Lego Building App for iPhone
kyphur replied to Whup's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If this could support LDraw (dat/ldr/mpd) files it would make this a required app for me. Without the ability to use existing files and share them between my iPhone & Computer then it's just something neat to tinker with. I love the idea and will probably buy it either way. -
Maybe try it with larger tires also, I've always wondered why someone would buy an SUV with small tires. Even my Ford Escape (a smaller SUV) has 17 inch tires, they don't look good with 15 inch tires and I'll never understand why they would be sold like that.

putting several models in to one in MLCAD?
kyphur replied to apemax's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If you have all of the different models built as ldr files then: 1. Start with a blank model. 2. Right click in the building area, select "Add" then "Part" 3. Click the check box for "Custom Part" then click the "Browse" button. 4. Find and select the ldr file. 5. repeat for all of the models you need. FWIW, when using a mpd file make sure the first model in the file has the complete scene in it. I've never had a problem rendering with either of these methods. -

Are you using the "Multiple File" Option? If so then just import the existing file and add multiple instances of it to the first model in the file. You do this from the menu bar, "Multipart" then "Import Model". The model appears in the parts tree under "Document" -

Even though I'm logged in whenever I click the link for the pdf I get this message "[#10171] You do not have permission to view this attachment." -
Wouldn't you rather just move it over 1 brick and not overhang than risk getting DQed for such a small issue?
-
Looks real good, the only question I have is about Spidey's WEB- Is it official Lego string? The contest is limited to official parts and I'd hate to see a great entry DQed over something so minor... Also, on closer inspection it looks like Doc Ock's Claw that attaches to the wall needs to be adjusted as "no overhang" is also in the rules.

Here is an update to the top of the Landscape. Sorry it's virtual at this time, had to make an order for more tan parts... Thanks for the feedback, it's really helped make this vignette better. I was worried that hanging Grievous might distract from his design but the ground is crowded with him standing there and the Jet Trooper has to be much lower so it works better with him "doing what he does in his own special way".

Okay, received the latest BL order today so I could finish the scenery... Set of images on Flickr All feedback is listened to so don't hold back...

Yeah, I'm trying to find the right balance between the Blockiness of CudeDude and the slimness of Grievous. I think both sets of legs work, the question is which work better. One thing I like is how this set of legs lets me mix the colors better with the tiles on the 1x1 headlight bricks. All other things being equal I think this set of legs fits the CubeDude format better than the original set. BTW, for those interested I will post instructions for Grievous once I'm settled on the final design. Hard to believe I'm almost 2 weeks into building this little guy!
-
Here is the 3rd set of legs I designed for him, what do you guys think?
-
A few minor tweaks and here is CubeDude General Grievous "In The Brick"!
-
This is my 4th Head design! The original head was design #1... Designs 2 & 3 never were completed... Design #4 looks more menacing in my opinion and (best of all) it is offset by 90 degrees! Compare the two heads: I'm trying to decide if I should add a couple of slopes above his eyes (on the new head), here is the before & after shot: Here is my favorite on the body:
-
I'm still trying to see if I can get a good enough head with the diagonal orientation. Still have 25 days to perfect it! Once the design is finalized I'll post building instructions for him.

Here are new legs for Grievous:
-
I was already thinking about giving General Grievous the CubeDude Treatment when this contest was announced so I decided the make him the start of the Vignette! Since Grevious is known for his unique attack angles I thought "What better than to have him offing a couple of clones by catching them off guard coming from above?" What we have is Grievous hanging from the ceiling with a decapitated (and dismembered) Clonetrooper dead on the floor as grevious turns to stop the Clone Jetpack Trooper from escaping. The design of Grievous' head is based on the head of his UCS Statue. I just trimmed it down as much as I could without losing any important details. His body was inspired by Larry Lar's design, okay the legs are a direct copy but they work so well. His torso is original. Here are some renderings of the design. Note that the tan walls & ceiling are still in the design stage but I'm pretty sure I like the positioning of the 3 CubeDudes. I might rotate Grievous so that he's killing the Jetpack Trooper behind his back (more ninja-like and bad-megablocks) as it will also make his head/face more visible. Links to photos (take with my phone) of the work so far: http://www.brickshel...te_3-4_view.jpg http://www.brickshel...e_back_view.jpg http://www.brickshel..._front_view.jpg Here is the link to the gallery once it becomes public: http://www.brickshel...des/CD-Vignette Finally, here is the star of the show: General Grievous rendered as a CubeDude! Any Feedback would be appreciated...

I own all three sets in the series (Sopwith Camel, Red Baron Tri-Plane & 1903 Wright Flyer). They are all fun to build and neat display pieces. The 1903 Wright Flyer was the set that brought me out of the Dark Ages and returned me to LEGO. I rarely apply stickers to my sets and didn't for either the Sopwith or Tri-Plane. I've toyed with the idea of copying the sticker sheet onto a full page Label sheet using a scanner and my color laser printer then spraying the sheet with clear polyurethane so get the shiny finish so I can apply good copies of the stickers for display.

My first TV appearance was back in 1995, the year my Grandmother died. There was an incident in a nearby town where a loaded school bus was hit by a train. I went to the local hospital where some of the injured kids were taken just thinking to donate blood but I ended-up volunteering and getting the line of donors organized so that everyone had every things signed ans was assigned to a station before they got to the area where the actual donation was happening (High School ROTC teaches military organization well). In April of 2005 I taped an episode of The Nancy Grace Show regarding Sex Offender Recovery, it was aired in Dec of 2006. In May of 2005 I was a "Phone in guest" on a day time legal issues talk show regarding Six Flags Amusement Parks official policy stating that they could eject someone from their parks if they were ever convicted of a Sex Offense. The policy was absurd and unenforceable, Six Flags removed it from all of their literature (including the back of their season passes) before the 2006 season began. I was also in a nationally (AP) distributed print article about it. In September of 2005 I taped a two episode series of The Montel Williams Show, my 13 year old daughter also appeared on-screen, regarding Sex Offender Recovery. I've also done 2 nationally broadcast radio interviews regarding Sex Offender Recovery & Recidivism during 2005.

Vote for your favourite Category B entries
kyphur replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
All 3 of my votes go to "12) Diver & Surfer Entry (Build by squiz)" Reason #1, as a certified diver (who has been in the water with Bull Sharks at 100 ft depth) I appreciate his use of the diver. Reason #2, the surfer looks like he deserves the shark! Reason #3, the really innovative way the wave is constructed. Think I'll have to get a surfer and the parts to re-create this one! -

How about scanning or snapping good pics of the instructions for the models and posting them?

No unlike the T-22 Armored Speeder the XG-3 has been around since the late 80s/early 90s. Honestly as much as I like the shuttle I think the XG-3 is a better model!
