    You would've had to keep looking, and if you still couldn't find him, the kidnapping would've happened at night, where Sullivan would've been stronger, you might have negative effects, and if you defeated him, he would've ran away again. (But also leave behind a clue or two.)

    To be even fairer, I must take some responsibility. I designed and made the stats of pretty much everything in the battle. (Though I had no clue about the items on the line, or his consumables being taken. [?])

    The "leveling of the playing field" wouldn't work unless they were cheap enough to buy. If they were anywhere near cheap, people would stock up a huge amount. (Not too hard, since heroes are walking around with 2000 to even 4000 plus gold.)
