Mitgardia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

Greetings Mitgardians! I bring you exciting news! Member Titles: Congratulations to the following members for earning new titles: Siege Master: 1) Ecclesiastes: for his catapults 2) rucorder: for his catapult 3) Fat Tony: for his Dwarven Artillery Economic Titans: 1)Ecclesiastes: for his ice fishing MOC 2) Viceroy: for his walrus hunters MOC Royal Architects: 1) Ecclesiastes for his Ondylion Houses 2) kabel for his "Stoneroda" MOC Head Priest of Mitgardia: Ecclesiastes for hit temple of Gyhnran (Congratulations, as this was the only entree he has single-handedly created the major religion of Mitgardia. Check out the new "Religion" section of our guild description in the first post ) Round one judging is nearing its final stages; the top 5 Mitgardian Watchtowers have been selected by the Valholl council of elders and each of the top 5 builders will receive a special title and prize for this honor. Picking these was a challenge, as each builder here displayed a tremendous level of involvement, skill and creativity, and in the end these were agreed upon to represent Mitgardia in Round 1. May I present to you: Mitgardia Top Five: "Welcome to Mitgardia" by Busboy489 "Watchtower at the pass" by rucorder "Guarding the road to Valholl" by Ecclesiastes "Syalir Peak Watch Tower" by Dan Church "Hot Springs Tower" by Viceroy (Please note they aren't in any sort of ranked order; all 5 occupy the same niche) All titled members please include your titles in your signatures. The overall winning guild of this round will be announced within a few days. Congratulations once again and I hope there will be just as much involvement and creativity in round 2 as there was in round 1! Long Live Mighty Mitgardia! -Jarl Nibelung

    The Drake's Head Inn

Hello Guildsmen; i've continued my ongoing story on MOCpages, but as you may know I've moved the setting North into Mitgardia to accommodate both the Guild and the ongoing project. Here is my latest build The Drake's Head Inn! As always please see the full story on --> MOCPages. Or maybe you prefer to take a look on Flickr. I hope you enjoy the story! Long Live Mitgardia!

I'll help you out; yes it is Vanek, and you'll find out what exactly they're talking about in the next few chapters. Thank you, I appreciate it! No I am a pre-medical student, but story writing has always been a hobby of mine though, and i've been raised on a steady diet of classic and new fantasy books, movies and video games. You name it, there's a good chance I've at least read up on it, so to me they are the easiest stories to write and build on. If I had to pin my style on one source I'd say Terry Pratchett is definitely my hero. Thanks for your inquiry!

    Questions on creating Earth/Rocks...

Funny enough I built a golem a few months back; take a look: Here's a link to my MOCpages. I hope this helps, cheers.

    LOTR & The Hobbit 2012

And things get heated over preliminary pics again. To be honest, it's better to reserve judgement for finalized pictures, although I realize those are unavailable and can't add to the excitement of the moment. Something I've learned is that Lego knows how to make all the final sets worth it in the end. Whether it is through new parts, mini-figures or set design, all of these will end up looking quite good once the high-res pictures come out in February or earlier. I think of this theme as more akin to Star Wars than either POP or POTC, in terms of the scale of the movies, the popularity that will follow and the number of waves they will launch. That is good news for all the fans here because even if you don;t get what you want in the first wave you will surely find it in the next. I am personally looking forward to grabbing all of these, as they are all epic in their own way.

Mitgardia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

Welcome all new members! We are happy to have you and I'm sure you'll find a great home in Mitgardia! As far as the watchtower challenge is concerned, we are currently in the process of judging and adding up points. Rest assured, you will know about the outcome very soon. For those who wish to enter the embassy challenge here is something to think about; it may be a good idea to show an entirely different style of architecture that's been assimilated into a Mitgardian building with flags and decor. After all, we don't expect to find a timber longhouse in Nocturnus or Kaliphlin. I would really like to see some creative builds in this challenge; something that should not be too hard as our Guild has shown the greatest amount of diversity and creativity when it has come to MOC'ing. Merry Christmas to everyone! May you find lots of Lego underneath your Christmas tree!

    LOTR & The Hobbit 2012

If you recall the movie this is the scene where the fellowship first ventures into the mines and one of the hobbits knocks a human skeleton down a well, which then triggers the attack by the goblins and troll. There are no dwarves because the mine is abandoned at this point.

    The Drake's Head Inn

I'm pleasantly surprised you're keeping up with this story; the dwarf betrayal is something that has happened in the "30 years" after my last fantasy story ended. I'm alluding to it and will discuss it further in the builds to come! Thanks for tuning in! As for the question of whether or not this is modular; it is not. There simply isn't enough room with the technique I use to make the roofs stay in place for a detailed interior. The interiors are separate vignettes and they exist concurrently with the MOC. Yes all 4 of those builds are assembled at the same time, I would take a picture but it'll ruin the illusion of scale.

    LOTR & The Hobbit 2012

Well well, so far so good! I would say the sets hit the nail on the head as for the feel of the movies, and they even include more minifigures than I would have imagined initially! The Uruk Hai Army set in particular is quite the gem; great shields, figures and a lot of uruk hai! (6 figures + horse for a medium set is quite good!)Is it just me or are they attacking a Mitgardian outpost?? I like that the new "bricks brick" is included in light bley; this will be incredibly useful to castle MOC'ers! As for the new horse mold, I think it's mighty fine. Now we can build a lot more action-based cavalry scenes and of course the new nougat color is a treat. I can't wait to see better pictures, particularly of the Goblins in the mines of Moria set, as well as the missing set (Ork forge?) When potc came out there were 8 sets, so I can imagine we'll be seeing at least one more medium set coming up.

Entrees for the first challenge are now closed as per official guild rules. Congratulationson your hard work guildsmen! I will post more info on scoring of towers and new titles earned after we have a thorough counting/judging period over then next week or two. Overall I was very impressed and encouraged by each and every member in the Guild! Some of you thoroughly awed me and the staff with your ingenuity, creativity and building skills! We are off to a great start, and for our next building challenge I hope that all members who didn't get a chance to build this time around, do so as we'd love to see everyone participate and get prizes! As for prizes; the announcement is still pending; ISC will be the final word on that but stay tuned and soon you will know just how good of a community build this is! Welcome to our new forum; from now on please post all new entrees and Mitgardia-themed free builds here! We are making Eurobricks history folks! Long live mighty Mitgardia!

    LOTR & The Hobbit 2012

Although I understand the worry about this being a licensed theme, I must admit that so far every single licensed theme has given us something new and exciting that MOC'ers have found a use for in castle building. Imagine for a moment that PoP had never come out; that is to date the best source of Middle Eastern themed minifig torsos, accessories, animals, colors etc. Whether or not Classic castle will continue to receive sets or disappear, people will always build castle MOC's. In a way this theme is a blessing; it will give us new fantasy elements; something we haven't seen since 2009 in castle (not counting collectible minifigures). I don't think they'll reuse the elf hairpiece (just a guess) Because the LOTR elves don't have ears that are that pronounced and cartoonish. I hope they just leave a cutaway notch in the hairpiece with no skin parts so that it goes great with both flesh and yellow heads. I am very excited about the evil factions and unique parts that this theme will bring; I say let's rejoice and milk it for what it's worth rather than get hung up on the license issue.

    The Hanging Tower

Wonderful creation! This may be the most original idea I've seen in the contest so far! The design itself is really great, and the architectural detailing on the top parts of the tower has a very good fantasy feeling to it. I too am curious what kind of counterweight you used to keep this beauty from falling over.

Just under a day left now, and the first challenge comes to a close. I'm truly impressed by how many wonderful MOC's we got for this round in Mitgardia! Our land is one of the best defended in all of Historica, which should leave our enemies trembling and our allies seeking support. Valholl grows stronger and more-prosperous with incoming traders and our armies are the best in all of Historica! They are one part Northern Courage, one part Northern Ingenuity! @Haltiamieli: Wonderful to see the Great Elks partake in the outpost challenge! I really like the snow and frozen river, and the tower has a very unique charm to it as well! ! Long live Mitgardia!

Greetings Guildsmen, As we enter the last few days before the deadline of our challenges is reached I encourage you all to finalize and post if you have not already done so! @Thor: Welcome to the Guild! You certainly have brought quite an amazing group with you, and they are all welcome to the Norther Frontier! Great figures and story-telling, I am happy we have yet another strong builder in our midst! (Your Spellbound Man-Machine is a personal favorite of mine! ) @Ecclesiastes: Good religious build! I have decided that we the Norsemen will have multiple idols and Gods, so Gyhnran is one, and his religious symbol is great. Your entree into the economic challenge is excellent; a beautifully textured, photographed and balanced scene of domestic tranquility! Well done As for the temple challenge we can let other people add their own. (Both pagan/druid gods, and parallels with Norse Gods are encouraged!) This is the challenge with the least number of entrees, let's get creating people! @ Tomcat RIO: Good ideas, I knew we would find a way to get more green sleeves! I would add a bit more detail for the final product though, you don't just want a barren base-plate. @Dan Church: Beautiful and creative watchtower! I especially like the details around the door, the corners and the terrain! Guildsmen, there will be plenty of reasons to get excited and build when we announce what we have planned for 2012, stay tuned, and don't forget to check the first post in the thread as I'll be updating it frequently with news, challenge info, Titles etc. Long live Mighty Mitgardia!

Beautiful buildings all! @kabel: that is a very nice scene, I especially like the brickwork throughout! @Cwertle: Welcome to the Guild! Looking forward to seeing your MOC's! @Ecclesiastes: Once again I am in awe of your timely and well-made MOC! The temple is a beauty and a testament to Norse Culture! (I would modify the crosses though, we aren't sticking to real-world religions, and so we need to invent our own version of Northern Mythological gods ) A grand effort, and something I was hoping to see sooner or later! (Glad that it's sooner ) So the challenge here is to invent a symbol to represent the Mitgadian Temples. Let's all try to build a few and the best one becomes official. (Must be made of small, simple and readily available parts and Northern in style) @Viceroy: Wonderful work on the guide once again, it's just the sort of thing Mitgardia needed!

Ah there it is: It turned out great! Lots to love here and the offset on the tower is really good for that especially "evil look".

@ Fat Tony: Wow that's mind-blowing! Not only does it indeed look "dwarven" it's functionality and scale simply renders this one of the best siege engines i have ever seen made of bricks. I'll have a few dozen to Guard the Royal Palace of Valholl. Well done sir!!

The size limit is specified as 32X32 max, so i am afraid we can't make exceptions. If you must build smaller that is OK, but larger is something we decided to disallow. Great ideas so far, let's get a few others in, would anyone be interested in building a temple for our Guild? I'm thinking something out of Norse Mythology; giant wooden halls and gods that look like Thor and Odin (We'll change the names of course) . As a matter of fact I am adding this as a mini challenge: Mini Challenge 4: Design an original temple and story that are official for the entire guild. Include a symbol that will be recognized in all of Historica as the Mitgardian religious sign. (get creative here) The temple doesn't have to be big, it can be a shrine, or an interior. Include the official dress of the priests and priestesses and if your design is good we will make it official for the Guild and may make somebody "Head priest of the (fill in the blank with name of religion) of Mitgardia. This is also due the Dec. 15th deadline, and will be the last mini challenge added before that time. (Note: please have fun with this and take it as part of the mythology of the world, we aren't trying to get overly involved in religious debate. Thanks in advance! ) I am looking forward to more great entrees, so far i am more than happy with the quality and quantity of builds coming in!

    Mitgardian Catapult Battery

That's what I like to see; it looks like your creations have shaken the nerve of 2/3 foreign guild leaders, well done Hersir Chorian! I like that you build everything in bulk; that's exactly the kind of spirit that makes Mitgardia Great! Once again, you make your Guild proud, and we are keeping track.

Great entrees so far Guildsmen! It looks like the other Guilds are building up quite heavily, so I strongly encourage that all Mitgardians partake in the mini building challenges; the more buildings the better! The siege weapons look great guys! Now, this is where I ask you the members for input; what do you think we should build next? (Next meaning after the Dec. 15 challenges) Please feel free to throw around ideas; the major challenges are determined by Guild Leaders, but the themed free builds are entirely in the hands of the Guildsmen.Let's get some good suggestions and I'll put a poll up so that we can vote on the next glorious stage of out guild's development. @ Busboy: Well I expected you to build a phenomenal tower and you did not disappoint! Well done sir that build is a beauty! Such an original layout, color choices, techniques, the river below, I could go all day! Guildsmen we are slowly but surely outputting some of the best MOC's on the site! Well done, and I can't wait until I see all the rest of our fellow Mitgardians post their efforts! I will give out titles after the Dec. 15th deadline just so that all who want to build for the mini challenges have the time they need to complete their works without worrying about others beating them to it. Long Live Mighty Mitgardia!
