LEGO Hidden Side 2020

And... how do you know they are using the "classic shark" mold? And if you mean this as the "classic shark" mold... that's a variation of the first shark mold from 1989 which did not have painted colored eyes. In fact it had dents for the eyes. -

It was LOTR34 but I see it was likely as speculative as everything else about HS' future. I did recall from the one magazine that came out last year HS planned for a second theme, which clearly was way rushed. -
Hidden Side VS Monster Fighters
kelceycoe replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I've never heard this and I used to manage a Lego Monsters Web site with archived articles with facts from the designer. But there definitely have been many MOCs of Haunted Houses and even Castles way before this set, just no hard facts that connects the set to being someone else's CUUSOO project, just a developer's design. Why are we comparing/contrasting between only MF and HS? Why not 2002's Studio Monsters and Scooby Doo? I had a lot of issues with MF when it came out. But overall I enjoyed them (after all, I own ALL of them including most of the accessories, books, clocks, keychains, etc) However, even after buying the HS Juice Bar and HS Lab, I'm not impressed. Clearly a "Stranger Things" ripoff... and a bad one. Not just because its young, stupid hipster rich kids (which ironically might actually sell better thanks to Ghostbusters: Afterlife) but its cheap citizen-to-spirit transformations and transformative buildings. (Don't get me wrong, I love Stranger Things as much as the next person, probably more for its nostalgia and horror elements, but even the creators are growing tired of it and let's be honest, do we really want it to become the next TWD where people outgrew that fad quicky?). And I'm not upset with the direction of GB: Afterlife having kids play with the equipment... not quite Stranger Things and definitely not some cheesy sissy-megablocks HS with kids "busting ghosts" using their expensive Mom&Dad-purchased cellphones.) Yes, they may be more detailed, but they are also based on the present, not the Gothic eras MFers were based, when they didn't have as many accessories (although I love the grandfather clock and Halloween accessory set since it expanded the cemetery and gave us the witch that presumably caused the female MFer's scar, I absolutely hate the VooDoo doctor being replaced by another Zombie Driver and to this day, hate that we didin't get some kind of medieval knight wall plague or statue, we only got the helmet in a trunk in the attic). And like many people already said, MF had the better minifigures and HS had more detailed sets, although I think the high school was too involved, the HS ghost train is lackluster to the MF ghost train, the HS light house is less involved (but a worthy purchase) than SD's light house, and the Amusement Park is best replaced by Jokerland. I am impressed with a possessed pizza delivery boy from HS magazine (he'll fit nicely in front of my Ghostbusters Firehouse with my Pizza truck and hotdog stand and slimer lol). The "subway" (why god why) is a joke yet the tree, echoing sentiments from 2002 Studio's Werewolf and 2012's MF werewolf set, strangely isn't bad. The school bus is an oversized joke - reminds me of a Fischer-Price bus I used to own as a kid) and the shrimp shack isn't as impressive as first thought. The shrimp boat pairs well... and better... with the lighthouse. -

Ahem... excuse me but when did MF ever release a second wave? If by that you mean the Haunted House that's a long stretch. That single theme will CLEARLY outlast this joker "three waves within one year" theme. Hate to say it... but I told you all so. The only way AR works is if ALL the basic pieces are there, at least, to build and play with the set independent of the AR. We knew AR worked well before HS... Pokemon Go proved that. HS doesn't win any accolades for contributing to AR... if anything it gets swept under a rug, forgotten about, and a theme that sells poorly in the secondary market that no one wants except for the sake of feeling important and being a completeness (aka Galidor). -
I remember the video game era of the '90s, specifically the fighting game era, and just recalling rumors about Mortal Kombat... about Ermac, Reptile as a playable character in MK1, etc... rumors are not always based on "insider information" or actuality - many are based on ill-conceived fan assumptions.

Please... not these "Lego stole from this or that" again, especially as it relates to Ghostbusters. Stranger Things had the little dude as a ghostbuster first, not to mention and as already stated above, Ghostbusters and Scooby Doo came way before the craptastic of a theme. -
Will Hidden Side Age Well?

Not when LEGO jumped the gun and already made the sets in the first place. I don't know if you've been paying attention to their corporate literature but LEGO is desperate and not in very good shape right now. -

Is everyone aware these leaked books for the Hidden Side theme reveal a TV series coming next year? Hopefully it brings a better third wave and one that has better ghosts and not rely on the app for those. Still waiting on that large, terrifying teddy bear ghost. Book link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Guide-Ghost-Hunting-Minifigure-Hidden/dp/1338613057 And in case Amazon deletes it: Step into the haunted town of Newbury and become an expert ghost hunter in this in-world guide based on LEGO Hidden Side toys and TV show! Plus, it includes a Hidden Side minifigure! The LEGO Group's newest IP, LEGO Hidden Side hits stores in fall 2019 with eight toy sets, followed by a TV series and even more toys in 2020! Kids can interact with these building sets using an augmented reality app that brings the models to life, using a smart phone or tablet camera to reveal a hidden world of interactive mysteries and challenges to solve. It's a whole new world of play! Welcome to the haunted town of Newbury, home of the LEGO Group's newest original IP. In this new series of adventures, kids will join brother-and-sister duo Jack and Parker as they work to track down and reveal ghosts in order to turn their haunted town back to normal, one ghost at a time. This guide will be narrated by the main characters of the toys and TV show, and work with the LEGO app for an interactive reading experience all about finding and capturing ghosts! Plus, it comes with a LEGO minifigure! FYI: If you live here in the USA you can usually buy, on the cheap, many LEGO/minifigure books from a store called Ollies. Maybe at Big Lots, I haven't checked. Dollar General/Family Dollar don't appear to sell Lego books yet. I think I have seen 1 or 2 at Gordmans. -
Will Hidden Side Age Well?
kelceycoe replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hate to say it but I called it! I said HS would be a fad theme and will lose relevance after the app expired, not to mention the slew of problems already discussed among us AFOLS. Had the sets been built more solid and less app-dependent it would have had a viable chance. Unfortunately LEGO invested too much money into an idea that business analysts said was a failure from the start and they are forcing themselves to release this junky Wave 2 to save face and make back all the money lost on this theme. The school would be way better if it were bigger. It's way too crowded, something LEGO has been doing. Bring back the Simpsons House or Haunted House. As for people saying MF won't age well... um, you do know most of our horror films from which MF derived are from the "gothic 30s" era right? I didn't like the steampunk component for that theme but it was still a solid monster theme where its rooms in its buildings or vehicles weren't crowded. All HS ever was is a way for LEGO to try and capture this Pokemon Go craze. Only in a safer way since the ghosts are in the set and they don't have to go outside looking for ghosts. Plus... and I have noticed this with LEGO... I feel like they will be getting the license back for the new Ghostbusters movie sets (Playmobil has it now) and they wanted a theme to carry interest into it. MF was actually more of a carry-over theme for Scooby Doo, since if you look at the original designs for the MF theme, it pretty much was Scooby Doo. Unfortunately those wacky color schemes don't mesh well with MF's seagreen colors. -

I'm not sure why links weren't posted since the leaked images are from Lego's server and not leaks but here they are: https://brickset.com/sets/year-2020?query=30000-30999 Love the hotdog stand. It will go well with the GB Firehouse. The cannon can go with all that El Fuego crap or with the Ghost Fair. -

Disappointing. I was hoping the Fair would be decent but am turned away. The lightjouse looks to be a solid build but practically the same one from Scooby Doo. I'll likely buy the tree portal for my forest. Not convinced yet on Ghost Fair. -

I've said that already... in one of the HS posts. As well as other fans.

I can say that I am way more hyped for a few HS sets from the 2020 leaks than I am for 2019. The animated shorts I've seen are better than the sets. From poor box art design to there being a lot of things that don't make any sense (like the photo lab set) without having the app to fully understand it. I thought it was another Frankenstein set and realized it's a monster invading a ghost lab with 3D printing. Add to the fact these kids (the minifig kids) use their phones to zap ghosts in the real world... it's way too Pokemon Go for me. It's trying to be some kind of mashup of Stranger Things / Ghostbusters with a high school theme, not quite like Monster High but close. It doesn't do the trick. For the 2020 sets to work, they must be fully independent of the app. I mean they can include the interaction sticker but don't add things to the set (like the entire back of the ghost lab) that have no explanation to someone just looking at the set. That's why I really love the juice bar set. It stands alone great. You can leave it as a juice bar... and anyone knows it's at least a food booth. You can turn it into its haunted/spooky self... and to the lay person it looks possessed. But the "Ghost Lab?" Is it supposed to be a room for the high school because that'll be about the only thing that made sense for it. The graveyard doesn't even look like a graveyard. I still have the Zombies set from MF and the original Graveyard Duel from Harry Potter - those are graveyards. That is just a joke. The high school is crammed with too much in such little space. I know it's to save money but holy cow, give me some Leo bricks with my Lego accessories. The school bus... too bulky although I'm aware it's used to hunt ghosts. The diner looks like a shrimp shack I ran into on the north shore of Hawaii. Not someplace you really want to stop at. These are just a few examples of how the first wave fails. The second wave, with finally mixing a circus theme with horror, shows promise.

where is the leak? -
Well this definitely makes the theme much more sppealing and interesting.
-
Yes, according to the English translation from the article, which I posted above, they are fire ghosts.
-
Yea but these "ghost minifigs" are fire ghosts, noted to be along the lines of those from Nexo Knights.

As I posted in the 2020 thread, Parker will have a variant where her cap is removed and her purple hair is revealed: (I forget the source but it is listed in the 2020 thread, this was me just translating it using Google) Also, there is no gas station, it's a mini-train of sorts. Personally, although I've not been a fan of this theme, I do love the Ghost Fair but I hope it's not as underwhelming as described by the user who's seen it. But 5 minifigures for what, $50 or $60 and red rails, isn't bad either. There will be new minifigures that deliver more options and open the world to many more possibilities down the road as we have seen with the four-armed minifigures. We now have double-headed and leaning, "bent" minifigures to look forward to thanks to this wave. According to Google Translate: We now have the first information from the next LEGO Hidden Side Set wave, which will most likely be published in late December / early January 2020. LEGO Hidden Side - Hidden Side Portal (70427) 4 Minifigures - 19.99 Euro - 189 Pieces LEGO Hidden Side - Jacks Beach Buggy (70428) 3 Minifigures - 19.99 Euro - 170 pieces LEGO Hidden Side - El Fuego's Stunt Airplane (70429) 3 Minifigures - 29.99 Euro - 295 parts LEGO Hidden Side - Newbury Subway Station (70430) 3 Minifigures - 29.99 Euro - 348 parts LEGO Hidden Side - The Lighthouse of Darkness (70431) 4 Minifigures - 49.99 Euro - 540 Pieces LEGO Hidden Side - Ghost Fair (70432) 6 Minifigures - 49.99 Euro - 466 parts Let's take a closer look: The Hidden Side Portal looks like a dark Harry Potter version of Aragog's hideout - but without a huge spider, but with a darker tree. Exactly this tree is supposed to represent the portal. Where will this portal lead? Maybe the light blue and thus frosty-looking treetop reveals this. But the minifigure of Jake is very cold. What's a little irritating about this set are the two fire ghosts - Nexo Knights sends greetings. The two sets, numbered 70428 and 70429, could also be attributed to the LEGO Creator 3in1 team. Because the beach buggy and the stunt airplane come in the almost typical colors blue / yellow. Only interesting should be the double-headed spirit beach buggy set. The Newbury subway station looks a little small at first glance, if one thinks of the other train stations of LEGO. This is also shown by the indicated tracks, which are only two nubs apart. Otherwise, a slightly grim set with the minifigures of Jake, Parker and a ghost construction worker. Highlights are certainly the two largest sets with 540 and 466 parts. The Lighthouse of Darkness is similar to the LEGO Scooby Doo Set 75903 Haunted Lighthouse, just adapted to the Hidden Side theme. Furthermore, it fits well as a berth for the Hidden Side shrimp cutter (70419) . Once again Parker is among the four minifigures, but for the first time without her cap and thus with open, purple hair. Well and with the set ghost fair, also holds the quite new roller coaster rail system at Hidden Side feeder. Where fair is a bit over the top, because it is a ride with accessories. Part of a ghost train, which consists of three red rails. In addition, the visitor of the train is greeted by a ghost clown who denounces high above the track. Fittingly, the set includes Jake, Parker and JB (a sensational scientist), three fantastic fairground employees.

Well, remember that first animated Scooby Doo movie? The rest of the world got it in November of that first year of the launch and we here in the USA didn't get it until next year on a blu-ray release with another one. So I'm guessing it comes later possibly next year.
