Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
ZeldaTheSwordsman replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Let's see... Creator-style Naboo Starship set that can be built as any of Padme's ships. They're the most overdue of all for representation and all have featured in important scenes, while Darth Maul's ship that does even less on-screen than the Slave I pre-AOTC has gotten five different minifig-scale versions. And a Creator-style set seems like a good way to handle them all. TLG to relearn that Imperial TIE Fighters have BLUE HULLS Non-UCS redux of Jango Fett's Slave I. It's good that we're getting the UCS version because the thing is way overdue for any sort of revisit, but UCS is a tad extra for a lot of people. Bounty Hunter Pursuit redux New Boga; she's well-overdue for a return, especially after we got a new version of Grievous' wheel bike. Count Dooku's Solar Sailer redux; the old one's good even if it's got no sail, but it's been years and the price is now "Oh god, why" New/reissue CIS Vulture Droid; a new one would be neat since there's still room for improvement with the walking mode. And in any case, we need one that isn't priced at "Oh god, why" * New, single-piece Buzz Droid minifig to go with it. The brick-built ones are just too big & kinda clunky Trade Federation colors version of same * New, non-brick-built Droideka minifig to go with it; every brick-built Droideka has been scuffed to some degree or other, and none since the original have been able to do wheel mode; I'd say it's past time they bit the bullet and just made an actual minifig New Droid Tri-Fighter (or even just a design recycle of the TCW one; I favor that for reuse over the 2014 version due to actually having the underslung missiles) New Hyena Droid; it's been a hot minute and the original's walking mode was horrendously scuffed compared to the on-screen appearance Episode III Duel with Dooku - it's a key scene in the movie, but has never been done. Invisible Hand Bridge Escape - would make for a fun setpiece, and it'd be a way to give us more MagnaGuards Obi-Wan's blue Jedi Interceptor redux, ideally once again with the hyperdrive ring. Hopefully with the designers being given an actual orthographic this time around. Anakin/Vader's green Jedi Interceptor; not as necessary from a design quality standpoint, but price/availability definitely say we could use a new release Ahsoka's Delta-7B redux Blade of Dorin redux Mace Windu's Delta-7B redux; these last three probably aren't the highest priority, but the first four Clone Wars Delta-7s were all kinda awkward, in many ways being worse versions of the Episode II one from 2002 (they lack the sharpness that one had). New/reissue Clone Wars Y-Wing New V-19 Torrent Fighter, perhaps forgoing the gear-driven wings that made the original so big and pricy New Twilight New B-wing; it's been a while, and the 2014 one was kinda scuffed. Too much space between the S-foils and the main wing New non-UCS standard Republic Gunship, with the door turrets being both double-jointed and able to tilt down New UCS Naboo Starfighter Rebel & Resistance capitol ship playsets New Hailfire droid in the vein of the Technic one, or even a reissue of the Technic one. The System ones to date have been too small and have had to cheat on the wheels. Senate Commandos or Guards with plumes New Battle Droid & Super Battle Droid minifigs with separate legs. If we ever get more Legends stuff.. The Havoc, and a Sabaoth Fighter -

Oh man, having to re-type a long post because you accidentally bumped the F9 key. Can users turn that feature off? First, you're dead wrong about these being strictly CW. Ahsoka's interceptor is strictly CW (but also adjacent to current stuff, because Ahsoka), but the ARC-170 (a ship that debuted in Episode III and is most prominent in Episode III) is obviously designed with Episode III in mind - put Oddball in front for the Battle of Coruscant, put Jag in front for Order 66. The UT-AT (which for reference is the ski-legged trident walker seen on Mygeeto, with one of them doing a missile-induced backflip courtesy of getting shot by a Tri-Droid) is strictly Episode III - the UT-AT has literally only ever appeared on-screen in two places: Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Unleashed (and only as wreckage, in the latter). I don't count its appearance in OG Battlefront II, because that was purely via recycled RotS footage. The MTT set is an RotS-Clone Wars hybrid, and it honestly makes sense: A. a CIS MTT is something we haven't had before despite it being in demand (custom ones fetch a good penny on eBay, and tend to get snapped up from what I've seen) & appearing somewhat frequently in TCW, and B. they probably don't want to do an AT-OT remake at the same time they're doing the UT-AT, because then they'd have two big grey pricy things with minimal screen time sharing the shelves. And Jango Fett's Slave I is obviously Episode II and will probably be strictly so. Second, the Original Trilogy more than any other part of Star Wars can handle a break from constant attention. Because it's so iconic (for better or for worse), they can easily come back to it whenever they want as if they never left. Whereas stuff like the clones, if they drop the momentum it's harder to get back to it. I think you're mistaking a lack of fanfare for a lack of acknowledgement. Just because LEGO doesn't call an anniversary out doesn't mean it's not on their minds. 1. It's true that ESB's 20th anniversary didn't get any acknowledgement as such, but that's because it fell during Lego Star Wars' second-ever year. The range was too new and too universal in scope to be paying special attention to any anniversary (and FWIW we did at least get the Slave I that year, as well as the first Lego AT-AT by way of the Dark Side Developer Kit). RotJ's 20th was likewise early in the range's lifespan, but I'd say it got at least a little acknowledgement in the form of the Jabba's Palace, Jabba's Message, and Jabba's Prize sets. 2. There may not have been fanfare for it, but they clearly seem to have been celebrating ESB's 25th anniversary early (because the actual anniversary overlapped with the upcoming Episode III) over the course of 2003 and 2004. Those years were very ESB-heavy, with ESB getting multiple big sets: Cloud City, the first System AT-AT, the second (and worst, he said from experience) version of the Millennium Falcon, the first UCS Snowspeeder, Luke's X-Wing and Yoda's Hut ($50 counts as a big set by the standards of the day)... 3. Speaking of overlap, you know what LSW's anniversaries overlap with? The Phantom Menace. You know what LSW have made sure to give love to on both the 20th and 25th anniversaries? The Phantom Menace. Hell, TPM even got some love for its fifteenth anniversary, by way of a big MTT set with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in the otherwise RotS-centric 2014 line. Really? I count at least three cases of uncovered ground: Ahsoka's Interceptor, the CIS MTT (all three previous Minifig-scale MTT sets are brown), and the UT-AT (which again, is strictly Episode III). I'd argue that the 327th, the ones getting a BP, do - they feature prominently in the Order 66 sequence. Also, they're more in the "overdue for a remake" category - the last time they were done was the original Clone Battle Pack set, so not only has it been a hot minute... they've only ever been done with the original fat, misshapen helmet with the hollow visor. As for the Galactic Marines... who else would really go with the UT-AT? That wouldn't be a bad idea. That or a generic pack with stickers for legion markings, which would cover most groups. Wouldn't work for Kashyyk troopers, but it would cover a lot of bases. Thing is, the OT cast ARE readily available, whether on shelves or secondhand. And since (unlike the prequels and TCW) most have been done so many times that you're spoilt for choice, they're even reasonably-priced secondhand. While many of those are indeed overdue (though at least the Resistance X-Wings and some versions of the Y-Wings, along with I believe some versions of Vader's TIE and the A-Wing, haven't hit "Oh god, why" prices the way the frigging Vulture Droid has), especially the Vulture Droid and Tri-Fighter (especially since these new), they still aren't as overdue as: Jango Fett's Slave I. Which has been done at minifig scale exactly once vs. the umpteen times Boba's has been done, was a little scuffed on the in-flight wing height, and has a price tag of "Oh god, WHY." The lack of a new version has stood out all the more in the wake of us getting two remakes of Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter within five years of each other. and The ARC-170. Last done at minifig scale in 2010, and both that and the 2005 version are painfully-priced secondhand. I am VERY happy we got a new one this year. While we're listing stuff that's overdue for a remake: Bounty Hunter Pursuit, Tusken Raider Encounter, Boga, Dooku's Solar Sailer, the V-Wing, the V-19 torrent (perhaps forgoing gear-driven wings this time), Magnaguard Fighter, Obi-Wan's blue Jedi Interceptor, Ahsoka's Delta-7B, Mace Windu's Delta-7B, the Blade of Dorin (while not necessarily a priority, all of them could certainly use a re-do; the first four Delta-7B sets were scuffed even by the standards of the time and only one has been redone), Anakin/Vader's green Jedi Interceptor, Gasgano, Mawhonic, and Aldar Beedo's podracers (not that I expect these lol), UCS Naboo Starfighter (the original... Well, you know the buildable models that there's a glut of in the line currently? It's basically one of those)... I think I had more on this list, but am blanking on them in the rewrite. Side note: I personally would rather not see any new Imperial TIES until Lego re-learn that Imperial TIEs are supposed to have blue hulls. Considering most of his complaints about Porsche's custom ship design seem to revolve around it not being a slave to the the OT fighter aesthetic sensibilities, does he really have a right to play the "lazy" card for the ST fighters? :P The dude comes off to me like that smug novelist git from Gentlemen Broncos. I'd argue that looking to the X-Wing's concept art and reimagining that as a next-gen, more streamlined version is a lot more effort than what Legends did for new X-Wings and looks a lot cooler than the smegging E-Wing. And the MG-100 Star Fortress bombers were really cool and original, and in line with Star Wars fighters drawing on WW2 for inspiration. As for the First Order and Final Order fighters.. Those are less fresh but TIEs are kinda limiting, especially if your idea is to look like next-gen TIEs. Kylo's TIE Silencer was pretty cool though, and the TIE Daggers aren't the most unique but look less weird than the TIE/d fighter from Legends. And the FO troop transport was something new, and also in line with WW2 inspiration. And at least the ST doesn't have Jon Favreau's seeming allergy to accent colors :P One thing that is not in dispute about ST fighters, and the main thing people want a do-over for, is that LEGO have yet to do a T-70 X-Wing where the upper and lower S-foils merge flush when closed. It'd be tricky - the anchoring for the cannons on the lower S-foils gets in the way a bit, plus you wouldn't want them to snag on each other when opening or closing (probably the main reason Lego avoided it on all three thus far) - but it can probably be done. Unlike flush S-foils on a gear-driven ARC-170 - that ain't happening outside a UCS set. ======================================================================================================================================================================================================================== And now I think I should resume focusing on appreciating a set. I love Ahsoka's Jedi Interceptor. In many respects, it's the best version of the Eta-2 to date. The wings are solidly built, and the use of Technic angles to slope them eliminates the flopping issue that has haunted the hinged versions (albeit less so on the triple-hinge ones) - it should also prevent video game artists from incorrectly modelling the ship with the wings straight rather than sloped. The astromech socket puts the astromech's shoulders at a good height relative to the wings, and the matching pod under the other wing isn't needlessly hollow like it was on the 2020 version of Anakin's interceptor, and thus looks infinitely better. It also avoids the problem the 2016 and 2020 sets had of the cockpit front window being free-spinning (Which was extra-dumb on the 2020 set - that one used a dish with a hollow stud, so they could have used an axlehole brick and a 2L bar with stop to attach it). The proportions are good, the new slopes used make for the best depiction yet of the cockpit fence (an aspect of the design that has proved perennially troublesome to capture in Lego), the gap between the wings and the cockpit has been eliminated, the mid-wing notches are even better done than on Anakin's 2020 interceptor, and it accurately depicts the livery of Ahsoka's fighter. The engine spacing is good, and it's also the first Jedi Interceptor since the 2005 version to not have a Technic hinge tumor behind the cockpit (and thus, is the first version since then to be able to rest the canopy in more positions than "closed" and "thrown fully back"). The minifigures are also excellent, with Anakin being a standout - I think this is the first time since the Police Gunship set that someone has recognized that the only black parts of Anakin's outfit are his jerkin and glove(s). It is a bit disappointing that R7-A7 doesn't have back printing, considering the 2022 version of R4-P17 did have it, but that's a minor quibble. I do have some complaints: The back of the cockpit is too rounded (although I don't know if the bricks needed to nail it just right currently exist), it's disappointing that the engine glow parts are the only thing holding the rest of the engine detail to the axles, the side cannons are too stubby and plain (they needed lightsaber hilt pieces), there's yet again no control levers, and shouldn't one of Ahsoka's sabers have used a 3L bar for the blade instead of a 4L bar? It's also disappointing that the S-foil piece still hasn't been reworked with reinforced clips, it sorely needs them. Those clips are just too delicate. I've had to repair them enough - and in multiple cases, resort to gluing them to the 4L bar - to know that for a fact. But still, it's a great set and one I'm happy to have. I'd kinda like to see a Saesee Tiin recolor of it. I'll try to get some pics posted of it soon. -

It's still an Imperial trooper. And it's the only Imperial unit currently visible on Brickset for this year. Although if we're getting Night Troopers, I'd agree that that's close enough to regular OT Imperial troops. Armor-wise, they're clearly "regular Stormies who've had to make do when it comes to repairs". That's disappointing. Especially given something I'll get into later. Hey, it's something. And it's better access to Plo Koon. With that piece count, it's definitely going to be UT-AT. The only way the Republic Fighter Tank gets a set with that piece count is if a designer is told to choose between doing a UCS RFT, or any of Padme's ships. Also, I don't think Lego "enjoy generalizing terms" or would call a UT-AT an RFT. The only times AFAIK they've used a generic name for a walker have been the first AT-RT set and a deliberate callback to the first AT-RT set. Yes, the Juggernaut tanks are consistently called Turbo Tanks, but that's more due to the name Juggernaut being too associated with a certain X-Men character. Have we had a battle pack AT-RT since Geonosis Troopers, though? It could easily be something else. Perhaps even an abstracted RFT. Which also isn't RotS, but does have some slight association by way of being previously associated with Aayla Secura. So, still RotS-adjacent. And if RotS ever gets a Special Edition (which it could low-key use: there are some deleted proto-Rebellion scenes it would be better off having re-added, the sequence of Plo Koon getting shot down was a mess even before TCW introduced the Delta-7B because his cockpit footage is clearly of an Eta-2, and at this point the movie could really do with overt mention of Ahsoka's existence and the Siege of Mandalore) they probably should change that MTT in the Invisible Hand's hangar to CIS livery. It basically seems like they're using adjacency to current stuff or else to the RotS Anniversary to cover ground that's yet to be covered or overdue for a revisit. Case in point, I looked it up and apparently we're getting a UCS Jango Fett Slave I? Which is great news, because YE GODS are we overdue for a new version of Jango's Slave I. We've had SEVEN minifig-scale versions of it in Boba's colors (two of them BACK TO BACK!), including a UCS version, but nothing new for Jango's Slave I at ANY scale even though we've had two modern minifig-scale versions of Obi-Wan's fighter. Although on that note, the lack of a new V-wing is really conspicuous. That would tie into both the RotS 20th anniversary and The Bad Batch, and it's something overdue for a new set. Also disappointed at the lack of a new Boga. I think that's just a side effect of a lot of the uncovered or revisit-overdue (The 327th Star Corps haven't had new minifigs since the 2006 Clone Battle Pack set) ground happening to involve Clone Troopers & the Clone Wars. Even with half of the adult-oriented model kit junk out of the way, I would prioritize neglected (*cough*Padme's ships*cough*) or overdue-for-a-refresh prequel & even CW stuff over OT stuff. Yes, the OT is the core trilogy and all that, but that has also made it the most well-worn ground (we've had SIX minifig-scale versions of Luke's landspeeder, for example) when it comes to Lego sets. Even for ships and vehicles that didn't actually do much in the original trilogy. It is the part of SW we can most afford a year off from, set-wise, especially when last year's models are still hanging around on the shelves. I love the Original Trilogy, my dad's 1994 box set that I grew up watching is why I'm such a big Star Wars fan. But I also grew up with and love the Prequel Trilogy, and I'm a fan of the Sequel Trilogy as well. And of those trilogies, the OT has eaten the best at Lego's table by a country mile, with most things from it receiving do-overs on top of do-overs. It can afford to sit to one side for a while while other parts of Star Wars get a turn. And if you can't deal with that? That is on you. Arguably, that has been the majority of Lego Star Wars' lifespan. Also, the thing about plain Stormtroopers & Snowtroopers & Scout Troopers etc. is that because they're plain... they're a lot more universal than Clone Troopers with all their different legion liveries. Perhaps, although 2024 was not exactly hurting for Stormies on the shelves. -
My Top 16 - list unnumbered because while they're the 16 best ones I have yet to rank them - Clone Wars minifigs are: General Grievous. Way better than the original RotS version Pong Krell, for actually giving us a Besalisk Captain Rex, Y-Wing Microfighter/UCS Venator version Coruscant Guard Gunship Padme 501st Trooper, 2020 version Anakin Skywalker, 2025 version (gets the outfit colors fully right, while having modern head) Anakin Skywalker, 2018 version (best version of semi-armored Anakin) Ahsoka Tano, Ahsoka's Jedi Interceptor version Ahsoka Tano, Mandalore version Fives Mace Windu, 2022 version Admiral Yularen Yoda, 2023 version Count Dooku Magnaguard Asajj Ventress, cloth skirt version

I see. I had assumed there would be Bad Batch stuff, due it being current. I mean THIS Imperial Commando polybag that's listed on Brickset. Ah, so it's only image leaks that are forbidden here then and list leaks are still fair game? I was going off Brickset, where the majority of the 2025 range is still in the "dot dot dot question mark" state for want of official reveal. I bring it up because it kinda feels like a factor people aren't considering in why the OT (which is evergreen) might be at the bottom of the priority list compared to current stuff and the need to honor the 20th Anniversary of Revenge of the Sith. Speaking of, was there any RotS stuff in that list leak? Not counting the ARC-170, because that's already out and known. Also wondering if there's any TFA stuff, since it's also the tenth anniversary of that. -

ZeldaTheSwordsman replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm sure we'll have Imperial troops amongst the Andor and Mando and Bad Batch stuff. And I know we've gotten an Imperial Commando polybag. As for the seeming lack of minifig-scale OT sets, A. it's too early to call that when most of the 2025 line is pending reveal and B. I think it's worth noting that iconic though the OT may be, there seems to be plenty of 2023 and 2024 OT stuff still in stock both in stores and on Lego's website. If you don't like the new Stormie helmet, write in to Lego. Point out that unlike Clone Troopers it doesn't serve an accessory accommodation purpose, and that the new design is a bit of a needless space hog - looks like it might be on par with the original Phase II clone helmets. For my part, I'm happy we've gotten a new ARC-170 this year; that one's on my "must get" list. I'm also very much enjoying Ahsoka's interceptor; the switch to Technic pieces to angle the wings is a welcome move, especially after Anakin's otherwise-excellent one from 2020 foolishly regressed from three ratchets per wing to two. Although ye gods do we need a new Vulture Droid set already, the prices on the 2014 one are insane except for the odd Bricklink listing now and then. -
I recently got the urge to put this set back together again, an urge I finally acted on the other day. It was fun, although it further affirmed my desire to get the Episode VII or Episode IX Falcon. 4504 has never impressed me design-wise (No joke, when I got it for Christmas in 2005 I soon found myself wishing my parents had gotten me 7190 off eBay instead), and in fact I've come to suspect that the design was never actually physically playtested before release. Anyway, whenever I've built it I've always put a yellow 1x4 plate atop the black 1x6 arch brick in order to anchor the front central roof panel when closed. But I noticed that this step isn't in the PDF of the instructions available on LEGO.com, nor in the version of the instructions currently present on Let's Built It Again. Nor is this 1x4 plate in the Bricklink inventory for either version. So, my question is: Is this step a mod I've been doing for so long that I forgot it was a mod? Or is there a version that does show adding this? If it is a mod on my part, than the design is even faultier than I've long thought.

How do you store/ display your SW minifigs?
ZeldaTheSwordsman replied to hikouki's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't display my minifigures or my sets anymore; being dismantled when not needed is healthier for them and helps mitigate dust buildup. I dismantle and bag the minifigures when they're not in use, and I usually tuck those bags inside the bag or bin the corresponding set is stowed in. Keeps them nicely together. Some special cases are stored in a separate box. -
Seems my memory was playing tricks on me.... I just double-checked my MicroScout (which I popped the white top off of months ago to see if I could do anything about the buttons - I am aware that the silicone ones are a singular piece, by the way, and if you'll look closely have referred to them as such) and found the same thing. I could have sworn it had had microbuttons, but I guess my brain was mixing it up with Armada Optimus Prime's PCB. Oops. Looking at my buttons piece it's worse than I was remembering - two are torn completely off. I had been hoping I could glue bits of other silicone (and, now that I know I need them, carbon pads) to what's left to act as replacements for what tore off. Or that enough other people would have run into this that somebody made reproduction ones. Btw, the desire to fix over replacing isn't only motivated by cost - it's also motivated by a desire to avoid waste. Yeah, the shipping to California would probably be a killer. If I do get another I might have to settle for that "dead" one (that probably just needs the contacts cleaned).
-
Excuse me, but you seem to have skimmed my post without properly reading. I specifically stated that the silicone piece had suffered tearing. Cleaning won't help with that. To be more specific, two of the upper buttons are partly torn off and no longer protrude past the top shell. You're also wrong about the MicroScout's buttons. The visible buttons aren't actually part of the circuit at all - they're just a silicone piece used to actuate the real switches, which stand on the PCB as complete assemblies with hard plastic buttons. I appreciate your trying to help, but strictly speaking, that link does not lead to the part in question. It leads to the MicroScout as a whole. I would rather not buy an entire new MicroScout if I don't have to. I would rather just repair or replace the silicone piece if at all possible.
-
The silicone buttons piece on my MicroScout from 9478 Droid Developer Kit has suffered tearing on two of the buttons, making it so pushing them takes poking a toothpick or similar inside. Does anyone have advice on repairing the piece, or where I might get a replacement? I tried calling Lego, no luck there.

Well, what do you define as appropriately scaled? Appropriately scaled as in it's the same size relative to them as the real deal would be to a real person, or appropriately scaled as in it's the right size to hold as many minifigs (plus equipment) as the real deal would hold people and equipment? That's the trouble with standard minifigures - their proportions and lack of articulation kinda break scale. A car big enough to seat four minifigs tends to be gargantuan next to them, while a car more in scale can typically only seat one. I have mixed feelings about the model. On the one hand, there's obviously a lot of skill and effort put into the design and build. On the other hand... It has something that tends to bother me about a lot of the "pro" builds I've seen: It's a LEGO build that seems to be breaking its back trying to hide that it's LEGO. To me, that almost always looks very unsatisfying - why this extreme aversion to showing studs?

Lego Re-releases - What would you like to see?
ZeldaTheSwordsman replied to ElectroDiva's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They might be willing to revive most of those older parts, they probably still have the toolings (unlike the pigtails hairpiece, whose mold no doubt broke or deteriorated in the 90s), and we could frankly use revivals of those friction hinges since the locking ones have clearance issues in some situations. The big issue with the Mega Core Magnetizer or any other medium to large M: Tron set is the parts they can't revive and would have to create new versions of: The magnet parts. A reissue of anything that's in someone's "investment portfolio" would be quite welcome in my book because I have a deep-seated loathing for that kind of "fan". That aside, I would love reissues of 7140, 7130, 7150 (with Vader's TIE trading its blue and dark gray for sand blue), 7134, 7180, 7190 as far as licensed stuff goes. Well, that and a gray version reissue of any post-7140/7142 X-wing. I would also love a reissue of the Emerald Night because it is a gorgeous train and I missed the original go-around. Maybe an accompanying separate-sale coach. A re-reissue of the Railroad Club Car. That's all I've got off the top of my head rn -
ZeldaTheSwordsman started following Need help: Rubber tire issue
-
The rubber Lego uses for their rubber tires (as well as things like Bohrok krana) is pretty good. But it does tend to swell up and make the tires too enlarged and loose to fit when it gets too much moisture in it. As tends to happen when, say, we're dumb kids putting the tires in our mouths. I was wondering if there was a way to shrink them back down.

Different starfighter - the one in AOTC is a Delta-7A - but they are indeed both dark red. The TCW one looks more reddish but it's still dark. Lego used the long flags originally in part because of how long the tailfin is at the top, in part because the smaller straight flags look a bit too short and aren't as good a canvas for detail (plus they lacked shorter curved slopes anyway), and in part because they were going off the Delta-7A where the fin looks a tad bit longer. Of course, they did eventually come up with a completely new way of doing the Delta-7 rear that captures the length and shape way better than flags could ever hope to. But that wasn't yet present when you started this. Overall a very nice collection. I love the job you did with Kit Fisto's fighter, easily the best of the group. Not sure I agree with covering the Astromech sockets since that makes the partsforming worse and you can see their "hips" in the show model, but still a good job.
