WesternOutlaw Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Once again, Playmobil offers a great new theme in 2007, Conquistadors. I was browsing some Playmobil boards today and came across images of this new 2007 theme. This would be another great theme for Lego: Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 1, 2007 Governor Posted February 1, 2007 That'd be right... Playmobil releases all the good themes these days - and they've even got a decent sized Conquistador fort! It looks quite charming too, especially with the flowered creeper crawling up the side the fort. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 I'm not particularly fond of the color though. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other sets (i.e. larger fortress, ship, etc.). Quote
ApophisV Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I don't have to say anything in here, have I? :-P *looks forward to unpack all those sets and put up the displays in the toy store* Quote

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other sets (i.e. larger fortress, ship, etc.). I see what you mean - I'm not sure that blue and yellow Conquistadors work for me either. Do you know if there will be more conquistador sets than just these two? *looks forward to unpack all those sets and put up the displays in the toy store* Would you purchase these for yourself, or as a gift for someone else perhaps? Obviously they're quite different from LEGO but surely they beat those darn MegaBloks sets! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 1, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 1, 2007 Why can't we switch the management of Playmobil with the management of Lego? Then we would have all those great themes like Rome, Conquistadors, ... Quote
ApophisV Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Would you purchase these for yourself, or as a gift for someone else perhaps? Obviously they're quite different from LEGO but surely they beat those darn MegaBloks sets! A good question. For me, NO. Collecting LEGO and Comic books and purchasing sets from Mega Bloks or other brands from time to time for "scientific research" takes almost all of my money. Besides this little problem I haven't the space to display a Playmo collection. Finally I am not THAT interested in Playmo than I am in LEGO. Nonetheless I really enjoy looking closely at their sets because you can see so many cool details on them, even the smallest sets feature many great ideas! Purchasing Playmo as a gift is something different. If I had to get a present for a child my first choice would be buying a LEGO set (the half of my small brother's LEGO collection came from my birthday / easter / christmas presents). The second choice would surely be Playmo because of its great quality in material, creativity and playability. Quote

El Bucanero Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 You mean they should bring back this theme (which they already did and abandoned): A theme dedicated to this MF?? Interesting! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 1, 2007 Governor Posted February 1, 2007 You mean they should bring back this theme (which they already did and abandoned): Exactly what do you mean by that Ted Beard? The LEGO Group re-released 3 Pirates sets (all from different sub-themes) in 2001 but I'd hardly call that "bringing a theme" back. Quote
Norrington Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I see what you mean - I'm not sure that blue and yellow Conquistadors work for me either. I can't say i like the blue and yellow on a spaniard, but, Blue and Gold are my school colours! Go Lions! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 I'll most likely buy these sets (at least the fortress) as I'm a big fan of lighthouses. I'll maybe post a few images in a year or so when these become available in the US. Quote
tedbeard Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Exactly what do you mean by that Ted Beard? I mean they could bring back the Pirate theme which included the conquistador minfig (et al) pictured above and in the banner on this forum! The original post suggested Playmobil was doing something LEGO had never done and should do. I was simply trying to point out that LEGO in fact already had conquistadors and had abandoned them along with our favorite theme. :-/ Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Playmobil is introducing Conquistadors as an entire theme as opposed to just a few sets like Lego. This is different. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 3, 2007 Governor Posted February 3, 2007 I mean they could bring back the Pirate theme which included the conquistador minfig (et al) pictured above and in the banner on this forum! Yeah The LEGO Company could do this... But they probably never will :'-( It would be very good if they did too because the Imperial Armada really really reeeeally needs a fortress using one of those 48 x 32 base plates and a proper Spanish galleon, not a measly Armada Flagship. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 A large Spanish Galleon would be a great set to see. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 3, 2007 Governor Posted February 3, 2007 Unfortunately I predict if I a Galleon were made in this point in time it would be using the Dungstain Ship hull, which really isn't appropriate in conjunction with SYSTEM. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 You never know. I definately think we will see the return of pirates in the next few years. Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Unfortunately I predict if I a Galleon were made in this point in time it would be using the Dungstain Ship hull, which really isn't appropriate in conjunction with SYSTEM. The viking ship is made with the old hulls, and perhaps they still have the molds of the old stern and bow sections. You never know. I definately think we will see the return of pirates in the next few years. Let's hope it will be a good one then! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 4, 2007 Governor Posted February 4, 2007 You never know. I definately think we will see the return of pirates in the next few years. What makes you should confident this will happen, old Brickster? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 What makes you should confident this will happen, old Brickster? Old Brickster? As I grow OLD, I realize that all things repeat. I believe that through the efforts of AFOL and the popularity of pirates with children, in movies/media, Lego has to jump back on this theme. It will happen, it's just a matter of when. A Legoland pirate ride is also a nice sign from Davy Jone's Locker. Quote
Scouty Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 They do have the hulls, true, though the reddish brown hulls :-X . That would be so lovely if they brought back old colors again. Why did they change them? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 Your guess is as good as mine, but usually cost drives a lot of these types of decisions. On a side not IS, I love your signature graphic. Very nice. Sounds like the prelude of a story? Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 They do have the hulls, true, though the reddish brown hulls :-X . That would be so lovely if they brought back old colors again. Why did they change them? If the also make reddish brown stern and bow sections, it isn't a problem, is it? I just like to think reddish brown is rose wood :-P Makes me feel better about it... Quote

I just like to think reddish brown is rose wood :-P Makes me feel better about it... That's a way of coping with it, I'm not so sure about "rosewood muskets" however... :-/ Quote
