I'd go with the current model (9493) or 6212 if you're going for a minifig scale model. 9493 was in my opinion the more accurate and sturdier model, but 6212 has Wedge in it as well has several rare figures, so I'd be more tempted to go with that if you can find it.

This reminds me of something I'd love as a kid. Thanks for the review, I can't wait to get my hands on this one, as well as perhaps a few of the others. Love the detail on the pilot, gotta update my Rogue Squadron with them.

Does anyone own/have opinions on the new Microfighters sets? I am most interested in the X-wing set, mainly for the new Rebel Pilot design, but I've been wondering what the opinion on them is, and since the US can't have them yet I can only ask.
