Hey Jacob, Awesome MOC. I just featured this on the front page of Classic Castle. http://classic-castle.com/ I wanted to add, though, how wonderful your description is. It sounds like the first page of a well-written book, and I want to read the rest. BTW, I don't have any TMNT sets, so I had no clue where the rat head element came from in this and a bunch of your MOCs. I figured it was something from Chima (another theme I don't have any of), and I was scrolling through the figs on BrickLink trying to figure out what it was. Then I thought maybe it was some EU fig from Star Wars. Then finally I realized it was Splinter. Bruce

No problem at all. Thanks for moving this to the most appropriate place.

Hi all, Classic-Castle is pleased to announce Colossal Castle Contest XII. -details here - The CCC is (I think) the longest running major LEGO building contest in the community. All members of the larger AFOL/TFOL community are welcome to join. Categories range from the size of a single minifigure to full-scale castles covering multiple baseplates, so there's something for everyone. Please share this with any AFOL/TFOL you know, post it in AFOL/TFOL forums, share on social media, etc. Eurobricks admins, if this post violates your forum policies, please move or delete it with my apologies. Hey all, Greg Tull invited castle builders to create a backdrop to be used in his full-length castle themed brickfilm, Bound. Please vote for your favorite over on Classic-Castle. The winning entry will be incorporated into the movie and the builder will win fame, fortune, and a signed copy of the movie on DVD. Hi all, The Classic-Castle forums have been down for the last several days because of a changeover from a failing server to a new server. Many thanks to Troy and Dave who did a lot of work on this. I'm posting this here because a lot of CC members are also Eurobricks members. If the Eurobricks admins feel this is inappropriate to post here, please move or delete with my apology. Bruce CC admin

Hey Ivan, This is a really great MOC. I blogged it on TolkienBricks. I really like how you stayed true to the design aesthetic of the official set, but greatly expanded and improved it. Great rockwork, and also the place where the hole is blown in the wall is really effective. If you want some constructive criticism, my only real critique is the plate turned at a slope over on the left where Gandalf and Erkenbrand are coming down the hill -- you did so much effective working building detailed slopes in other parts of the canyon, just taking a plate and angling it down seems a bit of a throwaway. Awesome photography on the figs-eye-view shots of Gandalf charging down and also the one of the orcs with their ballista looking up at the walls. Bruce

Hero Factory Month - Index and Discussion
bruce n h replied to Brickthing's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Hey, I'm not a regular here, so feel free to ignore me, but I just wanted to put in a word as an admin on another forum (Classic-Castle). Guys, you just need to relax a little. People who run LEGO contests, forums, blogs etc also have lives - classes, jobs, families, etc all take precedence. We don't spend 24/7 on our hobby, and running contests/forums/blogs takes a lot of time. It's not the end of the world if voting happens a few days later than you expected. Bruce -
Hey, I don't usually post here on EB, as being an admin at CC prevents me from doing much more than checking the front page news on other sites, but I just wanted to pop in here to say how much I love this set. 487 was my first big LEGO set as a kid (after getting the small Mobile Rocket Launcher - still one of my favorites). I never did get the Galaxy Explorer set, but I played for uncounted hours with this and some of the smaller early Space sets. Thanks for sharing this. The box and instructions are long gone, but I think I still have the bricks, just mixed in with my collection. (Though I'm pretty sure I don't have the little spring-loaded forklift piece any more). Now I've got to dig through and rebuild this. Bruce

Hey, I'm just a lurker in these parts of the Legoverse, so feel free to ignore this. Also, while I am a CC admin I have had no involvement with the creation of FC, so in no way speak for them. A couple of quick thoughts: -Upthread someone said that FC was a clone of Classic-Pirates. Actually, it's a straight up clone of Classic-Castle, using all of the same code etc (except an updated version of the forum software that maybe we'll use on CC). Also, at least for the moment, this is not splitting CP, but instead is drawing most of the early members from CC, and so is draining at least some of the traffic from the CC forums. -Some, upthread, have made various arguments around the idea of "why make a new site, it's splitting the community." Of course, the same could be said of Eurobricks, Classic-Castle, and pretty much every other site. Whenever something new started, the old argument of "All conversation belongs on Lugnet! You're fragmenting the community!" To take it further, we could say that all conversation belongs on rec.toys.lego, the Usenet group, and I think that split off from an earlier listserver. Or you could point back to the original groups of AFOLs who were meeting in someone's living room that led to one of the earlier gatherings (I'm too lazy to dig through and find the early history). Now, of course, there are tons of communities, blogs, not to mention the 1093 Flickr groups that come up when you search "LEGO." In the sidebar of my blog I have links to 12 image sharing sites, 39 community forums, 95 or so active LEGO blogs, and probably about the same number of dormant LEGO blogs, not to mention a bunch of new communities and blogs that I've got bookmarked and ready to add to my sidebar. We're a long way from the day when "everyone" posted their images on Brickshelf and their conversations on Lugnet (not that that was ever true). Has the community been hurt? I'd argue no. Yes, it is impossible to know everyone and every MOC in the way that some feel they once could, but that's because the community has grown by leaps and bounds. It's like this. Once upon a time I could play with all of my friends in my basement, because my world was pretty much the kids on my street. Now some of my closest friends live thousands of miles away, and my different associations are broken up in many different ways - my wife and daughter, my sisters and their families, people I work with, friend from my previous job, people from my church, guys I went to college with, people from graduate school, the poker gang, the guys I play roller hockey with, the other parents at my daughter's daycare etc etc etc. Is my circle of friends richer or poorer for the fact that I cannot fit all of these people in my basement anymore? It's the same with the community. More sites bring in different people, and I interact with some people in one forum, others by leaving comments on their flickr page, others by e-mail etc. So I'm with Mao (!), let a thousand flowers bloom. Some will fade and be forgotten, others will grow and thrive and become vital parts of the community. Bruce

Hey, I've posted an announcement of this contest and the whole month in the Classic-Castle forums. Hope that's okay. One question on the contest - how are figs and accessories counted towards the 100 piece limit? A simple fig of legs, torso assembly, head and hairpiece could be 1 piece or 10 depending on how you count it. Bruce

Please disregard this. CC was acting all strange on me, but it seems to be fine now. Bruce

Review: 7620 Indiana Jones - Motorcycle Chase
bruce n h replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hey, I just skimmed through the thread and I don't think this has been asked already. How tall is the box? Is it 2 bricks, or 1 brick + 2 plates (so that it is 2 bricks with a capping plate)? Bruce -

Hey, Here's my take on Daleks: Bruce

The odds of getting one by buying a random set in the US are reportedly 1 in 250. This European contest promises to award "a bunch of them" and right now there are 61 entries on the 1000steine page, with only a few days left to enter. So, assuming there aren't hundreds of entries before Monday, the odds are significantly better in this contest. Bruce

I'm certainly no expert on Johnny Horton (just know this one song), but according to Wikipedia this statement is based on mistaken association of the singer Johnny Horton, of "Battle of New Orleans", with the singer Johnny Rebel, who is, apparently a Klan member/racist/originater of the songs you may be referring to.
