  1. I feel like Children of Hurin would make a better film adaptation than Silmarillion which would be too involved for most audiences and probably require it's own trilogy (at least). Yep, 100% finances before fandom.
  2. I believe Tolkien referenced this somewhere in the Appendices, under "crazy **** I would never write"
  3. I'm just quoting this for emphasis; guys you're really not going to get anything substantial by writing and asking a CSR for info about the line. Even if they had the information (which they likely do not) disclosing it before the official release would cost them their job if they were caught (and surely LEGO logs/monitors their CSR conversations like any other corporation) Even if this were the only way a 3rd wave could make it to the shelves, I really hope this doesn't happen. The whole 3D gimmick gets on my nerves, especially when watching the non-3D version of a film and the, "Wooooah watch out, that thing is coming right at youuuuuuu!" moments are noticeably isolated sequences. I will say that IMAX 3D is at least watchable, but I'm never going to see another one of those "Real3D" releases.
  4. I'm right there with you. Yes, I can see the problems with the hobbit film just as there were issues with LotR, but I just love Tolkien's mythology so much that I can look past it. Say what you want about the films, but the depth and quality of the fantasy world Tolkien created, especially when he created it, is without rival in my opinion. To speak to someone else's earlier comment comparing LotR/Hobbit to Game of Thrones, yeah not so much. I'm a big GoT fan and have read up on a lot of the histories (eventually I'll read the books) and while it's definitely well developed it doesn't even come close to what Tolkien was able to accomplish. Also worth noting that the target audiences are about as far apart as you could hope for (HBO sexytime gorefest vs. funtime dwarves on an adventure) Lord of the Rings Online has been using rams as mounts since the Mines of Moria expansion in 2008. I'd say this was likely borrowed from there if anything as this is a licensed WB property. Having said that, I'm very happy they decided to go with these over the boars.
  5. true, if you're looking to be part of an image community or keep an archives of your pictures then create an account. I was just trying to offer the simplest method since he was attempting to link from an email attachment, so I'm assuming isn't the most tech savvy individual ;)
  6. yeah I agree lots of them are great and I'd like to be able to display them, but tbh LEGO is on the bottom rung of my collecting priorities. I'm mostly into collecting vintage minifigs like Battle Beasts and Monster in my Pocket. :)
  7. Well, not technically true, but might as well be ;)
  8. I'm with you on this; I might just pick up the figures directly from eBay or BL this time instead of buying the sets retail. All the bricks from the sets I currently have (all of them) are in ziplock bags in storage except for Bag End and the Goblin King's throne. The figures are all I display as I just don't have enough shelf space for the rest of it. With that in mind, I've actually been meaning to ask if there is any re-sale interest for the full sets without the figures themselves? I know I've seen some people mention that the Black Gate requires two sets to make a "true gate" so I guess someone would be interested in that, but unsure about the others.
  9. Personally, I wouldn't create a Flickr account just to hotlink images to forum. There a plenty of free services like imgur that you can use to upload images without creating an account. They simply provide you with the URL after the upload and you're done.
  10. "Gandolf" *facepalm*
  11. don't worry. I live in the US Midwest and SDCC is just as inaccessible to me ;)
  12. Hey everyone, I've been here for a few months but this is my first trading post. However, I have extensive positive feedback on littlerubberguys.com and eBay under the same username so you can deal with me confidently. :) I'm currently only looking for a one Simpsons figures to complete my set. Please contact me if you would like to trade! I am located in the U.S. Midwest and would only be interested in domestic trades, thanks. Needs Maggie Haves Here are the extra figures I have available. Series 9 Forest Maiden x2 Judge Police Officer Series 11 Diner Waitress Welder Scientist Constable x2 Series 12 - LEGO Movie Calamity Drone Larry the Barista x2 Abraham Lincoln Series 13 - The Simpsons Marge Apu Lisa Itchy Chief Wiggum x2 Homer
  13. I don't think this was being disputed anyway, but I fail to see how you're connecting this to an SDCC reveal?
  14. Gotcha; just threw me off since you capitalized the first "The" in the acronym and omitted the second one ;)
  15. Is this supposed to be an acronym for The Lord of the Rings? What happened to "LotR"?
  16. I'd have to put emphasis on the "basically". I was still seeing a few DoS sets in Walmart into April. Also, interesting that no one mentioned buying from Amazon? Availability on there is pretty static for the most part and you can even still get (most) Wave 1 LotR sets without much of a markup. All the Hobbit sets are up at practically MSRP. Prices for new sets usually spike right when they're released (when only one or two sellers have them listed) but they always settle back down to at or decently below MSRP within a week or so. I've purchased most of my LotR and Hobbit sets this way, though I guess having a Prime account does help regarding shipping.
  17. I get what you're saying here, but this is technically all speculation, right? I mean, we don't have any confirmation that they ever actually had any materials printed with the TaBA title that I'm aware of. Unless we have some sort of official production schedule, which i think it's clear we do not, it's hard to say with any certainty that the relationship with PJ is strained. Obviously there was a problem with the Wave 1, denoted by the "preview" sets, but wasn't that decision made relatively later into the process? Maybe that alone caused them to be more cautious when producing the product ASAP? GoT LEGO would be awesome, but yes that would never happen.Who wouldn't want a Hodor minifigure? :D gave me chills...
  18. That's a great point. I think the most "embarassing" moment I can recall from the LotR trilogy is the, "Meriadoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took...I might have known!" introduction. Makes me cringe every time ;) Also aware that I've steered this conversation was off topic (not that there's anything to discuss at the moment...)
  19. There's a pretty strong consensus that the LotR films were superior with regards to writing and production. I mean, I know awards aren't always the best way to judge a film, but if you compare LotR's awards to The Hobbit, it makes a good argument. The Hobbit trilogy has the upper hand in visual effects and action/battle scenes, which means it's going to play to a younger and/or wider audience. I've been a Tolkien fanatic for most of my life so I love it all, but I think it's obvious that PJ went in a different direction with The Hobbit, and I think this is fair enough when considering the literary contrasts between the books.
  20. No, the epic deGrasse Tyson eyeroll was aimed at PJ/Weta. Not sure why would assume I meant it towards either of you. moving on.
  21. 10:1 chance they also have a boilerplate email for old lines that would end with "the license period has expired". as others have mentioned it's entirely possible for a company to hold licensing rights and not do anything with them. LEGO paid for the licensing rights so even if the line was decidedly unprofitable enough to prevent a third wave, they have no motivation to cancel the license ahead of schedule. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for a third wave as much as anyone, but let's not delude ourselves picking apart negligible information simply for a lack of anything substantial.
  22. Expressing disappointment in a ridiculous idea that both of you confirmed was actually being considered. Calm down.
