I just took a tour of BrinkLink and bought most of the villains and spider-persons that aren't in this set. What i learned is that prices are not as predictable as one might think. Kraven is ridiculously overpriced in the US for example, but not so bad in Europe. I'd stake my money on Punisher and DareDevil being the most expensive at 25-30$ apiece while the set is available. Those prices will go up though. You never know when future sets might bring a figs price down. Scorpion is less than Kraven because he was available in 2 sets. You can bet Punisher will remain exclusive though.

Whoa, I had no idea how much Kraven's prices from US sellers have gone up!  I didn't have much issue getting one for $12.99 just last month, so I'm glad I didn't wait any longer on that.  The Bugle's release must have really increased the demand.

Hopefully Kraven comes back with a better face this time. While the rest of the 2016 Kraven minifigure is perfection, that head is not even close. He'd look more accurate if you gave him any Tony Stark head than that Jurassic World head (which ironically enough was first used for the character played by Vincent D'Onofrio, so Kraven was technically Kingpin).

Yeah, Kraven's head left a lot to be desired.  I ended up replacing it with the Thorin Oakenshield head.

Well, the bugles sold out, and the secondary market has gone insane already.

Hopefully this encourages LEGO to make more Marvel sets of comparable style and quality.  I would think that the Bugle selling out this quickly should be enough indication that the demand is there.

Is it true that the designer of the Bugle wanted to put one of the Fantastic Four in there?

That would have been awesome if they had been able to do it...

I'm assuming they had to hold off on the Fantastic Four until they show up in the MCU (which will probably be around 2023-2024).  After that happens, hopefully we'll get a D2C Baxter Building to display next to the Bugle.

I'm trying to make some purist customs as well - Electra, morbius, and moon knight for now. You should definitely share as you go, I'd be interested to see alternative versions for characters!

I just added a few parts lists to the Purist Superhero Figures thread if you're interested in seeing them, though expect more to be added over time:

Perhaps the body/head from the Hydro-Man attack set combined with Nya's water pieces from the summer sets (both the swirling leg piece and the back attachment pieces). Would not be comic accurate, but would be a neat designed Hydro-Man.

Do be aware that some figures will probably wind up in sets in future.

Those water pieces should be useful.  The Juniors Mr. Freeze torso having a striking resemblence to Hydro-Man's costume was the main thing that lead to me trying to design a custom for him.

I'll be very pleased if we get some of these villains in sets.  I'll be much more likely to buy them if they have something different from the same handful of villains that we've been getting again and again with few additions.

  4. Here are some parts lists for various Spider-Man villains:

    Lizard:

    Headgear: Lizard Man

    Head: Orca

    Extra Attachment: Lizard Man tail

Torso: 2015 Dr. Wu (White Lab Coat)

    Hands: Bright Green

    Legs: Professor Frink

Bonus: Use Bruce Banner head and hairpiece 62810 to turn into Dr. Connors

    Morbius

    Hair: 88283 (Black)

    Head: Lord Vampyre

    Collar: Zurg

Torso: 2019 Voldemort (Rise of Voldemort)

Hips: Stone Army Warrior, Red Face

    Legs: Black

    Hydro-Man

    Hair: 98385 (Reddish Brown)

    Head: Mirkwood Elf

    Torso: Juniors Mr. Freeze

    Arms: Dark Bluish Gray

    Hands: Blue

    Hips: Dark Bluish Gray

    Legs: Blue

    Molten Man

    Hair: Zane Echo

    Head: Lloyd (Golden Ninja)

    Torso: Atlantis Temple Statue

    More to be added...

  5. I'm still amazed that we're getting a set like the Daily Bugle.  I had spent the last couple years thinking that random vehicles and mechs would make up the entirety of the comic Spider-Man line's future.  I can only hope that the Bugle sells well enough for LEGO to make more sets like it.

It's too bad that Marvel has never been able to be involved in LEGO movies the way DC could.  I've always wondered what a LEGO Spider-Man movie with the same level of detail and care put into it as The LEGO Batman Movie could be like.  At the very least, we could have gotten a far better variety of villains by now, considering TLBM had like 40 DC villains featured.

Because the Bugle didn't do much to fix the shortage of new villains, I've been in the process of trying to acquire parts to make them myself.  I have purist custom plans for comic Hydro-Man, Hammerhead, Chameleon, Lizard, Mr. Negative, Morbius, Jack O Lantern, Tinkerer, the Enforcers, and several others.  That should even the odds against all the new heroes we're getting.

  6. Here's Mark Stafford's response on how far in advance sets are being planned out:

"We're finishing up some/a lot of 2022 at the moment. With our team some of it happens quite late as we have to wait for movies and TV shows to get to the point they can share some concept art. LEGO City and other projects who aren't partnered with outside licenses are probably finishing up 2022 completely and starting to experiment with ideas for 2023 already. But due to COVID-19 I'm not sure!

For the Superheroes team our 2023 planning consists of seeing what movies have been announced and holding our breath for cool concepts to start arriving and thinking about (and sketch building) things like the Bugle or Infinity Saga sets that we can complement them with."

Robbie Robertson: His face is getting changed from old Lando to young Nick Fury/Cyborg's since he's never had a mustache. The torso is going too since he's always worn a vest with a tie (why is he wearing a sweater in an office anyways?). Only problem is that I haven't been able to find the right torso for that yet.

    Would Ernie Prang's torso work?

    Absolutely, essay incoming:

Carnage: Swapping for the much superior version we got in 2015, it fits more with the rest of the 616 inspired set while the Carnage we've been getting for the past few years is the Ultimate design.

Gwen Stacy: I'm still not really sure if I want to change her since it's not supposed to be the classic Gwen.

Peter Parker: I'm thinking of switching his head for something else as I'm sick of the MCU Peter Parker/Scott Lang face, especially since this is supposed to be a comics set and not an MCU set.

Punisher: Considering changing Frank's face to something a little more serious. His alternate face where he has the scowl was going to be my permanent face for him, but the bandage sort of ruins it.

Green Goblin and Doc Ock: Debating whether or not I should switch both to the classic versions that came in the 2016 sets, so I might have to buy the 2016 Tentacle Trap set (plus it would give me classic Vulture). The ones we got are really good, they're great modernizations from the recent comics or based on the PS4 game, but I feel like the really classic designs would work a little better instead.

Sandman: The clone trooper head has got to go, but I haven't thought of any alternate options yet. And at this rate, I don't think we're ever going to get a version where his torso is just the green striped shirt that isn't in half sand form and a regular arm to go with it.

Jameson: His widow's peak is switching to the flat top hairpiece that the 2004 version had. Although if I do that, the TV screen stickers with his face on it will look inaccurate thanks to the hair.

Ben Urich: Changing the face with the Justin Hammer minifigure, as he's also always been clean shaven in the main 616 Earth. His torso will change too since he's always worn a trench coat, and right now Ross's torso from the Friends Central Perk set is the perfect replacement.

Everyone else is either perfect as they are or figures I just don't care for, like Amber Grant or Bernie the Cab Driver.

Very comprehensive!  You raise a lot of good points.  I'll probably end up switching out the villains you mentioned, as I do already own the previous versions of them.

Fair enough. But then why would Lego say they didn’t include her because she has an MCU depiction when Mysterio could have the same said about him?

It does seem like LEGO is trying to maintain some consistently between movie and comic/game face prints when possible.  MCU and comics Peter Parker share the same face print, (so do MCU and comics Vulture for that matter).  A lot of the Square Enix Avengers shared face prints with their MCU counterparts.  Presumably, the sets for No Way Home will feature MJ (and possibly Ned, whose comic counterpart was also not included in the Bugle despite being a prominent Bugle reporter).  I can also guess that May, Jameson and Betty being present in the Bugle probably means their MCU counterparts probably won't be featured in the No Way Home sets.

  10. It will definitely be interesting to see how the comic Spider-Man sets next year turn out.  With the Into the Spider-Verse sequel coming out, I hope LEGO finally gets around to making a Peni Parker with the SP//dr mech (especially with how much LEGO seems to like making mech sets).  I also hope that LEGO makes full use of the new bigfig design.  If Kingpin specifically has to be in a Daredevil-themed set, it could take a while to get him, but Rhino shouldn't be too difficult for LEGO to make.  They could probably get away with using the hollow stud on top of the new bigfig head to attach a horn if they don't want to make a new bigfig helmet mold for him.  I'm sure LEGO will want to include another Venom in a set, so a bigfig version would be a nice change of pace.  The new bigfig design has those back studs that would be perfect for attaching symbiote tentacles.

I assume we could get a MCU Electro minifigure late this year or early next year.  Maybe we could have a comic Electro by 2023 assuming a pattern similar to the release of Mysterio's minifigures.

There could also be an apartment style building with Alias Investigations and Nelson & Murdock law firm on the ground floor.

Now that could be an interesting set that would be a great way to get a bunch of Defenders related characters. I could see an ideal lineup for that set consisting of:

Heroes: Spider-Man, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing

Villains: Kingpin, Bullseye, The Spot, Stilt-Man, Elektra, 2 Hand Ninjas (As much as I would like to see someone like Purple Man or Typhoid Mary get a minifigure, I'm not sure that LEGO would go that route, even for a 18+ set)

Civilians: Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, Malcolm Powder

I'd be very quick to buy a set with that kind of lineup.

How do you guys are going to present it? Just the Bugle alone, or in a city lay-out? Next to other modulars (which look pretty good i must say)? And how are you going to integrate the bridge battle in it?

I don't have any other proper modulars, but I'll probably display the Sanctum Santorum Showdown next to it.  I'll have to see if I can find a good way to fit the Bridge Battle in there as well.

Taking into account the fact that the Bugle has 25 minifigures, split between 8 heroes, 7 villains, and 10 civilians, what kind of numbers and ratios would you like to see in a potential Oscorp Tower or Fisk Tower D2C?  Personally, I don't think they need to have as many minifigures if so many of them are either going to be repeats or only use preexisting prints.  It works well enough for the Bugle, but I could see a second D2C lowering the minifigure total down to somewhere between 14-18, perhaps with a less elaborate build to put a set at a somewhat lower pricepoint, considering Oscorp Tower and Fisk Tower aren't as iconic as the Bugle.

Could we be getting scarlet spider? Especially as he’s on the screen on the Bugle?

If he's not included in this set, I wonder if he'll be in the next wave of regular sets or perhaps a second Spider-Man D2C.  I also hope that Curt Connors and Miles Warren being on the screen leads to Lizard and Jackal figures showing up later.  It would be a shame if this was the most representation those characters got from LEGO.

  14. I'm assuming that Miles would be the Mech version if he's included.  If so, I would be glad I didn't buy that set yet.  Same with Spider-Ham and the Venomosaurus set.  I still predict a civilian Miles will also be included.  In that scenario, I hope the remaining unknown civilians are all Bugle workers.  We'll need as many as possible to populate the build's interior.

  15. I do think the minifigure selection seems very solid.  25 minifigures in a $300 Marvel D2C?  I wouldn't have guessed that.  All these previously unmade heroes?  A pleasant surprise!  My only complaint is that this set doesn't really fix the issue this line has with constantly reusing the same villains.  The only new villain here is Black Cat, a character who only sometimes counts as a villain.  I can only hope that the comic sets next year start including a better variety of villains, otherwise they're going to look extra underwhelming after how much effort was put into the hero and civilian lineup for this set.  I'd like to believe that the Bugle will mark the beginning of better comic Spider-Man sets.  With the revamped bigfig design used by Thanos, there's essentially no reason now why they can't use that for Rhino, Kingpin, or even Venom (the new bigfig mold even has studs on the back that would be perfect for attaching symbiote tendrils)  Considering the Modular-style attachment points on the Bugle, maybe we can get another D2C like Oscorp Tower, that could focus more on new villains.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but I love what they've done with Doc Ock's arms.

I definitely appreciate that they tried something different and unique with the arms, especially considering the figure itself is a repeat.  Personally, I still think the arms from the Mech Battle set are still the best version overall.

When was Robbie Robertson deconfirmed? With Lego's recent attempt to represent more characters of colour I'd be expecting more not less POC characters to be in this.

That's what I've been trying to figure out.  I've looked through the past 10+ pages of this thread, and have looked all around Instagram, but I cannot find any leaker stating anything about Robbie Robertson not being in the set.  I'm starting to think that all this talk about Robbie being deconfirmed is just the result of some confusion.  At least I hope so.  We'll know for sure soon enough.

  18. Assuming Miles is included in the set, which variant do you think is more likely to get: his standard costume variant from the 2019 Bike Rescue set or the hooded jacket variant from the mech set earlier this year?  Either way, I also suspect that a civilian Miles could also be one of the unknown civilian figures.  It would line up with Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy being included alongside Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen.

So I don't know if it's just me, but right underneath Doc Ock, there appears to be what looks like a couple wheels (from a car), could that be a spider buggy driving on the window like from the comic?

Huh, it does look like it.  That would be a great easter egg if so, and a Spider-Man vehicle I wouldn't complain about getting for once.
