Mitgardia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

I do, watching Guild members wrap their brains around my convoluted rules is a twisted hobby of mine. If I made it too easy, where's the satisfaction in knowing you've invented something new?

    The Elven Shrine

Hello Guidlsmen of all guilds, For those of you who follow my builds, I'm happy to say that after a month of work my latest chapter to the "Rise of the Mage" is completed. Here are a few notable pictures, and of course a link to MOCPages and Flickr. Chapter 7 - The Elven Shrine I hope you enjoy it! There are some Jarl Nibelung personal stories in it!

    The Elven Shrine

Thanks guys! I appreciate your kind words! Well now that you bring that up there are similarities in the shapes, but my primary inspiration was classic elven architecture. I looked through LOTR concept art and a few video game concepts to get an idea for what the common themes were, and then applied them to bricks, with my own subtle twist. If I had to attribute it to one particular inspiration, it would have to be this one. Although it looks nothing like it, it was mostly the organic feel I emulated:

    The grand entrance

Very well done gabe! Apart from the excellent building techniques, mosaics, minifigures and crisp presentation, you've also found an excellent color scheme that is exactly what I imagined Kaliphlin would look like! Well done!

Yes indeed, those Uruk-hai are attacking our eastern outposts! Quick, mobilize the Legion! I think the LOTR sets will be an excellent source of parts weapons and minifigs for castle builders, and the Rohan riders are especially nice for Mitgardian warriors. Quick update: Keep in mind that the Valholl Micro Challenge ends this Saturday March 24th. If you're building and planning to enter please get it in before then! Prizes, Prizes Prizes!!

@ Basiliscus: Yes indeed; we are more than open to that mode of story telling. Whether you make 1 big scene or several smaller ones, we will consider it one entry. Story is a good thing to have, but build quality and originality and presentation are the meat and gravy of Challenge 3!

    The War for Skryrim

Great stuff! I added your pictures so that people can enjoy them in their full glory. Especially well done on the horse statue!

    The Feasting Hall of Benoic

Well done de Gothia! Your photography has really become incredible! There is a lot to like here; your spacing is spot-on for the people at the table. It's hard to get the right amount of crowding, but you've done a masterful job at it and it's just right! The atmosphere is festive and the color distribution is perfect! Is this a series of story MOC's leading up to your entry for challenge 3?

The tale of Erudhalion and the water horse

Wonderfully well done Gabe! Not only is the build an absolute gem, your photography and backdrop make for an incredible presentation. The horse is a sculpture of epic design, and your story is wonderful and engaging. Why is this not up for vote in the story category?

Thanks Khorne! It's been incorporated into the first post for all to see. Guildsmen, there is a week and 2 days left in the Valholl Micro Build Challenge, and it's good to hear a few of you are entering. In addition: Do any of you need inspiration for challenge 3? Have some ideas but not sure whether to build on them yet? PM me and we can discuss. (Tips will be given ) Long live Mighty Mitgardia!

Yes, right here if you could; consider it a victory presentation and I will incorporate it into the first post. It's the description of how you prime minister will be remembered in Guild History so take care to make it fancy. In unrelated news; there is a little under 2 weeks left in the Valholl Micro Challenge! Prizes are still up for grabs.

Thanks guys! I wish I had a lot of time for building; this little bit of builds took over a month unfortunately. (Don't we all sometimes wish real life can pause for a day or two and let us build?)

Well the 24 hour voting period is over, and here are the results! In first place with 40.28% of the vote: Willihard 'Mitt' Mittenlander (Khorne) Congratulations Mr. Mittenlander you are officially the first Prime Minister of Mitgardia! It was an epic campaign and those of you who ran made an amazing effort and really energized the forum over that last 24 hours! Overall 52 members cast their votes today; from a population of exactly 23063 eligible members, meaning voter turnout was about 0.225% (Perhaps the worst voting turnout in history?) Nonetheless, those who cast their votes have selected Mr. Mittenlander as the first leader of Mitagrdia's Parliament. @Mittenlander (Khorne) Please prepare a small paragraph describing who your candidate is, what he stands for and what he plans to do. If you could build a small 16X16 vignette of him at a desk/podium etc inside a castle that would be great, I'll update the front page of the Guild thread with it. (Post in this thread)Your term as Prime Minister begins today and ends on June 10th, when you can campaign for re-election if you so choose! @ everyone else who ran: You all did great, I like the propaganda and political agenda! Don't feel slighted, the next election cycle is in 3 months, so plan accordingly! Today snowy Mitgardia became the temporary home of many of Historica's citizens, and they embraced the democratic ideal that this election held. We've progressed the agenda of the people, and this is no small feat. I am proud to be Jarl of such a devoted and inspired guild!

    Mitgardian Prime Minister Election

Guildsmenn, let us lead the way in popular government in the Guilds by being the first to have a parliamentary body with a democratically elected prime Minister! I announce: The Parliamentary Election! What is it? --> A chance for any Mitgardian to create a small campaign (1 post long) and present his/her candidacy for prime Minister of Mitgardia! Who can run, and who can vote? --> Any Mitgardian Guildsman can run for the post, and all EB members are eligible to vote!! Why vote for a parliament when wee have a Jarl?[/b][/color] --> The wisest ruler recognizes that his power comes from the people he leads; thus it is a good idea to know that their voice is heard through an official governing body. When is the vote being held? --> The candidates will have a week and 2 days. (Until March 10th) to create a campaign post (described below) write a short speech, and post it in this thread. Voting will take place between March 10th and March 11th, the Guildsman with most votes wins and becomes the first Prime Minister of Mitgardia! How is the vote being held? --> Cast your votes in the poll right here! How do I enter my candidate in the running? --> Basically you post 1 single post in this thread. It must include: 1) A picture of your candidate, (could be just candidate, or a full scene, but he/she must be the dominating figure. Please don't post giant photos.) 2) Write a shot description on their history, why they are running and what changes they hope to bring. 3) Have a fun slogan, or campaign promise. (i.ee lower ale prices, no more orc riots etc) 4) Once a few candidacies are posted you may take a stab at one or more of the other candidates by spreading rumors, attacking their credential or just calling them troll-witted. (If you choose to take the high road you may ignore this section, but what fun is that? ) Let's have fun with this! Post your campaigns Below!

The Vote is now officially open Guildmsmen! Make sure you cast your ballot for the first ever Mitgardian Prime Minister! ---> HERE Question: Why is voting open to all members? Answer: We want this to feel more like an election, if only Mitgardians voted there would be a dozen or so votes, and that could be a very underwhelming race. For the purposes of the election, all members can become Mitgardian citizens for a day, just as many of us take on a couple of characters in places like the war-games forum, and our multiple Historica adventures.

Thanks Jason! Glad you like them, I always appreciate it when people read, since the story takes longer than the actual builds. The piece for the top of the staff is this: It's the hood ornament from the Space Police 3 lunar limo, turned upside-down.

Yes indeed; Mitgardia seems to be kind of parallel universe to the Midwestern US when it comes to politics. Guildsmen, we have 5 candidates for Prime Minister, I hope that if anyone else is thinking of running they announce so TODAY as it is the last day before the election. Polls open tomorrow March 11th, and will be kept open for 2 days. Voting will be open to all members, so make sure to vote even if you aren't Mitgardian! Why is this allowed? The practical answer: We want this to feel more like an election, if only Mitgardians voted there would be a dozen or so votes, and that could be a very underwhelming race. For the purposes of the election, all members can become Mitgardian citizens for a day, just as many of us take on a couple of characters in places like the war-games forum, and our multiple Historica adventures. So, dear Eurobricks Members, on March 11, 2012, put on your persona of a villager or a towns person from the North, and help us elect our first prime Minister!

Thanks guys! I didn't think the map would be such a hit, it really was an after-thought just to fill up the big table. The biggest challenge here was making the temple; it is entirely SNOT built, except for the central core, and there are LED lights throughout that really pop the window colors from within. By my count there are 5 more chapters to this story and they will get progressively more-epic and interesting. Oh, yes, Ecclesiastes' character Elon Chorian is part of the story; just though I'd mention it as it's the first time I've integrated avatars into the narrative.
