TECHNIC Sets from 2010
eMHa replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, Seeing my own kids playing, my opinion is that TLG wants to be safe about complaints! If parents think it's safe to play with the excavator in the sandbox but gets damaged while sand (or other dirt) gets into the motors or the transmission system they would claim TLG for this. And you know how many parts get damaged in a truck trial? Think about it if TLG has to replace every part which gets damaged!? But I have the same opinion, if you're careful and know what you're doing and don't complain TLG if parts get scratched or damaged it's safe to play outside in the dirt. Remember, the set is supposed for the age from 11 to 16. We're AFOLs! -
TECHNIC Sets from 2010
eMHa replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, and now in the german shop.lego.com. Today I discovered 8043, 8053, 8052 and 8051. -
Hi dluders, Thank you, but it's no technical problem on my side. I get the message: "Dieses Video enthält Content von Sony Music Entertainment. Es ist in deinem Land nicht mehr verfügbar." "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It's in your country no longer available." I assume the music in the video has some copyright

Welcome! I'm also glad to see another Technic fan When I look at your collection I would say you hadn't any dark age? This is enviable!

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
eMHa replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, and today arrived a new LEGO catalog "Sommer 2010" (germany) in which the Technic sets 8052 (Container-Truck, 59,99EUR), 8053 (Mobiler Kran, 99,99EUR), 8043 (Motorisierter Raupenbagger, 159,99EUR) and 8051 (Motorrad, 39,99EUR) are offered. Seems the new sets become available now in germany. -
Thank you :-) Yes, it's heartbreaking! But only because I knew how many parts I've broken when I was young! I mostly kept my broken parts (you never know where you need them) and also showed them my boys, so they can see that this is no good. But well, they have to learn by themselfs. Yes, I've seen there flickr groups with LEGO and Technic. But till now I was unsure if I should get a account there. I'll look into this. Thank you. Very nice welcome :-)

Hello, my nickname is eMHa and in my profile I've a little description about me and my LEGO history. I'm very interested in Technic. Yesterday I finished 8297 :-) I started to come out of my dark age in 2008 but I'm still struggling with the lots of informations and website, blogs, communities and so on in the internet. So for now I've created a brickshelf account and I'm still sorting out how to put my images on it the best way. Also EB seems to satisfy my information needs. If someone wants to track my internet activities since 2008 it would be like: * Oh, I'm not alone ;-) http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFOL * Great what others made: http://www.dennisbosman.nl/lego/english.html * Wow: http://www.jenniferclarkbass.com//lego/index.htm * Find out what sets I've missed since my dark age begun: http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=*technic&qn=280 * What new parts are in these sets: http://www.peeron.com/ * What the heck, LEGO is also in school: http://www.lego-in-der-schule.de/ * Reviews to better sort out what I have to buy first: http://alumni.cse.ucsc.edu/~dulcaoin/reviews/noframes/index7.html * Oh, you can buy parts seperately: http://www.bricklink.com/ * A lot of pictures: http://www.brickshelf.com/ * Explanation of new and changed parts: http://isodomos.com/technica/technica.html It was hard to convince my mom that I want my LEGO parts from my parents attic for ME and not my children ;-) OK, ok, I exclusivley build in association with my two boys. But my children only are allowed to play with MY LEGO parts when I'm with them. They have their own LEGO. My wife gave them her LEGO. And my two boys also got really a lot of new LEGO sets, mostly LEGO city and LEGO System. Also a few small Technic sets. I stringently differentiate between MY parts and THEIR parts, because my boys are really lazy about their parts, and often they break parts or scratch them on the floor... I have a lot of fun to build with my two boys. Sometimes I wish I could build alone, to have silence to concentrate. On the other side, building alone is not that fun! So I'm really amazed what we've build "together" till now. When I find the time I'll fill my brickshelf folder. I've taken digital pictures of all creations I've made AFTER my dark age, so it should be easy for me to fill my brickshelf folder, but I've still to sort out how to do it best. I've found two pictures (on paper) from before my dark age. One was a remotely controlled truck (2 axle) and one is a helicopter. Also I've found a paper where I noted the dimensions of a truck (3 axle plus 1 axle the trailer) I've build. It's nice to see people do the same now on the internet :-D Perhaps sometimes I can scan these pictures and also upload to brickshelf. Well, but time is rare for me. I'm self-employed and I try to use most of my spare time with my family (my wife, my twins [nearly six years old boys] and my doughter [15 month old]). So playing and building LEGO is mostly done in winter at the weekends. Because for my work I sit a lot on my computer I've already installed MLCAD and LDD and so I'm able to design a little while I'm not at home. (Btw. was anyone of you able to use LDD on Linux with wine? Since the new LDD version (with universe mode) it doesn't work anymore with wine!?) I really like to see what others build with Technic and I also like to share MOCs with the community. But for me the most relevant thing is to understand and see how the technics work. So, uhm, it's gotton a lot what I've written, that's it for now. Hello said eMHa :-)

Selling MOCs would never come to my mind! It's like others said, it's like selling your own child. I'm always happy if I have enough parts to build something. If I miss some parts to build something I look mostly into new sets if I can get the parts there. It would be awful if I had sold a MOC and realise later that I need parts of it to build something other! We're in the digital age, create your model with MLCAD or LDD to share it. If someone really wants you to sell your model, I'd buy the parts separately to build and sell the model (like others have suggested). Additionally, like others said, re-buying the parts you miss because you sold a MOC is more expensive in the end mostly.

In my humble opinion TLG tries on one side to keep the number of colors low, so that you get more parts from one color. So it's easier to build MOCs in one color. On the other side, TLG tries to introduce few new colors if they think it's needed. Orange would be a good main color. There are already few orange parts available. If the next supercar is a orange Lambo this would be great. Orange can also be used for construction vehicles. So my hope and wish is orange for the next new major color in Technic.

On carpet you have a lot of rolling friction. The greater the wheels the more rolling friction you have. I got this while putting PFs into 8048. I used the M motor, because there's not much space inside. I tested a few combinations and I found out that the less gearing you have, the more power you get to the floor. Putting the M motor near the drive axle with using only the gears http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32269 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32270 I got most power. Putting the motor where the seats were and gearing with a lot of http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/4019 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32072 (still using http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32269 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32270 to have the same gear ratio) from the axle up to the motor I lost a lot of power! So my assumption is, that you loose power with the XL motor if you gear a lot up while with the M motor you don't have to gear much down to have a reasonable speed. (With 40:8 the friction of the axle where the 8-tooth is does slow down more, because of the gearing. With 20:12 the friction of the wheel axle doesn't slow down that much.) Friction is really a important point while gearing up and down with PF motors.

Technic - "old" vs "new"
eMHa replied to Hobbes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, yes. I thought I just read from the beginning in this forum And the topic isn't old at all if you look at the discussions like studless vs. with studs and so on. -
Technic - "old" vs "new"
eMHa replied to Hobbes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello, please excuse if the following will sound a little sarcastically. You would like to build with 2x4 bricks only ;-) It's to say that the old "angle connectors" were very weak and in my childhood I broke a few of these. For me "old" vs. "new" is like "past" and "future". OK, I came out of my dark ages in 2008 and I was shocked that all models are studless. First I hate these studless things. First thing I've done after my dark age was to buy 8880. This was the style I knew and something like the peak of the LEGO Technic I knew. But while assembling 8880 I relised there were a lot of new parts I didn't knew. Then I bought 8275, mainly because of its remote functions. I always wanted a remoteley controlled LEGO vehicle. The first MOCs with studless were very wrong. I tried to build like with studs, but it didn't had the stability. After last christmas (and after 8048, 8046, 8264 and 8265) I realised a few studless things which enlightened me. It seems, coming out of my dark age, that studless is really different. But it is only the logical evolution Technic has made. If you build with studs the bricks have a alignment, and if you turn the bricks, like 90° which is common in Technic, nothing of the normal bricks matches anymore! You always have a gap. So in my opinion, Technic has evolved LEGO. I think it's groundbreaking (in therms of LEGO) to say you can rotate a Technic brick beam in 90° steps in any direction and it matches, like the studless beams! This is a new view of the parts! Formerly the bricks had at least a top and down. But with studless, there's no top and down anymore! It's like a new degree of freedom. And the best is, that the studless parts evolved from the Technic bricks with studs. In some way it's possible to combine them! That's great! Speaking about new parts, TLG always creates new parts! Hey, if the hadn't created a new part since 1980, no one would buy anymore any LEGO! But the good thing is, new LEGO bricks/beams were always be able to be combined with "older" parts in some way. So for now, I like to build studless, but I use "old" parts with stud when needed. If it's better for some special case to build with studs, I'll build with studs. My "old" and "new" Technic parts are all sorted equal side by side. So my conclusion is: Technic - "old" AND "new" There's no vs. in my mind (anymore). -
[REVIEW] 8043 - Excavator
eMHa replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, calm down ;-) It's just about that TLG is very picky about their parts put together correctly. And for me it's good to know TLG will put pieces together in a way they don't recommend. So this finding is only an excuse to myself if I put the parts together in a way it's not recommended. :-D And for sure, I'll buy this set! No one has to convince me since I saw the first pictures of it! -

Ah, now I see. LDD also won't let me connect a beam to this. Thank you. -

I don't see any problem, see attached image, created with LDD. The technic pin is displaced about 1/2 stud, but it does fit. Have I overseen something?
