Since I only own three of this year's sets, both battle packs and Luke's speeder, I voted for the speeder. Not owning anything else, I feel that I can't really make too much of an informed opinion, and what I know is based on photo's and speculation, including my rantings about the AT-AT in the rumours thread. And although I've put the speeder down as my choice for 2010, I'm not that happy with it. The figures are the new designs with the big eyes and evil white pupils. The storm trooper with black pauldron was a nice touch though. I thought the speeder was the wrong colour. Tan looks good, but it's not sand red like the previous speeder. The rest of the speeder was mostly ok though, with the extra engine detail and the rounded wind shield giving a more authentic look to the vehicle. The use of 7 2x2 round dishes on the underside of the speeder was a bit excessive. Three would have sufficed. If Lego needed to boost the piece count, an extra Stormtrooper or Tatooine denizen would have been better. Maybe another Jawa?

Thanks for that It's working for me now too. They must have taken it down for maintenance or something. I thought I'd have to dive into my MTU settings for a moment

Sorry to raise an older thread, but I've just tried to log in to Peeron and nothing comes up. Is the site down? Can anyone test for me?

If the old bucket was the same green as the chest plates, this could be the perfect Lego Boba.
-
Looks like a great machine and could very well be found in the Star Wars Universe. Although you said P 41d, I would have thought that fighter seems a bit slender to be your inspiration. I'm getting P 47 Thunderbolt from your design.

Cloud City Boba for me too, for reasons I've already mentioned. He's among one of my more treasured minifigures.

Hi KimT. I'm not entirely sure, but something along the lines of "which Fett is Best?" or "which Fett do you see as the most collectable?" with options like: 2000 Boba (7144, 6209 Slave 1) 2003 Boba (10123 Cloud City) 2010 Boba (8097 Slave 1) I'm not sure if a Jango Fett option is worth adding. This forum could use a thanks button to show appreciation Many thanks.

In 2000, when Lego were just getting in to the Star Wars swing of things, they released the first Lego Boba Fett minifigure with 3341 and 7144. This made a lot of Star Wars Lego fans very happy. But lets be honest, he was a fairly standard minifig. Then in 2003 Lego released 10123 that had a range of new figures to get excited about. For me it was the first Lego Lando, but for the rest of the planet it seems that it was the redesigned Boba Fett, complete with arm and leg markings. Since then, most any Star Wars Lego site and fan has held the new Boba in high regard, and the minifigure seems to be worth a small fortune to those willing to part with the cash. At least it's been that way for almost seven years. But now there is this new Boba Fett minifigure, and I'm just wondering how much impact this new Boba has had on the value and collectability of the 2003 Boba. For me, the older minifigure still has it. Ok, so his colour is wrong (bright green), but he has plenty of detail, and he has a black head sitting under the helmet. All plus points to me. The new Boba is still the wrong colour (sand green is not dark green), his arms and legs don't match his torso any more, and he has a cartoon face The plus points being the helmet is of the right shape and has some good markings, and... Well that's it. The separate jetpack/helmet thing is neither here nor there, even though fans really wanted this feature. So over to you. Who do you prefer? Is the 2003 Boba still the better minifigure, or has he lost his crown to the new 2010 iteration? And just to add something to else to the mix - Jango Fett has been another popular minifigure, who has only been released once and is now 8 years old. Who wants a re-release, and do you want him in his original style or in the new one? I'd like to add a poll to this, but can't find how to do it. Shame. EDIT: Thanks to KIMT for adding the poll

I'm sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but I'm another one who isn't so sure about this new colour scheme. A big plus for the dark green, but a big negative for the dark red - at the moment. My opinion might change when or if I buy the set. I already own the last three, so I'm not sure about this one. And to echo other's voices, 6209 was a bargain. It had more pieces than Jango Fett's Slave 1, but was cheaper. 7153, 360 pieces, £45.00. 6209, 537 pieces, £40.00. Go figure! 2006 must have been a period of good economic climate. The new one looks to have a similar number of pieces to 6209, but has an estimated price of £70.00! I'm not sure I'll be doing myself any favours by buying it. But back to colour, and that dark red. Every picture I see of the new Slave 1, including those in this review, makes the dark red look far from the dark red that I know from sets such as 7143 Jedi Starfighter or 7113 Tusken Raider Encounter. All the other colours in the pictures match up with what they are in my collection - sand green looks like sand green, dark green looks like dark green, and so on, but the dark red doesn't match. If anyone on the forum owns the new slave one and an older craft that uses the dark red, could you maybe take a single picture of the two vehicles together, or at least a dark red brick/element from each, so I can see? People are telling me it's dark red, but my eyes don't see it in the pictures. I'm seeing brownish red. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

I've only ever owned the one Falcon - 7190, and since I've only ever seen pictures of the others (except the UCS at a Star Wars Celebration exhibit in London), I can't fully comment on them. 7190 was the first Star Wars Lego kit that I owned, and the first Lego kit I had owned in 12 years. It brought me out of my dark times and was the beginning of my collection in 2000. For what Lego was at the time, 7190 was very impressive and I instantly liked it and shrugged off all the inaccuracies, the primary colours on show, the weird craft/escape pod/thing sitting inside, no corridor to the cockpit, and various other bits and pieces. None of it really mattered. I loved that Lego were now making Star Wars sets, regardless of how they looked, they were just cool. Things in 7190 that instantly excited me were the little details - the printed quarter disc pieces that make up most of the ship, the radar dish, the headlights, the blue tube that makes up the exhaust, the hidden compartments, the game table, and of course my first ever Lego Star Wars characters. Who could resist? I must have stared at them for ages, before starting to build the ship. I loved the head mould and body printing for Threepio, even though his colour was too pale. He was probably my favourite of the early minifigures. And to see Leia's hair buns rendered this small was a joy. Ditto for the rest of the figures. It was all good. Of course, designs have improved in time, and the newer falcon - 4504 does look like an improvement to an extent. The thing that bugged me when comparing pictures of the two falcons, was the size of the cockpit on 4504. It's too big, and looks a bit out of place to my eye. The rest of 4504 needed to be bigger to bring the cockpit into scale. But Lego were otherwise on the right track with the falcon redesign. We'll probably see another one if the licence continues beyond 2011, and it'll be even better than the last two minifig scale Falcons. To be honest, I tend to divide Lego kits and their redesigns after a certain point. In 2002 the Lego brick changed. There were a lot of new elements and colours introduced that year, and all of the redesigns since have taken advantage of that. An extreme case in point would be the Slave 1 - 7144 compared to 6209 or 7153, the first Slave 1 to take advantage of the new elements. To compare the old ship with the new ones is almost unfair. How can it compete? Therefore I look at the two minifig scale Falcons in the same way, and forgive 7190 for looking the way it does, and having the colours it does, as at the time some ships in the star wars universe just didn't lend themselves well to the Lego brick of the day at that scale or price point. Things are better now and bricks seem more designed to fit the ship, rather than the other way around, as it was originally done. The UCS, midi and mini versions are in a league of their own and naturally have different qualities about them that make it hard or unfair to compare. You need some kind of class structure or else you end up racing hares against tortoises and that isn't right. But saying all that, I am probably taking it a bit too seriously. It's Lego, and it's meant to be fun, like this poll. For mostly sentimental reasons, I choose 7190 as my favourite falcon so far. Should I get my hands on another Falcon design, I'll have more to go on and it'll be a fairer fight in my mind.

I like the idea that this set might not be UCS in the strictest sense. There are plenty of Lego kits in the 10000 number range that have never been officially called UCS., even though they might be listed as such on the Lego website. 10123: Cloud City 10131: Tie Collection 10144: Sandcrawler 10178: Motorized Walking AT-AT 10188: Death Star 10195: Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker 10198: Tantive IV The UCS criteria is pretty vague as to what it actually constitutes. Did anyone here consider Cloud City or Tie Collection as part of the USC series? I know I didn't. I don't actually look at any of the above as UCS. They might have the 10000 number range slapped on them, but they all seem pretty ordinary, minifig scale sets to me. What differentiates 10198: Tantive IV from 7665: Republic Cruiser? It's even more complicated seeing as the previous Tantive IV was the original USC ship released in 2001 - 10019. Things get even more complicated when you consider the following kits: 7181: Tie Interceptor 7191: X-Wing Fighter 7194: Yoda Like I said, the USC label is pretty vague and seems to be a bit of a catch-all at times. And as far as Evidence goes, from what I've seen, is just an illustration of some minifigs with the number of the set they will belong to. But at no point have I seen the term UCS officially attached to those figs or the number 10212. Everyone is assuming, because of the 10000 range number that the Shuttle will be a USC, when like the other 10000 range kits listed above, it could just be a minifig kit with a high number of parts, not that piece count is much to go by. And we only know it's a shuttle due to there being a Shuttle Pilot tied to the kit number. At least it seems logical that a shuttle of some sort goes with a shuttle pilot. And because of the other figures linked to the number 10212, it seems logical that Luke's surrender is a scenario that Lego have been working on. Luke's Surrender might even be the name of the kit. Who knows right now? The only other thing that might make this set be classed as UCS is the high price, but then again, price is no real indicator that a set is officially considered UCS, and is possibly only tied to piece count. A set doesn't need a high price or piece count to be considered UCS by Lego - 10026 Special Edition Naboo Starfighter. After weighing it all up, my money is on the set being similar to the Cloud City play set from 2003. I'm hoping for an improved minifig scale Shuttle along with a platform or the corridor in which Luke and Vader have their first civilised encounter. A true UCS scale shuttle, utilizing all the 2500+ parts, and possibly matching the measurements quoted by another forum member earlier, would be too impractical and fragile. The UCS Falcon and ISD were cumbersome enough, but at least they were shallow. A three foot high shuttle? I don't see it happening. EDIT: Just found this MOC from 2007 showing quite a big platform. I can't find any info on piece count, but I think, if you removed the two Scout Walker and all the figures, then add a 500 piece shuttle, I think you'd be close to what some people on the forum might be thinking of. http://brick.jamescook.nu/wp-content/uploa..._lego_endor.jpg

Hmmm, Boba has a flesh head. I know we know that he is a Jango clone, but seeing as we don't see his adult face in the movies, but I think I might swap his head for a black one. It sounds strange, but Boba still holds an air of mystery and I think a face takes that away.

The Licence gets renewed every 4 years, doesn't it? This next renewal will take it up to 2015. Unless something new comes through from Lucasfilm in that time, I think the licence could end there.

I love coming here and seeing what's new. I might put some of my pictures up one day, although I need to see the wizard first and ask for a drop of courage. I'd also like to thank Legofenris and Commdr Neyo for adding me as a contact on Flickr. Great photo's guys. Cant wait to see what else you can come up with.

Yeah, I noticed after another quick Google. The original post by Darthperson also turned up. Anyway, unless someone else has more to add on Artoo in an old set, I guess we should wrap it up a bit. I can see that the thread has managed to drift off course a bit and has muddied the waters between what's new this year and what's not so new this year. And since I'm new around these parts, I don't want to get a reprimand from KimT for derailing the thread. Sorry. Edit: You didn't have to go looking for the old thread, Knightsword. But thanks, much appreciated.

So a special edition, or a limited release? That makes sense. After looking around on the net though (before bringing up the topic), I haven't actually seen a mention of it, which I find odd. You'd think, after a quick Google, I'd find at least one mention of such a set. Maybe now that I know what to look for... So it's the first I've heard of it, and thanks for the info. There are no Target stores or Black Friday holiday here in the U.K. and I haven't seen many such promotions at places like Toys R Us. The last one I remember was 7283 Ultimate Space Battle from 2005, but that just included all new parts, not improved designs from older sets. I'd still be a little surprised if Lego did put the new Artoo into 6212 for 2010, especially if it's not a special edition release, but if this is the case, and someone knows for sure, let it be known.

What re-releases? The 6212 X-Wing has only been released once in 2006, and is still in production. 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer was also released in 2006, but is no longer in production. As far as I know, the black R2 unit included never changed during the production of of 6211. However in 2008, Lego released 10188 Death Star The black R2 unit with this set incorporated the new printing design, like the new R2-D2, also first released with 10188. Are you suggesting that Lego will put the new R2-D2 head into the 4 year old X-Wing, as long as they continue to produce that set? Or are you saying that when the X-wing finally vanishes from the stores, it will be the last time we see the original R2-D2 included in a set sold at retail?

There seems to be a lot of confusion for some regarding the Artoo minifigure. I may aswell put my two penneth into the mix, and I think my thoughts are shared with one or two others. The older style Artoo is found in 6212. This Artoo is probably Lego's longest serving minifigure. It became available in 1999 with the release of the original X-Wing and Naboo Fighter sets. It has appeared in a set every year up to and including 2008, when it appeared in 7669; Anakins Jedi Starfighter and 7680; The Twilight. Clone wars sets with original style Artoo minifigures. This minifigure is still available today as part of 6212; X-Wing Fighter which was released in 2006. Lego could be putting the new Artoos in to late releases of 6212, as you say, but until someone confirms this, we won't know. I would imagine that after 4 years on the shelves (unusual for a Lego Star Wars set), 6212 is coming to the end of it's production run. The poster doesn't seem to show any Artoo that's been available. If anything the minifigure on the poster shows the new pattern, but on a white dome. It almost as if Lego printed the poster to show a transition from old to new. Maybe this design will start showing up in all recently produced 6212 X-Wing sets. But that is just speculation, and in all honesty, I do not see that happening. I don't think there is anything horrid about the new Artoo style. First seen in 2008 with the release of 10188; Death Star, I think this new Artoo is a more accurate rendition. The grey dome is closer to silver than the white ever was, and the detail printing gives a better representation of the actual droid it's based on. The printing is miles better than that found on the original Artoo minifigure, whose printing was only at the top of the dome, leaving a empty white band between the printing and the rest of the Artoo unit's body. I know it's all we had for 9 years, so we just accepted it, but this new one really is a big improvement that was a long time overdue. All we need now, is some printing on the back of the Artoo body and this minifigure will be as good as it can be.

I recently purchased some perspex stands from this guy through his Ebay page. The link to his Ebay page is on his site, as is a link to the glue he recommends is used for assembly of the stands. Check it out and see what you think: http://sites.google.com/site/legostarwarsdisplays/

The lower legs on both walkers, old and new, are only two studs wide, not counting any plating on the forward/rear facing edges of the legs. Both models also use the arch piece at the ankle, but 4483 has much more detail on the inside lower leg and a lot of it is also hidden by this construction:- 8129 definitely has fewer bricks/elements at the ankle and the whole construction looks a lot more open. The more I look at the current picture of 8129, the more I can see where the 250+ pieces have been taken from, when compared to 4483.
-
That's great, but seeing as Yakface don't seem to know more than anyone else about 8129, nor do they pay a great deal of attention to Lego products, I'll not be taking their word as gospel. I didn't say rare, I said BARE, as in not printed. Hopefully this will change and the discs will receive some printing. How can you tell how wide the new AT-AT is from the only picture of it? The picture shows nothing of the depth. 4483 is 8 studs across the top, ten if you count the extra width added by the side plates. But I wouldn't like to guess as to how wide 8129 is across the back. But seeing as the legs and feet on both walkers appear to be of the same dimensions, 8129 can't be only 4 studs wide. The left and right feet on 4483 are only 2 studs apart and it doesn't have inner toes. If 8129 were so narrow as you suggest, it would be tripping up it's own feet with every step. As far as early indicators go, 8 minifigures are included with 8129. This could change by release day, but appears unlikely. I can't think of many Star Wars minifig scale sets that combines a vehicle/machine with minifigures that doesn't allow the figures to sit within the model, except maybe Spider droids and Vulture droids which don't need pilots anyway. I don't think Lego have released many sets like that since the late 70's/early 80's. Going by the look of the head, I'm sure it has room for the pilot or Veers. I'm not seeing how both could fit together at the moment. The main body of the walker seems to open up like that on 4483, so should be able to accommodate the 2 Snowtroopers. And although 4483 only included two Snowtroopers, it had seating enough for four, plus enough room to hold a speeder bike. I'm thinking that 8129 should be able to accommodate it's included figures. But until further pictures come out, this is just speculation based on the previous walker. There's a market for both, it would seem, or I doubt Lego would be releasing such sets all the time. Either that or Lego knows that regardless of what they release, or what price it is (within reason), it will sell very well. As for no market for "little sets with repacked mini figs"; What would you say a battle pack is? So far the only one of those that has truly introduced something new is the recent Hoth rebel set, and to be honest, they are just new looks for older figures, (how many different Hoth rebels since 1999?) The new designs are also about to be re-released in upcoming sets. You're quite right, it is a way for Lego to put the AT-AT back on the shelves. And since it has been 7 years since the release of a minifig scale AT-AT, I can't see why another one can't be released. A new generation of Lego collectors can now get their hands on an AT-AT, and us old timer's might want it too, especially if we missed the first one.
-
I'm not sure why the "midi" term is being thrown around for this new Walker. There's nothing midi about it. It's clearly minifig scale, if a little smaller than 4483. The most apparent difference in size, going by the picture, is in the middle section. It's two studs shorter in height as the 12x2 plate found on 4483 is not part of the new Walker. The legs might also be shorter by two to four studs, if the shoulder discs remain small, although the legs are the same length as those on 4483 upto the bottom of the shoulder discs. The rest of the dimensions are very obscure. Currently all that exists as evidence of this new walker is a photo of a photo of the model in a catalogue, and that's it. It's not the clearest of pictures, and certainly doesn't reveal everything. The walker is at an odd angle, the head isn't in line with the body, looking more towards camera, and once again, our reference is a photo of a photo. It could be distorted. For all we know it could be a preliminary shot. The model as we've seen it so far, could go through changes. Who's to say the discs on the legs will remain bare? Hopefully a little detail will be added to the shoulders and knees. With a summer release date, there is still plenty of time for Lego to add some finishing touches to the AT-AT Walker. Compare early pictures of the new Slave 1 to how it looks now. Nothing is set in stone till release day.

Those slopes on Jango Fett's Slave 1 from 2002 are green.

At least this forum is still open, unlike some other well known website forum, which seems to have pulled it's own April Fools joke by shutting down for the day. Today is so annoying. Wading through all the rubbish of April 1st just to find some legitimacy. What fun. No, no, really.
