  1. obviously you haven't heard the rumor of them appearing in the clone wars series. so there is still a good chance.

Indeed, I gazed at my screen for quite a while because of that trailer!

I loved the game and I hope Delta Squad will remain the same in the show. I'm hoping for minifigures from LEGO and action figures from Hasbro from these commandos! :classic:

That being said, how about more figures and sets from The Force Unleashed (1,2 or later on 3)? I'd like to see some figures of special troops like the Saber Guard, Shadow Guard or Sith Acolyte. (Or even the Terror Droid/Troop. They could use the old Grievous head in metallic silver for that.) And since Starkiller has many outfits, I'd like to see the best of them aswell. (The experimental Jedi armour gets my vote  )

EDIT: Please LEGO (or Lucasfilms or Hasbro) keep Delta squad with blank heads. Their helmets are their real faces, not some generic clone head with funky hairdo.

  2. ATTENTION! SPOILERS AHOY! :vader:

Well I ordered the game a few days before release date on Discovery Channel's game shop. (You'll get it on release date... I got it 5 days later :P) I paid a bit under full price since they had an offer with a free T-shirt. :classic: (Which they forgot to send. After a mail, I got word they're sending it to me. :hmpf: )

As for the game itself, I quite enjoyed it. I haven't played the first game so I can't compare, but I liked the gameplay for this one, the moves certainly look great. Sadly though, there isn't much variation into it for example you're facing the carbonite droid, you have to damage it until you can do the special move scene, but this move is always the same, only the buttons you have to press seem to vary.

The graphics look great and the cutscenes look excellent (Yoda, Boba Fett and Vader mostly.) They really managed to give the characters expression, and the voice acting is great aswell. (For example, Boba Fett's voice works out rather well and when he says 'they won't be coming back' he shakes his head. Excellent acting.) On a side note though, although Vader's voice acting is usually great, sometimes I feel it's just not his voice completely. (Not in the cutscenes but when you're fighting him for example.)

Most of the complaints seem to regard the short span of the game. And it's true, in some aspects the game is short for example the first level on Kamino, it's about 1.5 * the length of the demo version. On the other hand, some played it on normal to come to that conclusion. You'll have to play the game atleast at hard to really enjoy it and get a challenge out of it. (Because unlike the movies, storm troopers DO have a good aim. ) I'm playing it on unleashed now for the second time, and it goes better now than when I played it on hard.

This brings me to another point: boss battles. Fighting bosses for the first time brings A LOT of frustration. Especially the Bolrog battle, you don't have a clue what you exactly have to do or how to defend yourself. (In previous LucasArts games, blocking with your lightsaber reflected EVERY blaster shot. Now you can only reflect blasters when you press the button right before they hit you... An appearantly lightsabers block Gorog breath?) Lightsaber throw and lightning will be your best (and more or less only) weapons when fighting bosses or even big enemies like AT-MPs, AT-STs, Carbonite droids, etc.

About the storyline... I don't get the point. Supposing he IS Starkillers' clone, why would Vader clone him? The most powerful Force user ever known turned against the Dark Side in the first game and almost killed Vader and Palpatine... So they clone him again? Not only that, but appearantly the clones have memories from Starkiller making them even more dangerous to the Empire... Perhaps Vader could have spend all the money and resources on finding the rebel leaders and hire Boba Fett to KILL Juno and the other rebel leaders?

Anyway, the main plot is about... him (wether he's a clone or not) going after his girlfriend. Vader takes his girlfriend as a hostage. He goes back for his girlfriend. Oh and yes, the entire rebel fleet happens to be around for the occassion and is able to attack a major Imperial planet head on. The rebels win, Vader is captured and he gets his girl back. (And honestly, Juno looks quite different from TFU1, not her clothes but her face etc.) And Boba Fett goes after them when they leave Kamino.

How do you keep Vader imprisoned I wonder? Considering he broke through his restraints when he first got his armour, how can a metal structure hold back his power? Lord Vader is great in the game though. At the end of the duel, he gets thrown into a lightning mast for several seconds for several times. He doesn't stop after such a torment, no he redirects all the electricity he received and sends it back Starkiller('s clone). Now that is badass.

I loved a few new enemies like the Terror Troops/droids (very reminiscent of General Grievous), the Sith acolyte and the Saber Guards. (You feel sorry for them when you put your sabers in their chest, they utter some sort of tormented moan.) But there's something I don't get: the idea of battledroids was abandoned after the Clone Wars (cf. the 501st clone from Star Wars Battlefront 2) but somehow, half of the Imperial army seems to rely on droids. I can accept the idea of the terror droids (as Darktroopers were developed later on) and the carbonite/fire droids. But the terror walker (updated crab droid?), terror droid walkers (gorilla like body with a giant General Grievous head on top of it  ) and all those annoying terror spider droids (a lot of variation in the names too it seems.). It feels like I'm playing the space levels from Episode III the game again.

Despite all of this, I did enjoy the game since there a few things that make it great:

-Customisable lightsabers. In pretty much every colour and usually with an effect. (health, force, etc.) Sadly, you're restricted to using both lightsabers.

-costumes: gives the game a completely new experience. Nothing like PROXY warning you for Boba Fett when you're wearing his armour.

-databank: THE best thing about the game. It gives a completely different insight on the characters, vehicles, etc. Scout troopers don't like regular stormies. lieutenant Piett is trying to get away from Lord Vader despite of his promotion. Darth Vader doesn't like to be called 'Darth'.

Anyway, I recommend the game, but don't get it at full price unless you get a got deal or so. As for the special edition, I think those levels will be put on PSstore later on (or already are), the yellow lightsabers and stormtrooper costume can be earned ingame so I don't think it's worth paying that much more for it. But if you can find it at the price of the regular version, go for it.

That being said, I'm MOCing some characters from the game that'll be posted soon. Oh and one more thing, the Imperial Baron with Russian/Romanian accent is the best new character and has great voice acting.

  3. Glad to see someone working on this period of history. :classic:

The hussar looks great, did these dismount when going into battle? (Or else I suppose they suffered the same fate as Polish lancers charging German Panzers...) The cannon still needs some work but I'll follow it progress. :classic:

Do you have any idea what you'll be using for the campaign helmet?

  4. I might change it to black for the flagpole. Interestingly though alot of the flagpoles were painted blue by the French, particularly during the empire of Napoleon.

Indeed, blue flagpoles are historically accurate:

    28mm_rev_french_infantry.jpg?w=480&h=337

But of course, there were all kinds of differences in uniforms since supplies weren't large enough, so a brown pole might work aswell. (Black would mean that it was painted and therefore would destroy the 'improvised' look.)

Back to the MOC. A very nice recreation. The plumes on the bicorns are very nice and I particularly like the striped trousers, they give it that revolutionary France feel. On note though, if you'd choose to keep the flagpole blue, perhaps you could add a gold-coloured spearpoint on top of it? (I suggest a 1*1 cone)

Did the 112 Demi-Brigade change into the 112th regiment of the Line? It's quite confusing how the transmation went.

  5. I finally got to lay my hand on these Greek hoplites, and the quality is somewhat lacking:

-The tip of and sometimes the complete spear are sometimes bent.

-The metallic gold on the helmet doesn't seem to be that thick, and sometimes the layer is so thin it almost looks like tan.

-The hands seem to be a bit tighter than minifigures from sets?

-The leg printing is quite poorly done. The print only reaches to a certain part of the legs, causing yellow 'flesh' to be seen when moving the legs. Both the tunic (well, its Greek variant) and the sandals are printed on the front and the sides. The problem is that the front and side prints don't touch. There's this thin yellow line running around the corners of the legs...

Well other than that this is a great figure. I'll review him aswell alongside his series 2 comrades later this month.

  6. The samurai and the mummy soung great! I agree that it lacks the 'wow' factor from the previous series.

I always considered these to be LEGO's counterpart to Playmobil's 'Specials', beside the fact that these minifigures are supposed to be random. As with Playmobil, there are several exciting and suprising figures but also a lot of the 'meh' type. On the other hand, the 'remake' of some of the figures might be good for people who didn't get any of the first two series and now get the chance to get something similar as these will be released in greater numbers than the previous series. It seems that LEGO has put out a lot of effort in creating new parts for the first two series and they are trying to regain the usage of those parts in these new figures.

Thanks for the info Klaus-Dieter! :classic:

  7. Great draws! I really like the muskeeter, great idea and very well done!

Seeing your draws, I try myself and come with this:

    ...

I know that the nude minifig will never be in production, but why not after all? It is natural, a minifig in birth clothes!

Perhaps if the minifig has a 'leaf of clam' design and thus representing Adam or Eva, they could be produced? (I'd be interested in knowing how they'd sell  )

I like your drawings, especially the stereotypical Frenchman and the Louis XIV and Marie-Antionette style minifigures. :classic:

I hope LEGO is watching this thread and I'm anxious to see what the third series will contain.

  8. I would say yes and no to horsehair combs being used on Corinthian helmets, for the primary reason that almost all excavated Corinthian helmet found does not give any indication that there was a horsehair comb, though there are some that are found but they're quite rare. Excavated Chalcidian helmets however usually always have protrusions where a comb could be attached, or raised portions that the hair could be inserted through. Other times there's a metal crest/comb built into the helmet as well.

Chalcidian is essentially the same as a Corinthian, however the face is more open. The Attic helmet is a sub-type of the Chalcidian, but it lacks a nasal guard.

Indeed, when looking at pictures of original Corinthian helmets, none seem to include any structure for a comb. On the other hand though, contemporary art shows that Corinthian helmets did have crests. A famous example is the small statue of a Spartan soldier in cloak with long braided hair. The crest on this statue does have the crest turned around 90°, resembling a centurio.

So one could use these to represent the crestless Corinthian helmets? 48493.jpg

Anyway, no luck so far in getting this figure.

  9. Looks more like a Chalcidian helmet to me, than a Corinthian for two reasons. 1) The horsehair comb 2) the openings for ears to give better hearing. It was used during the 4th and 5th Centuries BC, and was popular throughout Greece.

Thanks for the info :classic: I wanted to correct me calling it a Corinthian helmet yesterday when I saw this picture on KimT's Brickshelf gallery:

    greek_hoplite.jpg

@KimT: this is a representation of a Spartan hoplite as both the red cape and the 'lambda' on the shield suggest.

    ----

This design does appear what to be what LEGO had in mind. It seems to be somewhere in between the Corinthian and Attic helmet. But to reply to your post, horsehair combs were used on corinthian helmets aswell?

    Gaetano

  10. Well, he can be more or less any Greek (or even Roman) hoplite but since the cape is red and the face represent a certain 'this is ...' face I do believe that the designers had a Spartan in mind. (According to the legends, Spartans wore red capes so that the enemy wouldn't see them bleeding.)

Anyway, back to the review. It is a great figure and I haven't found any so far. I'm surprised the torso is the nougat coulor, I thought it was dark tan from the pictures. That would mean that the armour is made of bronze instead of leather. (Hoplites used both bronze breastplates as linnen armours but these had a different design.)

I think the shields offers a lot of possibilities to add something to add for example a 2*2 dish inverted. I'm surprised that the handle is like that of a long Medieval shield since the predecessor, the round dark grey shield, had a handle just like the small Medieval shield.

The helmet is perfect, although one detail is too much. I suppose this represents the Corynthian type of helmet but since it was designed to protect all of the head, it didn't include holes for the ears. This was troublesome for the hearing though, and other, lighter types of helmets were made with holes for the ears. (Like the Attic helmets)

I'm surprised the spear's so soft. I do like it's design but I'm wondering weither the colours are a good choice for a hoplite. (brown handle with gold tip would be more suitable)

The legs are good though. They made sandals and pulled it all the way through around the sides. The legs have some defaults but since I won't be using them I don't mind :classic:

Finally, the face disappoints me a bit. Without the helmet he looks a bit like a pirate...

Anyway, great figure, hoping to get as many as possible.

  11. Here to help!

    spartan_shield_dish_back.jpgspartan_shield_dish_front.jpg

And, bonus, the shield fits nicely inside the dish:

    spartan_shield_dish_inside.jpg

Now I'm wondering what kind of plans you have for the shield :look:

Thanks for the picture! After seeing this, I might not use the shield for my Spartans since it's smaller than the 3*3 dish. The hoplon (Greek shield) is supposed to cover a lot to form a good phalanx. I'll find another use for them though.

  12. That WAS awesome. I was really impressed with the moving of the bases at the end of the video while there's a lot going on at that moment. I really liked the howitzers, the way they placed their supports to open fire was quite impressive and nicely animated.
