Out of some sad form of pity, Captain Mesabi had donated half a doubloon to the Mardien Defense fund. This is where the money went. Mardien Militia stood on the shore of Skaford's Landing. Heroic commander Jacobus Sien stood vigilant for the Eslandola attack force. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr The Elsandolans launched their boats from Warships off the coast. Their elite troops were ready for landing. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr Shots were fired, but they all missed. Each side reloaded as the lifeboat rowed closer. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr A second wave of shots were fired. a Mardien was killed. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr With a war cry, the Eslandolans leaped out of the boat. The Mardiens struggled to reload their muskets before the Eslandolans could overtake them. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr A shot rang out, and an Eslandolan Elite fell backwards into the water, a cloud of blood emerged in the water. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr The Eslandolan leader reached Jacobus. He was busy loading his rifle. They locked eyes. Till my dying breath by North White, on Flickr With a bang, he fell. The Mardiens had failed. Perhaps on another beach, they had prevailed, but here, the Eslandolans took the day. Type: Commercial Location: Arlinsport Captain Mesabi inspected the new warehouse of Wayfarer Trading Company. It replaced the rundown mess that was the old one. New warehouse by North White, on Flickr Soldiers stood guard over the merchandise. Right now it was sparse, but as soon as the ships would come in, the warehouse would be packed. Captain Mesabi walked up to the quartermaster. He solemnly saluted the captain. New warehouse by North White, on Flickr "Everything ready for when the ships come in?" They greeted us cordially, and through an interpreter, one asked us to attend a ceremony. If it brought us closer to the Gold, we were happy to oblige." Further expeditions would be able to identify the many new species of plants and birds that swarmed the jungle. I must confess, however, that I was not the ideal Corrington scientist. A glittering chest full of gold sat above us, an alter for their heathen gods. We were so close then. I began formulating a plan in my mind." It was a short ride to the quayside from the Arlinsport Inn Captain Mesabi was staying at. He was wealthy enough to rent a horse, bot not enough for a full hansom. He soon arrived at his destination. Headquarters by North White, on Flickr A soldier stood outside his door waiting for him. "Sorry Gov, 'fraid I can't let you in 'ere." The Soldier said, in a heavy accent. "You won't let me in my own building?" Captain Mesabi asked incredulously. "Oh! 'ight then. If you own the place, you can go in then. Thought you're just a layman. Without a proper dress uniform and all all." The Soldier said apologetically. Captain Mesabi said nothing. Headquarters by North White, on Flickr The Soldier moved aside and Captain Mesabi entered the building. It was an old fishing hut, and still smelled faintly of fish. The accountant said apologetically. Captain Mesabi Snapped. "Listen here you little mega block. I was killing Oleonese when you were still in the mold. I have spent the last 8 years learning secrets, getting favors, and forming a plan. I know every dirty secret in the court. And It's high time I did something real for Corrington." I watched my company die in the Juniper war and all I got out of it was a meager position in the Queen's guard. And there I have sat, making sure the royals don't fight each other drunk off of rum. Well that time is over. 8 long years I have sat idle, saving for this. And no lowly Accountant is going to tell me otherwise." "Captain!" The Guard said Sternly. We were brought up into the temple where the King's throne was. The rest of our party waited outside." He was a grizzled veteran, a little eccentric, but seemed willing to fund my voyage. He kept mentioning his hatred of Oleon, and how exploring a mysterious island for gold would be a really good way to hurt Oleon. He agreed to get me a ship, troops and supplies. Today, was the day we launched." Treasure trove by North White, on Flickr "The Marshall and the Governor's Accountant joined us on the deck of the Suckerfish the small ship that I was given for the passage to the Island of Gold. They both looked a bit annoyed at the occasion. I overheard them talking amongst themselves. 'Is it really a good idea to send marines on a voyage to a completely unknown island?' Asked the accountant. 'I don't think it's a good idea either, but these men are completely expendable.'" Treasure trove by North White, on Flickr "Captain Mesabi handed me a map. 'Godspeed Dr. Phillips. May Poseidon grant you a safe journey.' He smiled, and the three men boarded the dingy and left. We soon set off for new lands." I Captain Mesabi, Hereby establish the Wayfarer Trading Company. Wayfarer Trade Company by North White, on Flickr I intend the WTC to be a Corrington nationalist trade company. The days of sharing the waves with Eslandola should come to an end. Corrington should come first, and it must be us who discovers the new world. Wayfarer is open to all members of Corrington, Eslandola, and the Sea Rats. Oleon members need not apply. Currently, we have 1 member. Mesabi Currently, we have 3 Ships. It was another sunny day in Arlinsport. The breeze blew gently, stirring the hair of Captain Mesabi. I am simply having you tour my fine new vessel." Said Captain Mesabi Icarus Returning by North White, on Flickr "You should do what your conscience tells you to do. It's what I do." "Is that what possessed you to decorate a ship with the bones of Oleonese peasants? Replied Marshall Booker "Bah, someone spoiled the surprise." Said Captain Mesabi Icarus Returning by North White, on Flickr The rowboat reached the figurehead of the Icarus Returning, a skeleton with wings. Th Marshall shuttered at the sight. Icarus Returning by North White, on Flickr They pulled up alongside the vessel. Icarus Returning by North White, on Flickr "Ahoy Captain!" a man in a brown cap called out to the rowboat. "Marshall! Meet Bo'sun Jacobs! he my first officer." "Pleasure, Marshall!" Bo'sun Jacobs said cheerily. The two climbed aboard the ship, while the oarsman stayed in the boat. Said Marshall Booker coldly. "The Icarus Returning does happen to be decorated with remains extracted from an Oleonese cemetery." Replied Captain Mesabi calmly. "Zeus, are you trying to start a war? You know how the Oleonese feel about relics. Personally, I don't believe any of that mumbo jumbo, but this could cause a serious diplomatic incident!" "I told him it was bad luck." Chimed in Bo'sun Jacobs "We cannot negotiate with the Oleonese. They are the enemy. I saw what they did in the Juniper War, and that's license enough to go grave robbing. And Jacobs, we've talked about this. The spirits of the dead protect this ship, not curse it." "Just show me the ship." Said Marshall booker. "Right then." Asked Marshall Booker "Seventeen. Five heavy cannons, six deck guns. four mortars, and two swivel guns." Replied Captain Mesabi proudly. Captain Mesabi and a shipwright stood in front of the meager headquarters for Mesabi's new trade corporation. A seagull landed on a chest and began crying. "It appears everything is in order. Do you have the payment?" The shipwright said. Bad Blood by North White, on Flickr "Of course. I understand the ship will be here shortly." Captain Mesabi said. He handed the Shipwright a couple of Dubloons. "Yes, of course. I'm a bit perplexed by your choice of a name. Can you explain it to me?" The Shipwright asked "Bad Blood is the kind of name that lets the enemy know that you're already ready for a fight." Captain Mesabi replied. "I know the new world is mostly full of pirates, but I'd love to get in a scuffle with an Oleon vessel." "I don't think the enemy knows the name of the ship when they attack." "Huh," said Captain Mesabi Bad Blood by North White, on Flickr In the Distance, a ship was being rowed into port. It's hull was a bright crimson Bad Blood by North White, on Flickr The ship was rowed into the dock. Captain Mesabi beamed in happiness. It was another beautiful day in Arlinsport, as Captain Mesabi walked down one of the side alleys to his favorite tavern. Hurricane season was coming. So he knew he should enjoy days like today. The Captain's Daughter by North White, on Flickr He entered the Captain's Daughter. He had never liked the name. But the environment was pleasing and the company was good. "Two please," He asked the bartender. Two red mugs were handed to him and filled to the brim with rum. "Yah betta settle up yer tab soon Mesabi. Else I'll send the gov'ners men aft' yah." The Bartender said Captain Stared hm down. The Bartender recoiled. "I have until the end of the month. You wouldn't want to lose your best patron would you?" said Captain Mesabi in a tone that could chill the bone. "Right then." The bartender glared at him as he walked away. "I must say, I'm a little curious about why you wanted to meet me. Especially after yesterday." The accountant said. "Right. Sorry about that." Captain Mesabi said. I first saw combat in the Juniper war. I won't tell you what happened then, but it was the kind of thing that changes a minifigure." Captain Mesabi said, in a dismayed tone. "Okay..." Darby looked still more unsettled. "Afterwards, I became a member of the Queen's Guard. I was a palace guard for about six years before I transferred out here." Captain Mesabi said "Look, I came here in the hope that you were going to tell me you were going to apologize, and then tell me you were giving up on your plan." Darby said, Captain Mesabi took a large gulp of rum. "I dd apologize, and if you'd let me finish.." The Captain's Daughter by North White, on Flickr Darby interrupted him. "A Joint Stock Company is not something you should be doing! You have no business experience! You have 25 Doubloons total which you already sank into a headquarters! You have 1 class C ship. What are you going to do?" Captain Mesabi answered. "I wanted to give you a job." Darby replied. "Wait What?" "I need someone to run the day to day operations, crunch numbers, dispatch ships while I work on the, well, bloodier aspects of running a JSC." "You clearly don't know what you're doing." "Alright, I don't. That's why I'm looking for people who do. You'd make a great addition to The Wayfarers Stock Company." "You're insane" "Will you at least consider it? "Fine."
