves the teahouse, having had his mind refeshed with a strong cup of mountain tea. A noble pores over a new map with the captain of the gaurd, while a snake craftsman enjoys a cup of tea in the background. On his private balcony, Hapdan Thanc meditates on the opportunities presented by the possibility of a reliable passage to the rest of Historica. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seperate thread here... thanks for looking!
