  1. Hey all - I attended NYTF, and the Universal Preview event from Friday

Universal confirmed that we have yet to see everything Jurassic from LEGO, and that we should keep our eyes on the horizon both near and far.

I won't lie - I wasn't super impressed by the sets. There is nothing wrong with them, they're just not that unique nor do they feel as varied from the 2015 sets as I'd like.

Anyhow, we uploaded another gallery to Facebook here, featuring some detail shots of Lockwood Estate I have yet to see:

Do you know if the JW sets are being shown at the London Toy Fair that's currently going on?

Mattel wanted to show off their JW lineup sooner, but Universal said not publicly til Feb. Toy Fair -- I imagine the same applies to LEGO, sadly.

No offense, but why on Earth would Lego ever do that? It's essentially an identical mold scaled down, and Lego doesn't give two Hoots about accurate scale, they just want to give you dinosaurs that can bite minifigs. Literally all those ideas would work just as well with the indominus mold and a new head rather than investing in an entirely new body, legs, and tail.

By that argument, why not make the Raptors the same size as the Tyrannosaurus? A little variety never hurts, and only adds to the play factor - I was just trying to illustrate how a mid size mold could go a long way and not be a one hit wonder.

Plus, it offers more price flexibility.

Well, now I don't have to draw my own crude mock-up of a lego medium sized theropod line. Yeah, it's pretty hard to argue that this isn't a little lazy and not terribly forwards thinking on Lego's part.

Hey, since you seem to have seen the prelims, does the Indoraptor re-use any existing moulds, or is it all new pieces?

From what I saw, I believe it used the Indominus arms but was all new otherwise - it's a new large tier sculpt.

I wouldn't take that guys word for 100% how the mold will look: this is a guy who complained that the figure was too brown instead of "rust"  and that the trailer was iconic!

To be fair, that article is mainly tailored to Jurassic fans, and not those who follow LEGO - so for websites like this, some of the descriptions may fall flat. However, when it comes to the Carno, what color would you call it?

  5. Ugh, LEGO really should have made more molds for this theme. DINO got... at least 20 new molds, and presumably didn't sell as well as a line that could justify that (BIONICLE, City, NINJAGO, etc), yet the only new molds for this line I can think of off of the top of my head is the Dilophosaurus head, Indominous Rex and the Gyro Sphere. Most of the sets are really cool, but I'm going to be super annoyed if the movie version of the Dilo is smaller than what it is in the sets.

Edit: At least 25 new molds for DINO. Approximately 12 for Jurassic World. 24 of DINO's 25 are for dinosaurs, one is for the tranq. gun that has been used in other lines. Jurassic World has 8 for the I. Rex alone, one for the Dilophosaurus, one for the raptor cams, and the remaining two on the Gyrospeheres, and one of those two pieces I'm not entirely sure were introduced for the Gyrospheres. That's pretty bad for a line geared towards a blockbuster movie franchise in comparison to an in-house line that had very little attention and didn't last very long.

Yeah, I won't lie.. the sets look nice, but rather phoned in. I expected a little more.

At least they aren't super low quality like the Hasbro offerings, which overall are awful.

  6. Yeah it looks really bad if you compare it to the game Gallimimus.

I have to say, I'm confused that this smaller mold was used for the Gallimimus rather than the Dilophosaurus. I mean the Dilophosaurus (movie version) is way smaller than the raptor mold it uses is, and I think it would have worked better to use the smaller scale.

Really, they should have just swapped the body types of the two Dinos to get a more accurate scale. Although it may have been done this way to improve the desire for the Dilophosaurus set--if it included a tiny dinosaur it would be hard to justify the price. Plus they could not make this polybag with a raptor sized dino included.

While the Dilophosaurus was originally intended to be that small, some speculated it could have been a juvenile. It seems they went that route, and the Dilo's in JW will be a larger animal.

That, or they will be just as small, but the larger dino was better for the set.

  7. I am really upset there are no herbivore sets, nor structures based upon locations in the film. I really would have liked at least one semi film accurate building set.

I hope the JW theme is successful so we get more in the future.

    Thanks again to Hoth Bricks!

This is apparently the pre-order item for those buying the Jurassic World Video Game from Gamestop. Although it's not John Hammond, it's still a nice polybag--even though the "Gallimimus" really doesn't look like a Gallimimus; at least from movie standards. I especially like how the site notes that the "Gallimimus doesn't have a single tooth in it's entire mouth." Do your homework Lego!

That is NOT a Gallimimus, pure laziness on their part by calling one. Hell, they didn't even try to give it an appropriate paint app. They should have just called it a Compsognathus and ran with that.

I would expect a mistake like this from other toy companies, but not lego. Weird.

  8. Lord of the Ring was initially sucessful; and Monster Fighters was wildly successful. But it's always a challenge to try and understand Lego's ideas!

I guess they are different! Didn't look up a picture, but they seemed similar in memory--regardless I think a game version would have been better. Having recently rewatched the first Jurassic Park, and having watched the darkened T-Rex attack those kids in that hurricane storm...ah memories...is it too much to ask Lego to make that scene accurate with a brown T-Rex?!

I strongly dislike how orange the actual Lego T-Rex is. The game got it right IMO!

  9. We probably won't be getting much else from London Toy Fair but on January 28 there is another Toy Fair in Germany (Forgot which city) that does allow pictures to be taken so chances are we will be seeing the JW sets then I think. (Plus pictures of the Bionicle summer wave  )

Exciting times! I just can't believe Lego themselves hasn't really acknowledged the Jurassic World license via any standard outlets such as their own website.

  10. I'm not sure it's been "confirmed", but the pictures do show the claw marks in the same areas where the original T-Rex was jumped on by the raptors, in the first film.

Cool theory, I think, but I'm pretty sure they mention in the second film that Isla Nublar was napalmed or something (or the facilities were "disposed of")... I hope they don't just handwave that...

The MasraniGlobal.com (official viral website) confirms this isn't the case. The island was abandoned until 2002, when Masrani Global started rounding up Dinosaurs, cleaning, and building.
