  1. If you're going to orchestrate a whole adventure, with missions, a city component and the like, then perhaps it'd make more sense to grab the mission-focused sets first and then have the HQ tie everything together. From a numbers standpoint, you could go for the more expensive set first so you're more receptive to the cheaper one when you're ready. Maybe one of those points might help.

Incidentally, 3 out of 6 sets (including HQ) are sold out on the website right now. Should that be taken as a good indication of the theme's popularity?

  2. I've seen it said by someone here (I believe) that they'd recommend Hurricane Heist over Mission HQ, so there's that.

The HQ set would offer more play value purely in terms of content, but one thing to consider too is which set will complement well with those you already have, as that'll make for added play possibilities. If it's a matter of getting one later on, maybe the robot build in the HQ set could tide you over in the meantime?

Hopefully that'll get you thinking (not in circles).

  3. I wouldn't be surprised that it was just saved for the next round so Lego ideas could avoid choosing one of the other new reviewed sets.

If for a second we presume that to be the case, could it be infered -- by the fact that nothing has been reserved for a future judgment -- that they're confident something from the next batch will make it through?

  4. Well, that's a bummer. I'm glad they found a way to continue with the Female Minifigure Set, and that we don't have to wait long for it. But it's a shame nothing else made it through.

Wasn't surprised about Zelda (is anyone?), but I was rooting for the Adventure Time project. Maybe one day LEGO will do their own theme of it, because the opportunity is too good to pass up. Would've been nice to have some explanation on why these projects didn't pass, but that's nothing new.

  5. Yeah, saw that earlier! Hoping that's the case. It'll be the cheapest set in the Ideas line, which may work in its favour. Don't know where this information originates from, but if it's true, then this "leak" should mean that the results will be posted imminently. Hopefully this week.

  6. Well done on this review. Your approach of highlighting the individual components made the overall design look more appealing. I'll actually monitor this set now in the hopes that I'll see it on sale someday, whereas before I wasn't really interested in this sub-theme. By the way, love the scene with the dogs driving over the base. :P

  7. Thanks for the review. Based on some of your points, it'd be more reasonable for the police set to be the same price. I think if this set got the same treatment as the castle set, it would've made for better value (cost and play). As is, I wonder how this will fare on the market against its closest counterpart, the LEGO City Starter Set.

Were you able to find the Turtles Lair after all?

  8. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Nice to learn about the back details with the thrusters and the window. And the colour choices really make for an appealing model, don't they?

Are you planning on picking up (and reviewing?) any other GotG sets? I'm curious about the Knowhere Escape Mission set.

  9. Yeah, the Pet Shop would be ideal for a two-person project. Hopefully someone else has some input beyond modulars. Thanks, though, and I'm glad to hear the Fairground Mixer is a worthwhile purchase. I'm looking forward to getting it next month.

  10. Interesting to see how these Speedor sets measure compared to my original reception of them.

The Scorching Blades set seems decent, but it's overly linear and the "difficulty" presented by the gimmick is merely a facade.

As for the Flaming Claws, it's too bad the claws aren't interactive, where an opponent could try and snatch the Speedor while in mid-air. But that'd be much too ambitious.

And the Inferno Pit could be one of the better ones, only because of the string attached to the boulder.

The others perform as I expected, although the Fire vs. Ice set is particularly lacking.

  11. Nice job and congrats on finding the set, just2good. Glad you're enjoying it. And thanks for the pics, as usual. The ship looks good from the back view.

Just the price is atrocious, $50 USD usually means $60 CAD up here :cry_sad:

Ugh, I know. Crazy. Definitely have to wait for a sale on this one... Looks like I won't be buying it from the LEGO store.

Also, just as a side note, I read a note on Reddit that the GotG sets won't be sold at the LEGO store until June 1st, so for those who've been on the hunt for early set releases, TRU may be your only option.

edit: Just saw the Wolverine pics. The back printing is a nice touch!

  12. You may be on the right track with your Legion of Doom idea. Wonder if TLG can pull something like that off and push for a storyline that's just as mysterious as it is cohesive. It might account for why some have felt that the sets lack unity in colour and design, almost like mercenaries working towards a common goal (save for the alliances already mentioned with the likes of Toxikita).
